Jack Stephens was an alcoholic and he abused Abby because she has and always will be the easy target for him. No matter what has happened to her, she wants to have that love from her dad. Abby did counseling to know that it wasn't her fault, and if you or someone you know has lived a life like this, remember you are not alone. Help is available.
I know growing up with alcoholics in my family and striving to have the understanding why things are the way they are, taking the blame for everything and trying to fix things that were out of my control. I never sought help and I hope with this book that if you have been in Abby’s place or even mine, talk to someone.
If you are a child of an alcoholic, please seek help through al anon as they can be of help and know that you’re not alone.
