  “You defy Fox?”

“You know that is not possible,” replied the Marshal.

"It was Fox's testimony that convicted them?" asked Deputy Hargrath.

"Yes, and I believe it was Fox that ordered the Raider attack on them."

"They should have been given the opportunity to defend themselves."

"It is not a requirement for the defendants to be present."

Hargrath held the Book of the Gunslinger in his hand. "Fox isn't the same boy we once knew. Jon Black would not approve."

"Jon Black is the one that fired at them during the Raven incident," said the Marshal.

  "They're innocent?"

  "Yes."

  "But why?"

"That I do not know,” said the Marshal."

"Fox wants him dead, and Jon Black has abandoned him,” said Deputy Hargrath. “I think that young man has been counted out too soon."

The Marshal turned back towards the camp. "I am certain of that, now we wait and see what Colton Cyness does next."

“How long do you think the island will hold him?” asked Deputy Hargrath.

“Hell Prison wasn’t able to hold him,” said the Marshal. “I doubt the island will hold him long either, in fact, I’m counting on it.”

Deputy Hargrath watched the transport ship disappear into the clouds and shook his head. "When he discovers he’s been betrayed, I fear what we will have created.”
