Rebecca knocked on the door, but there was no answer. She looked into the sidelight, cupping her hands over her eyes to see better. She wore a silky blue dress with nothing underneath. Dr. Sacks had commented on the dress one day at the office. It was the day they’d first made love. Right there in the office, she’d let him take her. They’d seen the last patient and sent the receptionist home and she’d given herself to him willingly. A burst of yellow foam had bubbled over from his mouth. The poison had worked as Leah planned. But Rebecca didn’t care. She didn’t even shrug. She just turned around and got back in her car and drove home, smelling the stench of evil and power in the air.
