She cried out when he spread her legs and entered her. He was rough, fast, and demanding. She dug her nails into his back and held to him to keep the pace. He was the opposite of what she had expected. She had assumed sex with him would be sweet, slow, and pleasant because he was so reserved in manner. Just the contrary, his hands were frantic and bold.
Eyes filled with hot passion watched her as she neared her climax. Heat streaked to the pit of her stomach as his lips devoured hers. The kiss was almost painful as his lips crushed against hers. His tongue danced with hers as his grueling pounding against her body continued. Her hands moved to his chest and she gripped his muscles feeling them ripple under her touch, feeling his rapid heartbeat. She cried out when the orgasm ripped through her body. It seemed to go on forever. He followed her into the ecstasy. He rolled off and wrapped around her. Sex with him left her so dazed, in moments she was asleep.
Chapter Fifteen
Michelle opened her eyes and groaned. Sun spilled through the huge windows that banked the far side of the wall. She had not meant to spend the night at Scott’s. She sat up and peered around the room. She was alone. Where was Scott?
“Good morning. How did you sleep?”
“Like I was dead.” Tray in hand, he strolled into the room with a huge smile on his face, and stepped to the side of the bed. “Are you ready for breakfast?”
“Yes, I’m starving.” She pressed her back against the headboard being careful to keep the sheet tight under her arms. “I’ve never had breakfast in bed before.”
“I like doing firsts with you.” After she got situated, Scott placed the tray in her lap. Unfolding a red napkin with a flourish, he placed it on the tray beside her plate. The smell of bacon, eggs, hash browns and toast caused her stomach to rumble. “Did you fix all this?”
“No, Martha, my housekeeper. She comes by to clean three days a week so I talked her into preparing breakfast for us.” Wearing jeans and a baby blue button up shirt, he scooted next to her and grabbed a piece of bacon off her plate. The ends of his hair were still damp from his shower. He smelled fresh and clean.
“I need to call Lacy. She’s probably worried sick.”
“I took the liberty of calling her last night letting her know you’d be spending the night.” He took a big bite of bacon, chewed, then swallowed. “You dozed off to sleep in the middle of a sentence. I hated to wake you.”
On the brink of losing her temper, she snapped, “I told you I wasn’t spending the night.”
His smile faded. “As I explained, you went to sleep. What did you expect me to do? Wake you and drag you home at one in the morning?” He gave her a sensual wink. “Besides I was as exhausted as you.”
Poised for a fight, ready to argue, she pressed, “If that is what I asked you to do, yes.” She reached for her orange juice and took a sip. Raising an eyebrow, she hissed, “I will not be controlled by you, Scott. You will not make decisions for me.”
“Eat your breakfast before it gets cold. We can argue when you finish.” He grabbed another piece of bacon and nibbled on it while his eyes never left her face. He was much too agreeable. It was hard to have an argument with someone who wouldn’t argue back. The fact that she was angry with him didn’t even seem to faze him.
“I cleared my calendar for the day. How about we spend the day together?”
Taking another sip of orange juice, she tried to control her temper. She couldn’t get over the fact he took it upon himself to call Lacy. While she didn’t appreciate him not waking her up and taking her home last night, she decided to let it pass. “What do you have in mind?”
“I thought I’d buy you a car.” Coughing, Michelle tried to catch her breath. “Are you okay?”
By sheer force of will, she gripped her hands together to keep from throwing the tray at Scott. With a decisive shake of her head, she croaked loudly, “You’re horse crap crazy. Buying me a car is completely out of the question! I’m not a charity case.”
“I don’t see you as a charity case. You need a vehicle and I’d be honored to purchase you one. We’ve been going out for a couple of weeks. You’ve had dinner at my father and mother’s twice.” He hesitated for only a moment. “They love you as much as I do.”
“It’s too early to say the L word.”
“I like you a lot. I know I want you with me. ” He stroked a finger over her arm. “Is that better?”
Scott’s father and mother had welcomed her with open arms. Neither seemed to mind that she came from humble beginnings. She and Sherry had even met a few times for lunch. She could see Sherry becoming a close friend. Nevertheless, she wasn’t prepared for his offer of buying her a car. “It’s too soon.” God, the man annoyed and aroused her at the same time.
“I know things have moved fast but I want to buy you something. You need a car.”
Michelle settled back against the headboard. “When I can afford it, I’ll buy my own car. I’ve said all I’m going to say to you about buying me a car. I’ll not allow it, discussion over.”
He placed his hands up in front of him, and shrugged his broad shoulders. “Okay, okay, little tiger, consider the topic dropped.” He smiled. “What would you like to do today?”
She gave it some thought. What would she like to do with Scott? She wouldn’t mind staying in bed all day. Last night had been wonderful. He was a great lover. By his expression, he had the same thoughts. “I’d like to go to the North Carolina Zoo.”
“You’ve never been?”
“No, I’ve never had the opportunity.”
He leaned in and kissed her on the forehead. “I’ll whip us up a picnic lunch while you finish your breakfast and get a shower.”
The moment he left the room, she shoved the tray to the side and scrambled off the bed still holding the sheet to her chest in case he returned. Tiptoeing to the living room, she searched for her purse. It was on the sofa. Without wasting any time, she grabbed it and ran back to Scott’s bedroom in her bare feet. She crawled to the center of the huge bed and rummaged through her purse until she found her cell phone. Lacy answered on the first ring.
“Well, how did it go?”
Michelle closed her eyes and purred, “Amazing. He blew my mind. I had two amazing orgasms. I thought he was going to screw me to death.”
Lacy giggled. “I’m so happy for you.”
“He wants to buy me a car.”
“You must have been pretty amazing also.” Lacy said into the phone. “Are you going to let him buy you a car?”
“You know the answer to that question.”
Of course Lacy didn’t ask the question again. Since she was Michelle’s best friend, she knew her better than anyone. Her stubborn pride would not let her accept such a lavish gift. “I have to go. We’re going to the North Carolina Zoo.”
“I’m thrilled for you, Michelle. I hope this relationship works for you.”
“Me too. Love you.” Michelle ended the call and placed her phone back in her purse. She crammed bacon in between two pieces of toast and ate quickly as she made her way to the bathroom. Hopefully, a hot shower would ease the soreness of her body. She licked the bacon grease from the tips of her fingers before she opened the door and stepped into a beautiful bathroom. A huge shower big enough for four people took up one whole wall. On the far wall was the commode and sink with a long multicolored marble top. On the other wall was a step down tub big enough to swim in. She thought of her bathroom growing up. There wasn’t enough room to even turn around. But then she felt blessed to have a bathroom. Her grandmother didn’t have inside plumbing until ten years ago after her father and his two brothers had installed fixtures. When she was a little girl, she had to fight the bees and flies, not to mention the smell when she had to use the outhouse behind the house.
She dropped her sheet onto the floor beside the thick blue rug and stepped into the shower. She turned on the hot steaming water and let it cascade over her body. It felt like heaven. She suds up her hair and used the tips of
her fingers to massage it into her scalp. She didn’t see any conditioner. Hair as thick and curly as hers needed to be conditioned.
The shower door opened and Scott stepped inside. “Do you need me to wash your back?”
Shocked to see him, she replied, “You already had your shower.”
“It’s well worth taking another if I get to shower with you.” He soaped up his hands and began to rub them over her back. She moaned her pleasure.
“That feels wonderful.” She tilted her head under the spray of water to rinse out the shampoo. Her whole body tingled. He pressed his nude, wet body against her back. She could feel his hardness against her bottom.
“Do you want to have shower sex?”
“Not if we are going to the zoo. I’m already sore. I’ll have to go to bed the rest of the day if you have sex with me again.”
In a hurry to get away from Scott, she opened the shower door and stepped out onto the rug. She grabbed a towel from the cabinet and wrapped it around her body securing it at her breasts. She leaned over and towel dried her hair before she swathed it in the towel.
By the time Scott entered his bedroom, she was brushing out her hair. “How long does it take to dry all that hair?” A towel low on his hips, she admired his chest. He had a hard, muscular build.
“I usually let it air dry.”
“Do we need to swing by your place and get you some clothes?”
“No, my jeans I wore yesterday are fine.” She chewed on her bottom lip. “I would like some fresh panties.”
“Sherry sleeps over sometimes. You can find a pair in the other bedroom.”
Panties were personal and intimate. She drew herself up straight. “I don’t think she’d appreciate me wearing her panties.”
“She’ll never miss them.”
He left the room and returned with a lacy pair of black panties. She couldn’t imagine reserved, shy Sherry wearing the tiny, sexy swath of cloth. “Are these okay?” He held them by the one corner. A sense of intimacy came between them.
“Yes, they’re perfect.”
“She had a matching bra, but I’m sure it’s too small.”
Trying to look offended, she punched him on the arm. “I hope you’re not complaining.”
He reached out and pulled the towel loose letting it pool at her feet. His eyes stopped on her breasts. “No, ma’am, I have no complaints. Your breasts are awesome.” His hot stare made her self-conscious. She placed her arms over her breasts to hide them from his view. He pulled her hands away, pushed her to the bed, and fell on top of her. His lips feasted on her hard, coral nipples. Desire, hot and rampant filled her. She closed her eyes and reveled in the feelings of his lips driving her crazy.

Lacy looked up when Michelle and Scott came through the door laughing. Michelle sobered the moment she saw Lacy watching them. “Good morning.”
Cheeks flushed, Michelle said, “Good morning.”
Lacy looked at her watch. “I thought you were going to the zoo.”
“The day kind of got away from us and we never made it to the zoo. We’re planning a trip next Saturday.”
Lacy’s stare locked on Scott. A smile of masculine pleasure showed on his face. “Something smells good.”
“I’m preparing bacon, eggs, and grits.” Her cheeks turned pink. “We slept in this morning. “Would you two like to join us for a late breakfast?” Dylan had received a call from Tate at six o’clock that morning with a new assignment. He would be leaving for Charlotte. After the call, they had spent the morning in bed making love.
“Yes, I’m starving.”
“You ate breakfast two hours ago. How can you be hungry?”
Her eyes slid down Scott’s body and stopped on his crotch. “I had a very exhausting morning.” By the expression on his face, she had shocked him. “Aren’t you hungry?”
He gave her a devilish smile. “Now that you mention food, I am hungry.”
Lacy ordered, “Will you crack some eggs.” The sexual tension was thick enough to cut with a knife.
Michelle peered at Lacy. “Yes, I’ll crack some eggs.” She opened the refrigerator then asked Scott, “Is scrambled okay?”
“Scrambled is perfect. Can I do anything?”
“You can put some bread in the toaster.”
Dylan appeared from their bedroom in dress pants, starched white shirt, and a striped tie. “We were beginning to think you were never coming back home.” Michelle completely ignored his comment. “Hey, Scott, how’s it going?”
His lips drew up in a quick smile. “I can’t complain.”
Michelle asked, “Why are you dressed up on Sunday?” He ran his hand over the length of his necktie. Of course, Lacy knew how much he hated to wear a suit and tie.
“I have to go to Charlotte. I’ll be gone a couple of days.”
Lacy finished scrambling the eggs and spooned them into Dylan’s plate. She sat it in front of him at the table. “Do you want butter on your toast?”
“Yes, thank you, Scott.”
He placed two pieces of toast on a napkin and placed it next to Dylan’s plate. Everyone prepared their plates and sat at the table. Michelle asked, “What’s going on in Charlotte?”
Stuffing a cloth napkin in the collar of his shirt to keep from soiling his tie and white shirt, Dylan answered, “A drive by shooting where a ten year old girl was killed. The authorities think it is gang related. The whole neighborhood could erupt in war if we don’t find the shooter. The little girl’s uncle is a member of the Latin Kings, a rival gang of the Bloods. Tate believes he was the target and Yulianna Cortez was shot by mistake. Since I have a strong background in gang activity, Tate asked me to help with the investigation.”
Scott placed his napkin in his lap. “Beth said you worked undercover.”
“Yes, I infiltrated the South Side Crips. It took me a year to gain their trust. During my investigation, I discovered who supplied their drugs. Some of the members went to prison for a long time.”
“Sounds like dangerous work.”
As Dylan recounted in detail some of his close calls while doing undercover work, Lacy listened with apprehension. Her heart sank at the excitement she heard in his voice. She couldn’t help but notice a change in Dylan after Tate called.
Of course he had thrived on the danger. She’d been naïve to believe he could give up something he had loved for so many years. Even though he promised he wasn’t returning to undercover work, she feared he wouldn’t be able to turn down the opportunity if offered. It hadn’t been easy, but she had kept her fears to herself. Hopefully, she was worried for nothing. She kept telling herself that he was going to Charlotte to help with an investigation, nothing more. After the gang members responsible for killing the ten year old child were apprehended, he’d come back home to her. Feeling her apprehension, Dylan gave her tense hand a comforting squeeze under the table. She gave him a weak smile. Attention back on his plate, he took a bite of eggs. He lifted his juice glass and took a drink. As he continued to eat, he was quiet. Her eyes rested on his face. While Lacy knew he was excited about the case, he was also worried about leaving her.
Dylan stood and removed the napkin from his collar then blotted his mouth. “Josh will be here any minute. Thanks for the fabulous meal, Lacy.”
Scott asked, “How long will you be in Charlotte?”
“Until the investigation is over, maybe two, three days.” His attention shifted to Lacy. “Remember, a squad car will be outside around the clock. Don’t forget to set the security system when you leave the house and at night.”
After discovering the rose petals on her vehicle, Dylan insisted on having a home security system installed. Lacy had to admit it gave her a sense of safety.
Voice filled with worry, Scott asked, “Do you feel Lacy and Michelle are in danger?”
“Robertson is obsessed with Lacy. I think he had someone place the rose petals on Lacy’s Jeep. I can’t prove it, but I’m sure he is responsible.”<

“They can stay at my apartment. There is only one entrance. The elevator is the only access to my apartment on the fifth floor. I’ll have my driver take them to school and make sure they get back to my apartment safely.”
Before Lacy had time to answer, Michelle blurted out, “We’ll be fine. Dylan is just being overly careful.”
“There is going to be a policeman assigned to watch your apartment. I call that more than being careful.”
Michelle’s chin rose in defiance. “We are staying here, Scott.”
Not ready to give up, Scott offered, “I will stay here while Dylan is away.”
Lacy couldn’t tell how Michelle felt about Scott’s offer. Her face didn’t show any emotion. Lacy wouldn’t mind if he wanted to stay. But then it wasn’t up to her. It was a decision for Michelle to make.
Michelle cast a sideways look at Scott. She flashed a smile and tossed her long, curly hair behind her shoulders. “We’ll be fine. You have work and responsibilities. There is no need to babysit us. Dylan wouldn’t leave us here alone if he didn’t think we were safe.”
Scott fell silent as he seemed to try to think of a better argument. Maybe he knew better than to try to change Michelle’s mind. She didn’t give in very often. She was stubborn to a fault. He threw his napkin on the table and stood. “Speaking of work, I have something that needs my attention.” He bent and kissed Michelle on the cheek. “I’ll call you later today.”
“Come and have dinner with us tonight. I’ll cook.”
“Sounds wonderful.” He offered his hand to Dylan. “I hope all goes well.”
Dylan took the offered hand and gave him a firm handshake. “Can I have a word with you outside?”
The moment they were alone, Dylan asked, “Can you do a little investigating for me?”
He gave a small nod. “Sure, what do you need?”
“Before I was given this new assignment, I was trying to discover who Robertson has on the outside doing his dirty work.”
“Do you have any leads?”
