  GLOSSARY

  Names

  Arcturas - Mishrathin of Haniang City. He trains James to open to the Light.

  DaNyang Lomas - Haniang City police officer and servant of Hanasan Hold who initially brings James to the Light.

  Dr. Chaek - Country doctor who took care of James.

  EeSuh - Servant who escorts James to see the Intercessor in the hold.

  Eshaiel - Guardian of the Southern Seas.

  GiSun - Servant from Hanasan Hold.

  Hyuk Bok – Father of Sunga Bok and owner of a small restaurant in the farming village of Ka-pyun.

  Intercessor (YaeSu)- Leader of the servants of Hanasan Hold.

  Jaeil - Guardian who schemed with an evil man to kill another guardian and try to fuze his spirit with the man to grant him eternal life. The plan failed and the man betrayed the guardian, who was jailed until he broke free and led the Dark in the first great war.

  James Huener - Young man living in Shinla as a foreigner. He is drawn to the light through a friend, Joe Senagi, and a police officer, DaNyang Lomas.

  Jehoshim - Guardian of the Southern Glades.

  Joe Senagi - James' only friend while working for Skyline. He is a servant.

  JoShia - Chief servant of Hanasan Hold.

  KaeLe - Chief servant of Hanasan Hold.

  Koo - Supposed servant brought to Hanasan by one of the chief servants. He acts as an assassin for his sponsor.

  Lee Sung - Servant mentioned once as the object of a painting in the Hall of Images.

  Mahae'el - Wisest and strongest of the guardians who led the creation of the Order of the Servants of the Light and forged unity between men and guardians to defeat the Dark in the first great war.

  Mi Lin - Tangsu woman who the Intercessor sent James to meet at the Haemol Restaurant.

  Qeter - Seirin assassin of the Dark who tried to kill James as he sat on his balcony.

  Rhesing - A chief servant with ulterior motives.

  Shin - Advisor to Minister Sun Daejune.

  Sun Daejune - Shinlan politician (Minister of Cooperation Between Joshin and Shinla).

  Sunga Bok – Young woman from the farming village of Ka-pyun who James meets on his journey.

  Yai Tzy - Politician in Tangsu who seeks power and is shrouded in mystery.

  YoonJi - Servant who is also a doctor in a university hospital.

  Places

  Andongni Hospital - Country hospital amidst the vast plains of Shinla.

  Chang Bok River - Runs through Haniang.

  Eldilan - Guardian name for their original home world.

  Haeboah Temple - Ancient buildings on the southern coast of Haniang where James meets Eshaiel.

  Haemol Restaurant - Seafood restaurant in Tangsu where James meets Mi Lin.

  Hall of Images - Small building in the Intercessor's complex at Hanasan Hold where paintings for each servant and guardian associated with the hold hang in darkness. They emit a strange glow, change slowly and often show mysterious symbols and indicators for future events.

  Hanasan Hold (formerly Bukha Temple)- Headquarters of the Order of the Servants of the Light in Shinla. Located on top of a tall mountain high above Haniang. It is only accessible by night and has a hold or fort built into the crevices of giant boulders that form the cap of the mountain.

  Haniang - Capital of Shinla.

  Hochon District - Part of Haniang where James' apartment (Silver Tower) is located.

  Joshin - Northern half of divided Tongil where the Dark reigns.

  Ka-pyun – Small farming town deep in the grain fields of Shinla’s plains region.

  Lozogn Market - Street market where James picked up some local drinks.

  Pungyan - Capital City of Joshin.

  Pungyan Fortress – Ruins of an old hold/academy of the Light in the hills outside Pungyan.

  Pungyan Nam Hold - Deserted hold in the east of Haniang.

  Shangtang-Gun Hold - Deserted hold in Tangsu.

  Shinla - Country where the story begins and homeland of the servants of Hanasan Hold. It was once part of Tongil before the country was divided by war into the northern Joshin and southern Shinla.

  Taepung Park - Haniang City park decorated for the Festival of Lights.

  Tangsu - Country north of Joshin which is heavily under the influence of the Dark, but slowly emerging from a worse period a few decades earlier.

  Toguya - Island country across the sea that long ago occupied Tongil. It is now is an ally to Shinla, but has fallen to the Darkness except for small pockets of secluded servants.

  Tongil - the old name of the country that divided to become Joshin and Shinla.

  Ulchiro Tailor - Storefront where James met DaNyang to find out more about the Light.

  Terms

  Cheeb - small cottage constructed in the traditional style used to house visitors to Hanasan Hold. They consist of one main room just big enough for sleeping, and an ante-room used for cooking, heating and bathing.

  Dedication of Lights - Late fall holiday to celebrate the Father of Lights and wishes for prosperity. It lasts a week. The first day is spent hanging lights, the sixth for gift giving, and the rest for feasting.

  Elohin - Name for the entire class of guardians, both light and dark.

  Guardians of Light - Creatures brought to this world by the Father of Lights to protect and guide its inhabitants. They are normally invisible, but can manifest and look like large, bright men. They carry shining swords called rhema.

  Malakin - Guardians who fight for the Light.

  Mishrathin - Guardian influencers of the Light often assigned to cities.

  Nefarin - Dark Guardians who were once Guardians of Light but turned evil. They cannot manifest in daylight, can possess dark humans and cannot be killed. If they are destroyed, they slowly re-manifest.

  Seirin- Dark assassin nefarin. They have a goat-like appearance with circular, sharp teethed mouths.

  Shedin - Dark Guardian influencers assigned to cities.

  Skyline Industries - Company where James worked.
