“I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” It was a female’s voice that came from the corner of the room and she sounded exhausted.

“Who are you?” Gwen asked the stranger startled.

“I am one of the EMT that found you and your special agent in that sleaze bag cabin.” The woman stood and came closer; she pushed Gwen’s hair back gently.

“Who are you though, I want your name.” Gwen was still hesitant about anyone.

“My name is Kaysi Groves you’re safe.”

Gwen rubbed her forehead and she finally started to remember the ride to the hospital, Darrien had coded. “Where is he?”

  “Who?”

“Darrien, where is Darrien.” She was getting frantic.

“I am not sure, he got moved to the recovery wing this morning.” Kaysi said.

“I need to see him.” Gwen started to get up, she reached for the stand that was holding her medicine and she began to pull herself up.

“You’re a stubborn patient aren’t you?” Kaysi laughed softly but came up to Gwen with her arms out in case Gwen needed any help.

“I don’t take to being told what to do very well. It is best to learn that early Kaysi,” Gwen’s body struggled and shook, “how long have I been out?”

  “Just under three days.”

  “What?”

“Yeah, you passed out in the bus I guess you needed to recover.” Kaysi said.

“How? How could I be out that long?” Gwen held onto the cool metal pole for dear life.

“Want me to get you a chair? Your muscles need to wake up after being still for that long.” Kaysi sounded worried for the virtual stranger she met days ago.

“Yes, please. I need to go see him.” Gwen’s voice was strong; she would not waver from her need to see Darrien.

“We can go look for him, here sit down and I will go get a wheel chair and we can wheel you around till we find him,” Kaysi lowered Gwen back onto the bed, “you stay down until I get back I don’t need you falling I’d get in some trouble for that. Got it?”

“Yes ma’am.” Gwen said mockingly, her sarcasm was returning quickly.

It took Kaysi only seconds to get a wheel chair but Gwen was already twitching, she was unable to sit still, she was finger combing her hair and adjusting her hospital gowns, the bandages were stark white against her tanned skin. When the sound of Kaysi’s voice sounded behind her.

“Your chariot has arrived Gwen.” Kaysi was comfortable using Gwen’s name; hell she had spent a lot of time with her watching over her the past few days.

Gwen slipped into the chair gingerly, her body was still screaming at her but she was going to take the pain in order to check on Darrien. Kaysi wheeled her past the nurses station, Gwen wasn’t sure if she would be allowed out of bet let alone walk to find him. Her heart was in her throat, Kaysi kept wheeling her further and further and nervous twitching was setting in. Gwen didn’t know what to do with her hands so she finger combed her hair and ignored the stabbing pain that emanated from her entire core.

Kaysi suddenly wheeled around and pushed her butt through the door first then pulled Gwen into the room behind her. The pristine white walls were just like the ones in her room but the smell in this room was different, it smelled so sterile, it made her stomach knot. The smell was putrid to her, so much blood had been shed, so much time had been spent in the hospital or in the morgue lately she hated the smell and would never be able to stomach it again. She looked over at the bed and her heart shattered. Darrien’s body was motionless, he was covered in gauze and there were tubes in his mouth and nostrils. Gwen squeezed her eyes shut as if the image would change when she opened them. There was no luck, when she opened her eyes again and they roamed his body she found the exact same scene but this time she noticed his skin was pale and coated in sheen of sweat. He was in pain; Gwen couldn’t take the sight so she buried her head in her hands. Her exhaustion was catching up to her and her tears fell fast, her chest began to heave with sobs.

“God he’s hurt so bad.” Her eyes were spilling and her voice was barely audible.

“He’s alive though.” Kaysi whispered softly while stroking Gwen’s shoulder.

“Barely!” Gwen burst out; she tried to move her shoulder away from Kaysi’s touch but the pain from the jerking motion made Gwen settle down.

“If you didn’t do CPR or try to keep him alive he wouldn’t have been alive when we got to him, you saved him Gwen.” Kaysi tried to explain what happened but Gwen wasn’t going to hear it.

“He’s fighting for his life because of me, because of my ex-boyfriend, he wouldn’t need to be here if it wasn’t for me.” Gwen’s hysterical shrill rang in Kaysi’s ears.

“Gwen, calm down. He’s alive that’s what matters, you’re here and he’s here.”

Gwen was beyond speaking at this point. Her tears were falling. She moved her chair slowly beside Darrien’s bed, she held his hand, and hissed the back of his hand. Gwen mumbled into Darrien’s ear, “please come back Darrien, I love you.”

Gwen laid her head down beside Darrien on the bed and soon was overcome by her exhaustion. Her fingers caressed his arm and shoulder. Gwen’s eyes were closed and she felt a hand on her shoulder gently shaking her back to consciousness.

“Miss Bjorkman we have to take you to your room.”

“Mmmmfuckoff.” Gwen mumbled not awake yet.

“Miss Bjorkman…” The voice was exasperated.

“I’m not leaving him.” Gwen was more awake now and she tightened her grip on Darrien’s pale hand.

“We cannot allow you to stay in the room.”

“You will only get me out of here if you tranquilize me and drag me out kicking and screaming.” Gwen’s hand tightened more on Darrien’s in case they started pulling, the nurse looked at her watched and exhaled hard.

“Fine, no walking and I’ll have them transfer you over here so we can free up your room since you’re not using it.” The nurse turned and walked out quickly, Gwen’s eyes closed again and she drifted in a fog.

Gwen’s body felt heavy and her dream was blurry. No doubt that was a side effect from the medication. Her arms felt like gelatin, and her back was throbbing from the angle that she fell asleep at. There was movement in the room; Gwen felt a hand moving on her head, someone was stroking her hair gently. Her eyes popped open and there was a light on that burned her eyes at first. Gwen grabbed for the hand stroking her head and it was Darrien. He was awake. Gwen launched herself up the bed and began to reverently kiss him over and over again.

Gwen was beautiful as she slept, the blood started to rush to lower parts of Darrien’s anatomy, her soft, pink, lips were parted just right and even though he was in pain he was getting a hard on. She was in simple scrubs. His hand inched out to touch her. He needed to feel her; he needed to know she was okay. Darrien felt her warm flesh under his rough palm; he dragged his hand over her shoulders then to her beautiful hair. Her blonde locks were still soft and she was still Gwen. He sighed contented. The darkness had scared him. The last thing he could remember was looking at her, covered in blood and sweat. She had been in so much pain but he couldn’t do anything to stop it. He leaned down and kissed her head then went back to just rubbing his hand through her luscious locks.

She started to move a little. He kept his hand moving. Suddenly her eyes popped open and she was on the bed with him. Her lips were firm against him, and if a beautiful woman only covered in a hospital gown couldn’t get your blood pumping he didn’t’ know what could. His hands moved to her backside, he ignored the feel of the needle that pinched his vein. Her only reply was a soft moan, and in response his body completely woke up, he was stiff and aching to be inside of her. The machine that monitored his heart started to chime that his heart rate was rising. He didn’t care. Darrien wanted her and he wanted her bad. So long as Gwen wanted him he would not stop her at all. His hips were pushing up and her lips invited him more.

Gwen on top of him again was like a dream
come true. He didn’t give a damn about his own health she was fine. Damn was she fine. He massaged her hips and pulled her down tightly against him. Darrien pulled her hair lightly and she turned her head just right. His lips found purchase against her neck, she moaned once more. He could tell just by the guttural sound she was ready for more; she was wet just where he needed her. His mouth parted and captured her tender lip between his teeth; he teased it by licking and sucking it as he would her clit if he could reach it. Gwen’s hips jerked, she was putty for his advances and he was going to take advantage of it. He pulled the IV out of his hand and roughly inserted one of his fingers inside of her, she gasped and started to pull back.

“No baby.” His voice sounded like he swallowed razor blades and gargled with lemon juice he needed to feel her.

“Oh God Darrien.” She was only able to moan, her fingers stopped trying to pull him away and she began to grind on his bulky finger, his big body shuddered.

Darrien instantly wanted to be inside of her. He wanted his mouth to tease her clit and claim her. He wanted Gwen to shake with orgasm the way she did when he first had her. He swirled his finger around inside of her touching every wall inside of her, even after only a day or two he missed the feel of her. Hell, how long had he been out? He didn’t care his attention was on her and she deserved all of it all the time. He pulled her to his mouth aggressively he dominated her body with his own; the only thing keeping them apart was the blanket. He began to fight the blanket, trying to force it out of his way so he could completely claim his female.

There was a slight ripping noise when the blanket finally pulled away revealing his elongated flesh and her soft creamy thighs were parted over him, all he had to do was thrust up and he would be exactly where he craved. His entire body heated and his chest rumbled with approval, her scent was filling his nostrils, Gwen’s soft scent made his cock throb to the point of pain. His attention was completely on her, his lips were hard on hers and their hearts seemed to jackhammer in unison. A sudden throat-clearing cough came from the doorway. A male doctor stood in the doorframe and Darrien pulled Gwen into his side, he ignored the jabbing pain. No one would look upon Gwen in the throes of passion except for him so long as there was a breath in his body.

“Nice to see you awake Mr. Davis.” Darrien could hear the smirk in the doctor’s voice and he wanted to get up and teach the bastard a lesson about knocking and having that tone when Gwen was near.

“Yeah, I’m up now when the hell can I get out of here?” Darrien’s hand rested on Gwen’s inner thigh, he wanted to take her home and have her in privacy.

“Soon, we need to monitor you a couple of days.” The doctor was recording Darrien’s vitals as he spoke.

“I want to leave.” Darrien grumbled.

“Tough Mr. Davis, you are here until you are cleared by the doctor and that just happens to be me.” The doctor clicked his pen and checked Darrien’s pupils.

Darrien held onto Gwen tightly, his thumb rhythmically rubbing her creamy flesh. “What about Gwen, how long is she in for?” He could hear the nervousness come through his voice.

“She is good to go, she just has to take it easy.”

“Well I’m not leaving without Darrien.” Gwen spoke up, her voice was a reprieve for him, and he was touched that she wouldn’t leave without him; he gently squeezed her hand.

“We don’t have extra room for you Miss Bjorkman.” The doctor sounded exhausted of arguing with them already.

“I’ll stay in here with him.” She offered.

“Baby you don’t have to do that.” Darrien inhaled at her neck before placing a chaste kiss on her lips.

“You can’t stay Miss Bjorkman.” The doctor was adamant.

“Why the hell not?” Gwen pushed herself up and hid her wince unsuccessfully.

“What I just walked in on would not be good for the patient’s recovery.” The doctor was getting snappier and Darrien’s hand got itchy to correct his attitude.

“Fine I won’t have intercourse with him in the bed, doctor’s promise” She held up her hand as if she were swearing on a bible, Darrien wanted to groan in dismay, he needed to feel her, he could not believe she would agree to this when she knew what he wanted and needed more than anything was to bury himself inside of her and just feel.

“Fine Miss Bjorkman, you can stay but you two risk health by having sex against my orders you Miss Bjorkman will be sent out and not allowed to return until he is checking out, understood?

“Yes.” Gwen and Darrien answered in tandem.

“Good, well keep yourself relaxed and we can see what we can do about getting you out of here sooner rather than later.” The doctor turned and walked out of the room and Darrien’s mischievous smile returned.

“I said no hanky panky in the bed.” Gwen chastised his raised brows.

“In the bed… there’s a perfectly good bathroom right here.” Darrien had the answer ready.

“Darrien no, when you get the green light from the doctor.” She wiggled against him in a vain attempt to move away.

“What does my doc say?” He began to use his hips and lips as a weapon, he was grinding and gyrating his hips hard into her, his intent rigid between his legs again and his lips were caressing her throat enhancing his thoughts and he was nipping Gwen’s neck.

“I say let’s give you at least a day to heal then I can give you a sponge bath personally.” Darrien’s cock jumped at the mention of Gwen tenderly washing him. He wanted the bath to happen now.

“Why not now?” Darrien’s groan was louder than he expected.

“Because I can’t leave you.” Gwen’s eyes moved up to his and Darrien felt his heart wrench again her emotion surprised Darrien in the best way he could have ever wanted or needed.

“Okay baby, just curl on up with me and let me hold you, that’s the best medicine I can ask for.” He rubbed her shoulders softly.

They lay together and talked for the evening, soon Darrien found him telling Gwen about things he never mentioned to anyone again. He explained about his sister, and why he came into the protection program. Soon her breathing slowed, Darrien was midsentence when he looked down and saw Gwen had fallen asleep, her entire body was curled around his. He chuckled slightly and kissed her forehead. Darrien pressed the bed button and laid them down.

Gwen spent each night with Darrien until the asshole doctor finally said he was safe to travel. They talked for hours about their plans, Darrien agreed to come back to Washington, he would have a lot of paperwork to fill out about the injuries and his account of the death of that pond scum Kody McQueen. Darrien had made up his mind about moving rather easily. His family was never close, especially after his sister disappeared. Gwen had left his side only once to get their belongings out of the hotel room, the scene was wrapped as a crime scene for a week while evidence was processed and every inch was walked then re-walked by different agencies and professionals. She returned quickly and their suitcases now sat in the corner of his private room.

“Mr. Davis you are released and cleared for travel, but I will forward your medical reports to the doctor in Seattle that will take over your case, and hope I never see you for an injury such as this again.” The doctor signed the slip for Darrien’s freedom and left the room in haste, he had many patients to check on which was just as well, the guy really grated Darrien’s ass.

Gwen had worked her magic on the phone and scored them two first class upgrades for the flight to SeaTac. The seats were surprisingly comfortable. He was not quite up to walking so Gwen had called ahead, she was quite commanding with the airport staff, they had a wheelchair waiting for him and their luggage was being carted for them. They wanted to have her ride on a cart but Gwen refused with an argument that surprised him.

“I’ve spent the last week on my ass feeling like an invalid the least I can do is walk to my gate especially with a six hour flight ahead of us.” Her hands were on her hips and she was mad.

  They were seated first whe
n it came time to board. Darrien grabbed her by the waist when they were at their seats and kissed her deeply, he was so thankful that she was alive, as if she read his mind she spoke quietly as they slipped into the comfort of the first class cushion, “thank you for pulling through Darrien, if I would have lost you I don’t know if I could have continued.”

“What?” Darrien was alarmed; a world without Gwen in it would be a travesty.

“I have lost so many people because of Kody. I lost myself, I lost Torrian,” Darrien noted the wince on his name Torrian was the correctional officer she was engaged to, he was jealous but kept himself in check, “I lost my parents, I lost friends, I lost everyone. I even think I lost my job. I just don’t think I can do it anymore.”

“I don’t blame you baby.” Darrien settled in beside her with a comforting hand on her thigh.

“I guess this means I am going to have to take over my father’s practice and open it back up.” Gwen announced with a small smile.

“That’s a lot safer of a job, I approve angel.” Darrien was testing the names out with ease, Gwen was basking in the adoration and her skin even was starting to glow like it did before.

“Of course you approve, but it will be hard work and a lot of long days, think you can date a clinical psychologist that works eight hours a day five days a week and is on call?” She asked.

“Hell yeah I can, but you better not answer when I finally get to worship you properly.” He used the carnal threat effectively; his voice was a soft grumble in his chest.

Darrien draped his arm around her for the flight, just to make sure any and every male that looked her way knew she was spoken for. He knew he wanted than do a lot more than date her, but if she was still hurt over Torrian he knew to respect that. He wouldn’t win her by forcing her to get over something as fucked up as the ex killing the fiancé. That was just rough to deal with and wrong to do. They kicked back and waited for the plane to load. Soon the large vessel was taxiing out to the runway and taking off for his new life in Seattle, Darrien couldn’t have been happier at that moment and he knew just how to keep his happiness; he loved Gwen and had to think of a special way to tell her.
