Myself (Selfish Series, #2) Page 28

by Shantel Tessier

“You are unbelievable, you know that?” she snaps. “I can’t believe ...” She fists her hands down by her side.

“I needed to talk to you, and you’ve been ignoring my calls all day.”

“Because I don’t wanna talk to you,” she screams wide-eyed. “How hard is that for you to understand?”

  “Babe ...”

“Oh, don’t you dare”—she points at me—“start that shit! You cannot just walk in and call me babe.”

“I’m sorry,” I say in a rush before she can interrupt me again. But to my surprise, she has nothing to say.

She stands there on the sidewalk, wearing a blue dress that matches her eyes. Her blond hair down and curled, and I wonder how I survived this past week without her. It’s been hell!

She takes a deep breath and pulls her shoulders back. “I told you everything I wanted to tell you this morning in your office. I have nothing else to say to you.” Then she turns around, giving me her back, and walks off down the sidewalk.

“Ashlyn, wait!” I call out. She doesn’t stop.

I run after her. “Excuse me,” I say before pushing a man out of my way. “Pardon me.” Another man bumps into me. “Ashlyn ...” I call out her name as she walks down the sidewalk, her ass swaying back and forth. All that’s missing is her middle finger up in the air. “Move,” I say to a man who runs right into me ‘cause he’s too fucking busy looking down at his phone.

I see her slowing down in front of me due to the crowd on the sidewalk. And I pick up my feet, practically running after her now. “Ashlyn ...” I reach her and grab her upper arm. I step off the sidewalk and pull her between two buildings.

  “Ryder!” she snaps.

I push her up against the red brick building and pin her with my body. I grab both sides of her face and plant my lips on hers. “Ryder ...” she mumbles, and then her hands are on my chest, and she’s shoving me away.

I release her face and grab them, pinning them both above her head against the brick as well. “Kiss me,” I say breathlessly. “Kiss me, baby. Please,” I beg, and she growls in frustration. I’m desperate. “I’m ...”

“Shut up, Ryder,” she growls against my lips, and I take that as an invitation.

I press my lips to hers again, and it takes her a few seconds to open for me, but I wait impatiently.

  “Ashlyn?”

She lifts her leg and knees me in the balls. I stumble away from her, bending at the waist and coughing. My breath momentarily taken away.

We both look at where her name was being called to see her date, Nick standing over on the sidewalk, staring at us wide-eyed.

“Nick.” She reaches up and wipes my kiss from her lips with the back of her hand. I straighten my back and narrow my eyes on him for interrupting us.

He stands there, a to-go bag in his hand as his eyes dash back and forth between us. “I’m so sorry, Nick. I didn’t mean for tonight to go like this,” she says, and I refrain from rolling my eyes at him.

He drops the bag, and it hits the ground as he takes a step back. “You kissed your brother,” he says horrified.

Yeah, I forgot I had told him that. I snort, trying to hide my laughter, and her eyes narrow on me before they’re back on him. “I can see it looked that way, but that’s not what happened.”

Nick looks at me, and I lick my lips. Yep, hers were just on mine.

“Really?” Ashlyn snaps facing me. “Nick.” She turns back to face him.

He starts shaking his head real quick and then wipes his lips with the back of his hand. “You kissed your brother,” he says with disgust.

“We do more than just kiss,” I say with a cocky smile on my face.

He gasps at my words. “Nick, he’s joking ...” She takes a step toward him, and he takes a step back with his hands raised.

“I know what I saw,” he argues.

  “Nick, don’t ...”

“Good bye, Nick,” I say, interrupting her and raising my right hand and waving. Without another word, he turns and runs off into the crowd.

Ashlyn spins around to face me. “What the hell is wrong with you?” she demands. I laugh as I walk over to the bag of food he dropped. “I’m serious, Ryder.”

I approach the food and bend down to pick it up. “Hungry?” I ask with a smile. She narrows her eyes at me and places her hands on her hips.

I realize I fucked up when I didn’t let her explain the situation with Bradley. And I now know that my best friend is fucking my sister. Somehow, I have lost the ones that meant the most to me. I can only fix them one at a time, and I want to fix me and her first. This week without her has been hell.

I should be on my knees right now begging for forgiveness, but instead, all I can think of is how that dress is gonna look on my bedroom floor. How good those lips are gonna feel wrapped around my cock. And how heavy those blue eyes are gonna be when she looks up at me from when I watch her come.

“I’m no longer hungry,” she says flatly.

My eyes drop to her soft and creamy thighs, and I lick my lips. “I’m all of a sudden starving.”

“Well, you’re going to starve to death,” she spits out and then walks out from the alleyway and onto the sidewalk. Her eyes look me up and down with disgust as she passes me, and I can’t help the smirk that grows across my face.

“I’m not gonna play fair,” I warn her; the bracelet she returned to me sits in my pocket, and I pull it out with my free hand.

She comes to a stop and slowly turns to face me. Her raging blue eyes look at the bracelet and then to mine. “I’m not going to play at all.”

  We’ll see about that!
