  The rest of my sentence was cut off by a roar from Keale. The umpire had bounced the football. The sermon had begun.

  I grinned and settled back to eat my pizza. I didn’t need to hear from my father or half brother. I didn’t need their thanks or their acknowledgement.

  With friends like these, I was richer than either of them ever would be.
