Probably the Best Kiss in the World Page 32

by Pernille Hughes

My beta readers; Elizabeth Dunn, Gillian Evans and Charlotte Knappe for your constructive and supportive feedback. You rock, ladies!

  Author Rosamund Lupton- Lydia paraphrases a writer in her anti-engagement rant. The correct lines are;

“Sex and laughter. The heart and lungs of a relationship.” From Sister by Rosamund Lupton (Piatkus)

“… words are the spoken oxygen between us; the air a marriage breathes.” From Afterwards by Rosamund Lupton (Piatkus)

These lines are what I write as wedding card messages, because I totally believe them and also because it’s fun to write the word Sex in a wedding card when in-laws might read them. Yes, I know, I should grow up…

Stefan Ribeiro Maagaard Jensen for your Inco pad knowledge (For the record, Stefan’s knowledge was professional, not personal. Just thought he’d want me to make that clear.)

Helen Moss-Black for medicalness. Any nonsense in that area is purely down to me not listening properly, as she is a Professional.

Nick Watson at Malt the Brewery, Prestwood, for answering the questions I threw at him while on the brewery tour (Every last Saturday of the month, folks!). Any mistakes are again mine, for not having asked the right questions. And to Jenny Watson for continuously filling our glasses.

All the women who have lost a leg (or more), particularly Sarah Dransfield whose appearance on First Dates was the spark for the character of Lydia, Leah Washington, Vicky Balch, Mama Cax, Kat Hawkins and Melina Nakos whose blogs, articles and social media I followed in my attempt make Lydia half the absolute queens they all are.

My Olds, Lisa & Bjørn Knappe, for stepping in when needed.

Anne-Dorthea Knappe, my niece, for checking my Danish spelling. Tak Dottie.

Ailsa Kent for name-gaming with me. Thank you, Jim.

Izzy Macmillan for WhatsApp games of Pin-the-comma-on-the-donkey.

The BookCamp lovelies of October ’18, who saw me through the edit; Rosie Blake, Holly Martin, Cathy Bramley, Jo Quinn, Sarah Bennett, Cressida McLaughlin, Rachael Lucas, Isabelle Broom, Katy Colins, Hannah Richell and Basia Martin. Thanks for all the laughs, advice and sanity! And welcome to all the new babies!

All the good folks at The Bestseller Experiment and Savvy Authors who are a glorious fountain of support and publishing knowledge for a beginner like me.

My Pilates coven for the constant cheerleading and shameless promotion of my books to every single new person who joins the class. Thank you Sarah, Mel, Georgy and Gill.

Beth Lee Booth for Fridays and Fizz. Nuff said.

Clan Hughes, my very patient kids who put up with my distraction and my ever-patient and supportive better half Ian, who amongst many other things generously escorted me to breweries in the name of Research. Thank you my lovely Loves (Yeah… still just kisses for you to collect.)

And YOU my lovely lovely reader. There’s no point me doing this if it wasn’t for you. Thank you for picking Probably up. I’m so pleased you did. I really hope you enjoyed Jen’s story. Now, it would really reeeeeally help me if you might leave me a review on Amazon. It doesn’t have to be long, or 5 Stars (although those are my favourites, sorry, (not sorry)) and it’s OK if you didn’t buy this book. If you borrowed it from the library or were given it as a gift, you can still leave a review. And I would be very very grateful for it. Amazon gives us more attention the more reviews we have and then your fellow readers can find out about my books too. Big kisses to you if you do. Xx

If you’d like to see pictures of the things I’ve mentioned in Copenhagen, pop over to my Facebook page where I should have a little album of them (assuming I can get the tech to work), www.facebook.com/pernillehughesauthor or my pinterest boards which you’ll find at www.pinterest.com/pernillehughes . You can also follow future pics on my Insta page www.instagram.com/pernillehughes , and I tweet all sorts of things on Twitter @pernillehughes. I also have a website now, and you are welcome anytime at www.pernillehughes.com. If you’d like news popped straight to your inbox with news, may I invite you to sign up for the newsletter there and if it’s news of deals then sign up to my Bookbub profile at www.bookbub.com/profile/pernille-hughes. Phew! I am all over the place now and becoming quite the media slut!

PS. If anyone is interested in crocheted tampons, I’ll direct you to Etsy.com, which can offer you a range. I wasn’t making it up!

Probably the Best Kiss in the World

Pernille Hughes has had many words printed in the Sunday Times, most proudly the word “boobs”. Seduced by the promise of freebies she took her first job in advertising, but left when Status Quo tickets was as good as it got. After a brief spell marketing Natural History films, she switched to working in Children’s television which for a time meant living in actual Teletubbyland, sharing a photocopier with Laa-Laa. Now, she lives in actual Buckinghamshire, sharing a photocopier with her husband and their four spawn. While the kids are at school she scoffs cake and writes in order to maintain a shred of sanity.
