  CHAPTER ONE

  Brooke

“Are you sure you want to do this?” Reese asked over the phone. I could hear the uncertainty in her voice. She thought I was making a huge mistake, and maybe I was. Gary and I had only been dating for a little over two months. Was he the most interesting person I had ever met? Not at all. But the sex was fantastic, so that had to count for something. Besides, I had the feeling that I had been way too picky over the years, that I had made snap judgements about the men I dated, and pushed away some great guys.

Take Ian, for example. Ian was tall and charming. He had blonde hair and blue eyes that made my crotch burst into flames. But his name bothered me. Ian. It always felt like I was squeaking out his name, and I started calling him ‘guy’ just so that I didn’t have to say ‘Ian’. And, of course, there were variations that went along with it. Sweet guy, big guy, tall guy, blonde guy…the list went on and on. And when he asked me why I never called him by his name, and I told him, well, I guess the look on his face said it all. He thought I was being ridiculous and asked me to never call him again.

Then there was Burt. He had a mustache, just like Burt Reynolds. And every time he kissed me, it felt like I was kissing an old man. Or a pedophile. The mustache was creepy to say the least and it made me feel gross. Then we had sex, and when he went down on me, I couldn’t even look. It looked like a rat was down there attacking my vagina. And he didn’t take it too well when I told him so. He also told me to never call him again.

Those are just a couple of examples of the men that I have discarded over the years for the most ridiculous reasons. And now I was on Gary. His name reminded me of a janitor, and also a pedophile. But he had a great body, and like I said, he was great at fucking. So, when he asked me to move in, I thought about it and decided that this could be a step in the right direction for me. I could have great sex whenever I wanted and finally make a commitment to a man, even if I was pretty sure that I wouldn’t be marrying him. I could use him as a test subject, get a feel for how to behave when living with a man. This was going to be good.

“Yes, I’m sure I want to do this.”

  “Okay,” she sighed.

“I don’t get what the big deal is. So we’re going to live together. It’s not a lifelong commitment.”

“That’s the point. Shouldn’t you want to look to the future for your potential husband?”

I snorted. “Gary is not that, but we could have something good. Trust me, this is a good step for me.”

  “Alright.”

“Listen, I have to go. I’m pulling up to his house now.”

  “Your house,” she corrected.

“Right, my house,” I grinned. “I just have this last load in my car and then I’m officially moved in.”

“Well, you’ll have to invite me over when you’re all settled.”

“I will. Talk to you later.”

I hung up and smiled, stepping out to grab a bag of clothes that I had forgotten and my trusty baseball bat. I had gotten it when I visited the Field of Dreams with Reese years ago. We both kept them in our rooms, though I supposed it wasn’t really necessary if I was going to be living with someone else. He could sleep on the side of the bed closest to the door. That would give me enough time to get away if anyone ever broke in.

I didn’t have a key to the house yet. Gary told me he would make one for me today, and it was perfect timing because I had to be at work in just under an hour, and Gary had a business dinner tonight. He said he didn’t know how long it would take because the clients were real pains in the ass. I had hoped he would be here so I could drop all this stuff off, so when I pulled into his driveway and saw his car, it was like the Gods were looking down on me and smiling. This really was my lucky day.

I pushed the door open and called out for him, but he didn’t answer. Toeing off my shoes, I headed upstairs, thinking he might be showering for his dinner, but he wasn’t there either. I headed for the back of the house, toward the kitchen and paused when I heard voices on the other side of the door.

“Tell me what you want.” Gary asked.

“You know what I want,” another man said. Shit, I hoped that they hadn’t moved the meeting here. I didn’t want to interrupt him during a meeting, but I needed that key.

“You’re going to have to tell me exactly what you want. I’m not into playing games.”

“Then what exactly are we doing here?” the other man asked.

There was a cracking sound and something fell to the ground. I stumbled back, wondering what the hell was going on in there. The sound of dishes breaking filled the air around me. Shit, I was in the middle of a murder scene. I ran to the front hall and grabbed my bat, running back to the kitchen to save my man. I shoved the door open, screaming like a banshee, ready to take out the man before me. But Gary already had him subdued. Like, really subdued.

I stopped in my tracks, bat above my head and shock on my face. What. The. Fuck. I looked to Gary, who had a panicked look on his face, and then I looked to the other man. The man that didn’t have a shirt on, but instead wore straps around his chest that wrapped around his back. His hands were latched behind his back in another set of leather straps, and he had a ball gag in his mouth. Gary was holding him down, but quickly backed up, pulling his hands away like he had been burned.

“Babe, this is not what it looks like.”

“Okay,” I blinked, trying to figure out what else this could be besides him dominating another man in his kitchen.

  “This is my client.”

The man jerked his chin in acknowledgement to me and mumbled something to Gary. Gary pulled on a strap and the ball gag fell away.

  “Hey, I’m Keaton.”

“Nice to meet you,” I said in shock. I tilted my head toward Gary, still trying to figure out something, anything to say to make sense of all this. “You…like BDSM. I never knew that.”

He chuckled nervously, pulling up the zipper on his pants. My eyes narrowed in and it finally hit me, like really hit me. My boyfriend, whom I was moving in with, was about to fuck another guy in his kitchen.

  “What the fuck?” I shouted.

“Babe,” he said placatingly. “I swear, I love you-”

I burst out laughing. What a way to find out for the first time that the man you’re seeing is in love with you.

“I swear, this is…it’s something that I thought you might understand.”

“Understand? Why would I understand you fucking another man in our kitchen? How long has this been going on?”

“With Keaton? Just a few days. He’s my client.”

  “Your client?”

“He’s new in town. I wanted to show him around.”

  “Show him around?”

“I was going to show him to this club I know, but then this sort of happened.”

“Sort of happened?” I shrieked. Everything I repeated came out louder and more disbelieving. “Do you even like women?”

He cringed, and that was my answer.

“So, what? I was going to be your beard? You wanted to look like the guy that had everything? We’ve been fucking! Did you even like it?”

  “Babe, I swear-”

“Don’t you dare fucking babe me!”

“I wanted to tell you, but being gay isn’t something that’s looked upon at the firm as being okay. I thought if I got you to fall for me, that this wouldn’t be that big of a deal.”

I stared at him, and then I unleashed my inner-bitch. “You fucking bastard!”

I ran at him, swinging my bat as hard as I could at his head. He ducked just in time and I ended up knocking down some pots that were hanging from a rack overhead. They clattered to the island, just barely missing Keaton, who was still trussed up like a pig.

“How could you do this?” I ran around the island and swung again, this time connecting with his ribs. “You fucking asshole!” I swung again, but he stepped out of the way and my bat connected with the other man’s ass. He groaned and I watched in horror as his dick grew.

“Do it again,” he moaned. I did it again, but this time I aimed for his ribs. There was no way I was giving this man even one ounce of pleasure. This time he screamed.

“What the fuck, Brooke? You’re insane!”

“I’m insane? You’re fucking a man in our kitchen two days after I’ve moved my shit in!”

“Fuck, just put the bat down!”

“I don’t think so,” I said with a deadly calm that even scared me. I stalked toward him slowly and laughed when he picked up a tray that was sitting on the island. He held it up to shield himself, but I had a better idea. I ran past him, yelling like a mad woman, and swung my bat, taking out his most expensive liquor that was sitting out.

“Brooke, you have to fucking stop! You’re breaking my shit!”

“Oh, I’m not done yet,” I said, pushing the kitchen door open and heading for the living room. He had all kinds of expensive artwork and dishes sitting out. That should have been my first clue that he was gay. I swung at everything I could see, breaking everything including his chandelier in the entryway.

  “Brooke, just fucking stop!”

I turned to him with an evil grin and slipped my shoes back on before I stormed out of the house.

“Wait!” he shouted as I headed for his two hundred thousand dollar car. My first hit was to his window, which didn’t break, but did crack. I slammed it again and again until Gary came up behind me and tried to grab me. I rammed my elbow back into his face, satisfied when I heard a crack.

  “You crazy bitch!”

I moved on to the hood of his car, denting it everywhere I could. Then I removed his side mirrors with just a little too much glee and moved on to his taillights.

“I called the cops, you fucking lunatic! You’re going to jail!”

At that, I gave one final blow to the side of the car and scrambled into my own, peeling out of his driveway and taking off down the road. My heart was hammering in my chest and a crazy laughter rose in my throat. It felt so awesome and completely amazing to give back what the bastard dished out. But now I had a problem. Gary obviously knew my car and I knew for fact that he had my license plate, because he had to register my car to his pretentious gated community.

With no idea where to go or who to call, I just kept driving. I couldn’t call Reese and drag her into my mess, nor would I drag her family into it. My family couldn’t give two shits about me, so I wasn’t calling them. I just had to find a way to make it out of town and as far away from all this shit as possible. Maybe Reese could wire me the money later.

Seeing a hulking man just finishing up pumping gas, I pulled into the gas station and threw the car in park. I grabbed my bat and ran for his truck, slipping into the passenger side while he was waiting on his receipt. He was a big guy, but most big guys were gym rats and couldn’t actually fight back. That’s wh
at I was counting on.

  CHAPTER TWO

  Rocco

I caught movement out of the corner of my eye and discreetly pulled my weapon, keeping it out of sight from anyone else. Glancing over my shoulder into my truck, I saw a figure sitting in there, as if he fucking belonged. Ever so casually, I opened the door and slid in, pointing my weapon directly at- Holy fucking shit. He was a she. I faltered, not able to speak as I stared at the woman before me. Talk about a knock out. She had long, dark brown hair that hung in waves around her shoulder. Waves, yeah, that’s right, fucking waves. And I was noticing. Normally, I couldn’t give two shits what a woman’s hair looked like, let alone her face. As long as she had a nice body and was willing, that was all I really required.

But this woman, damn. She was a man-eater, that was for sure. I could see the way she was glaring at me, as if I had done something to offend her in my own fucking truck. Those deep blue eyes seemed to impale my chest, making it difficult to breathe, let alone think. And she had this cute button nose that was slightly upturned. I wanted to reach out and push on it, just to see her wrinkle her nose at me.

Jesus Fucking Christ, what the fuck are you talking about? Button nose and eyes impaling my chest? Get it together, dickhead. She is the enemy. She snuck into your truck and now she’s holding a fucking bat on you. Something you now just realized because you were too busy being fucking mesmerized by her!

I cleared my throat and tightened my grip on my gun that seemed to go lax in my hands over the last few seconds. “You want to tell my why you’re sitting in my fucking truck with a bat?”
