Anna Rising: Creator Gene Trilogy - Book One Page 4

by Jacqueline Loggins

She was on a detail orbiting their world when the call came in for her to report to her command for a change of orders and briefing on her new tasks. “You are to escort the Trundi during his diplomatic tour.” Her commander said. Her new assignment was to be Trundi's personal bodyguard. Nomi had worked his detail before and honestly never liked him very much.

His arrogance and haughty personality left little to be desired, but all her disdain for him did not outweigh the love for her people and planet. Once she discovered the ship's coordinates were set for the Nukk's home world, it was too late. She was taken and locked away beneath the ship's deck. Still ignorant of his reasons, Nomi was stripped of her weapons, uniform, her title and her future.

She was in Nukk possession for nearly a month before learning why all this was happening to her.

After they discovered no trace of the Creator Gene in her genetic code, she was tossed to the side and left at the mercy of Trundi who often beat and molested her. A sense of hopelessness slowly took possession in her once proud and honorable spirit. She was tossed away and betrayed by a people she loved, honored and served.

Seeing her story before my eyes, my heart broke for her. She had lost everything all because of something she had no control over. Honor and ignorance lead her into the snare of the enemy, stuck here to be cut and probed and studied. Soon after her memories ended, I heard a thud on the floor in her cell. “Are you alright?” I asked putting my ear against the wall. “Yes, that always wear me out, but it is the best way to communicate in here. They can record our words, but fortunately for us, our thoughts are still ours.” She said. Feeling Nomi's desperation along with my own, I could only come to one conclusion.“We have to find a way out.”

  - THIRTEEN -

The next day I was taken from my cell into an examination room. The lights were harsh and bright. It wasn't until a few seconds I was strapped onto the table when I realized I wasn't blind. Four Nukk stood above observing me. One ran his gloved hands all over my body, while the other inserted needles then tubes into my body. I struggled and screamed to no avail. Soon after I was put into a deep sleep.

“What happened?” I asked cracking my eyes open in hopes that the past few days was just a dream. “They took samples from you.” A male voice answered. “You're were tested for the Creator Gene.” This voice I recognized. It was Nomi's. “What? What do you mean?” I sat up looking around the white room. There were several new people – creatures – there.

“When did I get back here?” I asked.

  “Last night.” She said.

  “How long was I gone?”

“Nine days.” The male voice spoke again. “I am sorry. Excuse my manners. I am Abba and this is my brother Zabbah.” He said pointing to the male sitting on the beside him. They both were identical. The brothers had deep coal colored skin, slightly enlarged bald heads and elongated arms, torso and legs. Their eyes were slightly larger than a human's. “Are you siblings as well?” I asked. “Yes.” Nomi cut in. They're pure blood Yawiens. Their mother is of noble high birth and closely related to the Lundi.” She explained.

“How did you end up here?” I asked.

“Trundi accused us of a crime for which we were innocent.” Zabbah answered.

“We were to be transported to prison, but were secretly brought to the Nukk instead.” Abba finished.

“Do you two always finish each others...”

  “Yes.” They both answered.

Abba looked at me, then shot Nomi a look of concern. “We must find a way out if we are to survive.” He said to her. “What going? What's wrong?” I asked. “He believes they are have found the Creator Gene.” Nomi said. Relief came over me. “Now that they've located it, maybe we can all be let out of this damn place.” I said. But Abba and Zabbah looked down. “What is it?” I asked. “You do not understand, Anna. Now that they've found it, they will dispose of the rest of us. Including the youngest of us.” Zabbah said. I looked around the room at the others. Some were only of toddler size.

“We can't let that happen!” I said. “Now that they've gotten the one carrying the gene, we need a plan to sneak out.” But Nomi shook her head.

“We won't be able to escape.” She said.

“What do you mean? Why not?” I asked.

“The Creator Gene was passed onto you.” Zabbah said. “They have tried for days to extract it, but have been unsuccessful so far. They will come for you again - soon.” He continued.

It hit me like a ton of bricks. How can a father I never knew pass on an ancient gene that will have me killed or imprisoned, maybe forever? I have to get out here before they come back again. I'm not going to become some alien experiment.

Hours later we were all taken out of the room and back into our padded cells. Suuti, who I learned from Nomi, is considered the grand priest of the Nukk race, came himself to escort me to my cell. The guards made a special effort to keep a maximum distance between Suuti and Nomi. She had to have two guards escort her. The Nukk had noted her to be aggressive and combative. She shot an evil eye at Trundi when he began to trail behind me and Suuti. I'm beginning to like her more and more.

Suuti was very old and wise among his race. His slanted diamond-shaped eyes and snake-like features made him repulsive to look at. I tried to hide my fear and revulsion when he spoke. “It seems the Creator Gene has surprised us all. To choose one that is not Yawien is unheard of. In the long histories or our two races, this is a first. You should be honored, girl.” He said. “Honored for what? To die here while your scientists stick and probe my body?” I asked. “You will watch your words, girl!” The guard said tightening his grip on me. Suuti raised his hand in protest to the guard's aggression. He loosen the grip.

“Not to worry, human girl. You are safe, for now.” He said then looked at the guards escorting me. “We need the host alive in order to capture the gene, least it die with her.”

“And what if you don't capture it?” I asked with a defiant tone.

“Oh we will.” He smiled as the guard roughly pushed me into my cell then closing in the wall again.

I pressed an ear against the wall to hear the exchange between Suuti and Trundi.”

“What of the others?” Trundi asked.

“What of them? We now have who we need.” Suuti said.

“We agreed that you would assist me in gathering up all of my father's seed. There are these and the others who roam free throughout the cosmos.” Trundi said.

“Then do what you will. You have delivered us the one. The remaining of your siblings are yours to do what you desire.”

“Thank you for your generosity, Great Suuti.”

The anger burning inside me made it hard to sleep through the night. I was going to be an experiment while the rest of my siblings would be tortured, beaten and most likely killed, because of some stupid Creator Gene. I called on the only person I could.

“Nomi, are you awake?” I sent my thought to her.

  “Yes.” She responded.

“We have to leave, soon. Trundi intends to torture and kill as many of you as he can.”

  “Yes.” She said.

“Is there a way off this planet? A way we can escape?” I asked.

  “Yes.”

  - FOURTEEN -

Despite me being in and out of the labs, we were able to devise an escape plan that would either save us or lead us to horrible, painful deaths. Nomi, observed the behaviors of the security long enough to learn that in order to get in and out of the cells, the Nukk guards have to scan their hand prints. So all we needed was a hand print which is where Abba would be able to help us.

There is a particular Nukk guard who has taken a liking to Abba and occasionally enters his cell at night to pleasure himself. Abba would have to secure his hand print, which means overpowering the guard and killing him. If he is successful, then we would be able to proceed to the second part of our escape. No one knew enough about Nukk technology to pilot any of their ships.

>   But Nomi knew how to pilot a Yawien ship. And the only Yawien ship on the planet belonged to Trundi. She also remembered where it was docked. She made a note of it when she first came here and was planning her own getaway. So if we are to escape, we would have to do it before Trundi leaves on his next quest to capture more siblings.

We were all sitting together in mind talk, putting the finishing touches on our plan when Trundi walked into the holding room. “My brothers and sisters!” He said. “Today is a new day for you all. You are no longer under the rule of the Nukk. I have taken ownership of this prison. My word, my rule.” He grinned. I shivered, not knowing what cruelty he had planned for the others. The others were all frozen in fear, except for Nomi.

She only giggled. “Congratulations brother! You finally have your kingdom.” She said motioning her hand around the room. “There will be no more insolence from you!” Trundi clinched his teeth. Nomi, laughed louder. “Or what? A beating? Starvation? Rape? Or maybe this time you shall kill me.” She said. Trundi swiftly crossed to her, slapping her against the wall.

Blood trickled down the side of her face as she pressed her hand over the fresh wound. I prayed he wouldn't kill her. “It is no wonder the Creator Gene did not choose you!” She shouted. “You are not worthy of it. You are not worthy to rule the Yawien world! You are no king. You are a parasite!” Trundi punched her in the head several times knocking her unconscious. Abba and Zabbah, ran to her aid, but were stopped by the guards. “No one helps her. No one touches her.” Trundi said. “Take her away!” He commanded the guards.

“As for the rest of you, there will be two days of no rations. You are to stay in your cells until I decide otherwise.” He said. “We wouldn't want to put our little chosen one in any danger now, would we?” He brushed his hand across my cheek giving me the opportunity to bite it. He looked at the mark and grinned before slapping me with the back of his hand. The guards immediately came to my aid preventing him from doing any further damage. He looked at me with pure hatred. “You may be protected, but know I have other plans, sister.” He smirked.

I soon found out what those other plans were. After three days of lock-up we were assembled back into the open area. Trundi stood in front of us in his true form. When he saw me, a wide smile appeared on his face. “I've assembled you here to present you with a form of entertainment.” He said as everyone in the room shifted nervously. “As you may or not know, our dear Anna is not the only human with us. My heart dropped. That bastard! That cruel bastard! Sammie is innocent. He is not a child of the Lundi and has nothing to do with any of this. “Bring the human boy forth.” Trundi commanded the guards.

Sammie was chained at the wrists and ankles. There was a white blindfold over his eyes. My emotions broke through. “Sammie!” I screamed trying to move closer to him before the guards grabbed me. “Anna? Anna help!” Sammie cried. “Please don't hurt him! He don't have nothing to do with this!” I pleaded, but Trundi's smile widen. “It's time for you, my brothers and sisters, to learn the extent of my rule. There will be a cleansing among you, starting now.

Today it is this human. Tomorrow, it will be one of you.” He nod to the one of the guards who pulled out a weapon pointing it to Sammie's temple. “You bastard!” I yelled. “Now!” Trundi said. The guard activated the weapon and fired. Sammie's body dropped to the floor. Blood poured from his head as it landed at a weird angle. I screamed and attempted to claw my way through the crowd only to be held back by Abba, Zabbah and a couple others. “It is over!” Abba said. “There is nothing to be done. He is gone.” Zabbah added.

The next day I refuse to eat or drink. I invited death to clench it's cold hands around my spirit and snatch me from this existence. Sammie was gone and it was because of me. I was inaccessible to Trundi, so he would hurt or kill all that I care about. It was his jealously and desire for the Creator Gene. A gene that is responsible for the creation of life in the universe, yet it has never brought anything to me but imprisonment, torture and death. It was time. I would escape this place or die trying.
