“Ryan, I—”
But he stopped her. “It’ll be okay, Siobhan. Everything will work out fine. You’ll see. I promise.” Then he blew her one last kiss, and turned away.
The sky was blue as Ryan jogged home along the beach. Fat clouds cast lazy shadows on the sand. A gull circled high above his head, and he felt his heart soar along with it.
The bitter winter was over, at last; it was spring now. The cherry trees that lined the path had lost most of their blossoms, sodden pink petals littered the walk. But the trees themselves had weathered the storms. Come summer, their branches would be laden with cherries – sweet as love and ripe with promise.
It would be a glorious summer.
