  Alpha Mate

Jase Farley and Cole Adams, millionaire ranchers near Heat Springs, Texas, are shape-shifters, brought together by recognition of their shifter identities and roles as protectors and guides since ancient times. Their pack has pledged to guard those who come to Heat Springs on the run from trouble. This pledge, to help those in need or danger, comes with the reality of endangering the well-being of their very souls. Each must face his own demons, anger, and guilt from past failures, which beat at him, before he will feel worthy to ask for the forever love of his mate.

Emily Blake has never risked a serious relationship after being in numerous foster homes following the attack on her mother by her abusive father. But she won't refuse the protection of Jase and Cole when her father arrives at her workplace in Heat Springs. Yet, she may lose her heart to both Jase and Cole when they gain her trust and win her love forever.

  Chapter One

Emily glanced at the table across the steakhouse dining room where a young woman her age sat waiting for her order along with two successful-looking young men. Emily turned, scooped up the three dinner plates filled with the Ben’s Steak House special of the evening and headed for the table. Her three customers carried on an animated conversation, the young woman laughing, her whole face seemingly filled with happiness. Emily wished she had the ability to be so relaxed and happy in the company of virile men her age. She’d graduated from college last spring still a virgin. Would she ever meet a man she could feel comfortable with and trust?

The young woman looked up at Emily and smiled at her. “I feel like I’ve met you somewhere before. Did you go to Southwestern State College?”

“Yes, I did,” Emily answered, smiling at the young woman. “I graduated last spring,” Emily added as she put their plates down in front of each of them.

“So did I,” the friendly girl responded. “Maybe we had a lecture together.”

Emily remembered how large her American History class had been. There’d been over a hundred students in that auditorium.

“I’m Lacy Blue and this is Trey Farley and Derek Adams.”

Emily smiled back as the two guys nodded to her. “Good to meet you. I’m Emily Blake.”

“Hey, Emily,” the guy named Trey said, and gave her a big smile.

The one named Derek smiled and nodded at her in a friendly way.

Emily needed to get back to work. The two successful-looking young ranchers she’d served a couple of times before had just taken seats at the empty table in her serving area. They nodded to her as she crossed to them. Before she reached their table near the arched doorway to the wide hall between the front and back doors of the steakhouse, they waved to the customers she’d just met. She glanced over her shoulder and smiled at Lacy and her friends.

“Watch out for those two guys,” the dark-haired one said.

“Why?” she asked, smiling at him.

“Can’t be trusted with women.” He shook his head.

“How do you know that?” she asked

  “They’re our brothers.”

Emily raised her eyebrows in surprise. She hadn’t noticed a resemblance. “You’re all brothers?”

“God, no,” the sandy-haired one exclaimed under his breath.

“Jase Farley, ma’am,” the tall dark-haired rancher offered. “Trey is my little brother.”

“Cole Adams,” the other guy said. “The dark-haired one, Derek, is my brother.”

Emily couldn’t help smiling. “I’m Emily Blake. Glad to know you.”

They both nodded. “Same here,” Jase said, and Cole touched the brim of his hat.

“What can I get for you tonight?” She looked first at Jase and then at Cole. If she wasn’t so leery of men, she’d like to know more about these two. All four of the guys were well dressed and obviously very successful. But Jase and Cole both intrigued her. She wasn’t sure why, but maybe because they were a few years older than the others.

She took their orders and told them she’d be back with their drinks shortly.

As the evening progressed and she continued waiting on them, she couldn’t help but be impressed by their friendly, respectful manners.

After they finished their meals and left the steakhouse, the evening seemed to drag by. Lacy and her friends had left earlier before Jase and Cole. They’d all teased each other about being good as they’d left.

When Jase and Cole had left, they’d tipped their hats to her as they’d headed for the door. As usual they’d left her an unusually large amount of money under the sugar dispenser. Their younger brothers and Lacy had done the same.

Emily pocketed the generous tips. Hell, she wished again she could feel as at ease with men as Lacy obviously did.

Emily headed for the meals for customers at her other tables.

  * * * *

“Am I alone in this? Don’t you think like I do that Emily looks delicious?” Jase glanced at Cole who sat in the other seat of his black Bugatti, its engine humming to life as Jase turned the key in the ignition. He gave the accelerator a push with his booted foot.

“Hell, yeah. She looks good enough to eat. She’s a cool one though. Are you thinking about a threesome with her?”

“I am.” Jase watched the paved road ahead as he turned onto the highway and headed toward Mike’s spa for a soothing soak in the warm spring water that the town of Heat Springs was named for. Attuned to the Bugatti, he enjoyed the feel of the texture of the highway surface though his thighs, hands, and the soles of his boots.

The sun had dropped below the top of the red-rock promontory west of town on the other side of Mike’s spa. There would be barely enough light to make out other people in the warm lake. That was good. He planned to soak away the stress of the long day of work at the ranch. The arousal he’d controlled at the sweet scent and warm nearness of Emily threatened to rise again as he thought about her and pictured her in his mind. Hell, if a beautiful woman approached him at the lake, he would welcome a fucking hot release, if she offered. He turned off the highway and drove down the long road to the spa’s parking area.

Beside him, Cole released his seat belt. “Man, I’m looking forward to a good soak and a pretty woman to fuck tonight.”

“My thoughts exactly.” Jase had ached with a hard-on since he’d first seen Emily this evening.

“Race ya,” Cole dared him as he sprinted toward the lake. They ran for the warm water’s edge, shedding their clothes along the way until they were naked in the water.

Cole led their splashing run through the shallows and dove first into the deeper water. Jase joined him, the warm water sliding along his naked hide like a lover’s caress. He dove deep, pushing his body to the brink of exhaustion. The visions of Emily stayed with him, taunting him with sexual need. Shit. He shot for the surface and gasped great gulps of air.

Female laughter nearly had him turning toward the source. A couple of local buckle bunnies swam closer to Jase, chuckling softly. Cole joined him.

“Well, if it isn’t Jase Farley, rodeo champion, and Cole Adams, champion bull rider.”

  “Hey,” Cole greeted the women.

Jase never encouraged the young women who followed the rodeo or recognized him here at home. His parents had never liked that he was competing in the rodeo circuit. They liked even less that he competed in bareback bronc riding. His brothers teased him unmercifully about the young women who chased after him. He’d recently given up riding broncs in the rodeos, but the women hadn’t quit following him. When he went for a ride on a barely trained horse today, his father had gotten after him again about keeping his mind on their ranch business and not on bronc riding. He was doing his best to focus on his duties but once in a while he couldn’t resist the adrenalin rush and challenge of feeling a barely trained horse under him.

“Race you,” the blonde named Susie offered.

Jase realized his hard-on was gone. “Maybe later,” Jase answered. He turned away as the brunette named Nancy splashed water at him and Cole.

Cole joined him and they swam for the opposite side of the lake with long slow strokes and alternately floated, easing their tired bodies. Damn. Why did just the thought of Emily arouse him?

The laughter and soft tones of his brother Trey’s voice and Cole’s brother Derek in conversation with their friend Lacy met them on the opposite side of the lake. They all three were in the water talking together.

The three of them had always been good friends. As the next oldest brother, Jase, was the manager of his parents’ ranch, the Farley Ranch. His brothers Drake and Luke, who looked after the oil wells, also worked with him with the livestock. Trey, the youngest, worked part-time at the ranch when he was home from school. Trey and Derek were busy with their landscaping business in Heat Springs as well.

Jase was the tallest of his brothers, and strong from years of working long hard hours taking care of the chores like rounding up and herding the livestock and mending whatever was broken. It looked like Trey, now in his early twenties, had finally caught up to him in size this last year at college. Trey had only been back for about a week and tonight was the first opportunity Jase had had to visit with him. He watched quietly as Trey interacted with Lacy and Derek. They were obviously all three having a great time. Lacy seemed perfectly comfortable with Trey and Derek making playful moves on her. She held her own and backed them away when the two eager guys got more intimate than she seemed to want.

Jase had always wanted to ride bucking horses as long as he could remember, even as a young boy. He endeavored to be happy and content with the activity on the family-run ranch, and not wish that he was out on the rodeo circuit. But even though he loved his family, the wish for more excitement was always there because of his family’s heritage as alpha panther-shifter guides and protectors to those who had needed them for many generations down through the ages since ancient times.

Riding in the rodeos had given him a place where he could live a little dangerously and get rid of some of his untamed shifter temperament. He’d been successful at the rodeos, winning sometimes, but always working off his inborn alpha aggressiveness.

Being the ranch manager of livestock had weighed on him with the responsibilities his dad had given him. His younger brothers had sometimes been more hindrance than help in handling all the ranch work. His youngest brother, Trey, had been spoiled by their mom, and he tended to live life too carelessly for his own good at times.

Jase should probably warn Trey about taking things too far with Lacy. His parents had no idea what Trey was up to with Lacy these days. It had added to the responsibility Jase felt for his family.

And since Jase had seen Emily, anytime he was around her, he suddenly forgot all else. That couldn’t be good. Not only that, he hadn’t been able to get her out of his mind for any length of time. Just thinking about her made him hard.

  * * * *

Cole thought of playing with Emily in the warm water and his dick rose hard as a rock and ready to thrust deep inside a willing pussy. Emily’s sweet scent stayed in his head along with the vision of her lovely face. Just the thought of her sassy walk and curvy figure had him breathing faster. Hell, even though he wished otherwise, no other girl would do for him now that he’d met Emily. After his recent break up with his college girlfriend, he wondered if Emily would be at all interested in him.

  The
youngest of his brothers, he’d been trying to measure up to them his whole life, even though he was a jaguar shifter, just like them, with a proud heritage going way back many centuries. It had been told to him that the jaguar shifters were the most powerful guides and protectors of all shifters.

He had tried to do his best to make up for being the youngest son. He’d been working on his family’s ranch, the Adams Ranch, as far back as he could remember. All ranch kids were put up on a horse, practically as soon as they could crawl, with their elders holding them. He was one of the best ranch hands and horse trainers around, but maybe that wasn’t enough to attract a girl. The ranch continued to be managed by his oldest brother, Mike, even though Mike also owned and ran the spa on the ranch. It was a hard act to follow, and his dad expected more from him. His dream was to be a well-known horse trainer.

When Cole’s college girlfriend left town and ended their relationship, their break-up hurt bad. He’d had no plans to get serious again anytime soon. But that was before he met Emily. It shook him clear to his toes, but he knew she must be the one for him. He wanted her more than he’d wanted his ex-girlfriend, and she’d been hot. But Emily was, well, sexy as hell. He wanted her so bad, he sported a full-fledged arousal the whole time he was near her. Even just thinking about her left him hard and aching.

His cock jutted upward, his balls swollen and ready for action. He wanted to taste Emily all over, lick her sweet pussy, and torment her clit. He wanted to thrust his raging cock deep inside her slick passage. He’d fuck her slow and then fast until she shouted his name with her own release and bucked her hips against his loins, her thighs wide open. He ached to feel her delicate fingers curl around his cock, her lips close around the tip, and her tongue taste his cum with long slow licks, like a sexy feline. He wanted to feel her teeth squeeze and nip him, her hands grip and stroke his rod harder and harder, rough with need and desperation until they both found their release and climaxed.
