Alpha's Promise: A Reverse Harem Omegaverse Story (The Clarity Series Book 2) Page 7

by Ivana B. Kinkee

“Jeden, come take our Omega. Now.”

In a rush of footsteps, Jeden grabbed her, pulling her into his arms as Mordek released his hold. He backed up with her, unable to hear what Mordek was saying as he crouched in front of Niken, one large hand on the male’s chest.

“Shh, it’s okay,” Jeden whispered against her ear, a low purr rumbling in his chest, and she sank into it. Letting his bond hum sweetly against the rougher part that was Mordek.

A second later, Mordek stood with Niken braced against his side, looking much more capable of carrying the male than the boy had. But as the smaller one stood she realized he wasn’t a boy, just a slender male. Closer to her height, maybe an inch or two taller. He’d only looked like a teenager when compared with the massive Alphas surrounding her.

The trio left out the metal door, and she swallowed as it slammed shut. Finally able to breathe easier, but it wasn’t helping. Everything was wrong, so fucking wrong. There was no energy to fight after what Mordek had done, so Karissa just turned into Jeden’s chest, and sobbed. Chest aching around the bitter rumble behind her ribs.

“It’s okay. Karissa, shh…” Jeden held her closer, shushing with his lips pressed to her temple as she felt the other Alphas closing in.

“Put her back in the nest, that will help,” Donvin said, gruff voice tinged with concern, and Jeden reacted immediately. Carrying her back to the bedding, he shoved the twisted cum-stained fabric around in the center of it, flipping sheets and clothing around until there was a new dry space for her. Once she was laid in it, he curled behind her, still shushing. Stroking her arm, purring louder than she’d ever heard him.

Halyrion joined them next, laying on his side in front of her to add to Jeden’s purr. Tinves grabbed the space by her head, trailing his blue fingers through her hair, and then a hiccup escaped as she sobbed harder.

“Fuck,” Jeden cursed under his breath, pulling her against his chest so that she had no choice but to feel the deep rumble as it vibrated through her. Even though the sedating effect was slowing her tears, it was doing nothing for the crumbling feeling inside.

“Talk to us,” Tinves urged, trailing his fingers back and forth in her hair.

A shuddered breath almost became a sob before Halyrion purred louder, the male stroking her hip without any sexual edge to the soothing gesture. Opening her eyes, she looked at him, and his lips tilted at the corner.

“Little Omega…” Halyrion leaned close as Jeden nuzzled against the back of her neck. “I admit that wasn’t smart, but you just proved you’re dangerous when riled. That means you’re perfect for us.”

The strain on the bond in her chest still felt ragged, even as the distance between her and Mordek stretched. Another broken sound leaving her lips as she flinched at the memory of him roaring at her, the mind-numbing crush of his will over hers.

Jeden purred, sensing what she couldn’t put into words. “Mordek couldn’t lead this pack if he were weak, Karissa. He has a temper, but it will cool. Don’t worry, he will not return until he is calm.”

“Are you hungry?” Tinves asked, and Donvin huffed.

“I brought her food.” Sitting next to Halyrion’s legs, Donvin used the massive male’s hip to set the plate down.

“I’m only allowing this because she needs to eat and I like smelling her,” Halyrion growled, glaring at Donvin who was completely unfazed.

“I have juice.” Zeke sat beside Tinves, cracking the seal on the cap before offering the bottle filled with pink liquid.

Shaking her head, she tried to hide her face in the blankets, but Jeden nudged his arm under her so she couldn’t. “Come on, you need to eat.”

“After a command like that, she needs sugar,” Donvin muttered, lifting a sweetcake that smelled incredible.

Cocooned in purrs, she eventually let them feed her. Coaxed into a semi-sitting position, watching as they took turns, and she sipped the juice with her head propped on Tinves’ leg. Slowly, the raw feeling in her chest abated, confusion and fledgling anger filling the gaps as she tried to unravel exactly what the fuck had happened.

None of it made sense. At least, not outside of this strange world, but she had watched the Alphas respond to Mordek before. Obeying without question. But she had never done it.

Turning from the next bite offered by Donvin, she finally spoke. “Did I…” Her voice croaked and she had to clear her throat, sitting up to tuck her knees to her chest, hiding in the huge shirt. “Did I kneel when Mordek shouted, when he commanded it… because I’m Omega?”

Zeke laughed low. “You knelt because he told you to, and anything with half a brain, and a heart they’d like to keep beating, would obey Mordek when he’s that angry.”

“He’s right. You’re just lucky you threw this piece of shit on before you walked over there.” Halyrion plucked at the shirt still covering her. “Even if it reeks of Donvin. There’s no telling what he would have done if you’d walked towards a Beta completely naked.”

“Beta?” she asked as Donvin snarled at Halyrion before standing with the almost empty plate.

“Niken is a Beta in our pack.” Jeden’s answer buzzed against her waist where he pressed a kiss through the fabric.

“There’s more to your pack?” Brow creasing, she counted the males and turned to look around them. “Wait, where’s Parel?”

Donvin turned towards the table, tilting his chin. “There. He needs space, Omega.”

She could see him sitting in a chair, facing the wall with his back to them. Tempted to ask why, the thought was cut short by Tinves answering. “We have four Betas, and Alishair.”

“Where are they sleeping?” she asked, and Jeden tugged her gently back to the bedding.

“In their rooms. We all moved in here the night we brought you home.” Jeden turned her face towards his, tracing her lips with a finger. “They were ordered not to enter. Honestly, if Niken had been able to stand on his own, or if anyone other than Alishair had helped him in here…”

“Mordek would have ripped them in half the long way,” Halyrion finished with a vicious grin. “And I would have helped.”

“That’s enough. She needs water. Drink.” Donvin held out a glass and she had to wriggle out of Jeden’s touch to sit up again and take it.

A few swallows in and she stopped, stomach lurching even though it tasted wonderful and quenched a suddenly desperate thirst. “I… I really need to call my mom, and Tawny. I’m sure they’re looking for me.”

Her pack looked at each other, everywhere but her for a moment, and then Jeden nudged the glass back towards her lips. “Finish the water, we’ll discuss it when Mordek returns.”

  “But—”

“Now.” Jeden used that edge to his voice, the one that felt like power as it rolled through her, a subtle vibration in her chest that had her drinking before she’d completed the next thought.

She choked on the water, coughing, spilling a mouthful onto the shirt as her eyes watered and she turned towards him, a growl crackling in her chest. “Is this how it’s going to be?”

  “You need to drink—”

“When is any of this going to be MY choice?” she snarled, shaking off hands as she stood on the bedding, the thing Donvin had called a nest. From the center she could see why, the combination of sheets and blankets and clothes were swept in looping patterns, creating a hollow in the center where she had lain. The males wove their bodies around the edges, caging her in. The realization made the growl rougher in her chest. “I didn't choose this,” she hissed, meeting their gazes one by one and daring them to argue.

“None of us chose this.” Jeden's purr stuttered before evening out again, louder, as if he could call her to heel again. “It is what we are, what you are... there is no changing it.”

“And this?” She slapped her hand between her breasts, overlaying the weird hum in her chest. “You made this sound wonderful. Warm… soft…” Snarling she snapped her teeth at him before growling through a clenched jaw. “
You lied.”

“No.” There was panic in his eyes, and when he reached for her she stepped back, almost tripping over Zeke who was tucked behind her.

“MOVE!” she roared, and Zeke obeyed fast, scrambling out of her path. Stomping off their nest, she whirled when she heard them standing. “I swear by the gods Jeden, if you try to fucking stop me right now…”

He dropped back to his knees on the bedding, simply staring at her — like they all were — and she hated it. Hated the urge to climb back into that pile of male skin and rumbling purrs and let it all fade away, let them erase all the pain and sadness and anger.

Tearing her gaze from them she scanned the room, finally coherent enough for once to actually fucking look at the massive space. Incredibly high ceilings with metal support beams, only two doors, both at the far end of the room.

  She’d never make it.

Snarling at the next male who twitched on the bedding, Tinves, she ignored the thump of guilt inside and growled at the pack. “If any of you want to speak to me, you better have a fucking phone in your hand so I can call my mother and my best friend to let them know I’m alive.”

With the attention of five stunned Alphas, she turned and walked to the bathroom. It was the only enclosed space available to her, and she slammed the door, sitting down against it on the cold tile.

Realizing she still held the plastic cup in her hand, she walked to the sink and filled it before returning to her guard position at the door. Not that it fucking mattered. Any one of them could probably rip the gods-damned thing off the hinges.

Insane. All of this is insane.

Karissa cradled the rage close to her chest, wrapped herself around it, warmed herself with it to keep the low-thrum of sadness at bay. She would not relent. She wouldn’t crawl back out to them to ask for a purr, or for their incredibly warm bodies to sleep beside her.

This was a line in the fucking sand, and even Mordek was going to have to decide which side of it he stood on.

As she drank the water, trying to slake her rampant thirst, her mind spun with too many thoughts. Pair bonds and Betas. Mordek’s rage. Her friends, her family, the others in this place she had yet to meet… and the pack that had followed her scent directly to Niken. Stomach twisting, she remembered the state of him and felt a flare of guilt.

What had they done to him just because they wanted to find her?

And what did that mean for her?
