  “Do you want some evidence?” Nikki pulled the wrapped-up plastic out of her pocket with part of the torn-up check inside and offered it to him.

  “Yes.” Quinn sighed and rolled his eyes. “One of these days you’re going to let me be the detective.”

  “I’ll let you be the detective right now.” Nikki smiled. “You can detect the closest restaurant, because I’m starving!”

  “Great, thanks.” Quinn laughed as he led her down the driveway.
