Acknowledgments
My sincere thanks go to my literary agent Stephanie Cabot, along with Will Roberts, Rebecca Gardner, Anna Worrall, and Ellen Goodson at The Gernert Company in New York; to my wonderful editor Jennifer Barth, David Watson, and Katherine Beitner at HarperCollins in New York; to my London agent Araminta Whitley, assisted by Sophie Hughes, and the dream Orion team of Kate Mills, Susan Lamb, and Juliet Ewers.
Louise Cummins, garden designer at the award-winning Garden Makers in London and Surrey, generously gave me the inside track on design and landscaping projects for a private client and the Chelsea Flower Show.
Peter Coxon, curator of Tangmere military aircraft museum, and the magnificent group of enthusiasts there could not have been more helpful. I would also like to thank Philippa Stannard and Authors for Autistica for the introduction to her mother Nancy Bateman, and the use of her name along with some of her RAF memories.
My own mother, Joy Lawrenson, was, as ever, my valued first reader, along with Robert Rees.
