Gracie - Box Set #6, Part 2 of Ever After [an Egg and the Hameggattic Sisterhood novel] Page 44

by Robert Iannone

  “What’s going on?” asked someone.

“Oh, my. Oh, my,” cried Grammy. “It’s Egg. Something happened to Egg,” and she grabbed her husband’s hand and dragged him out of the room. With most still unsure what was going on, they all simply followed.

They reached Sylvia who was down on her knees hugging Benny and crying.

Rose pushed her way to the front, found the Medicus and demanded, “What has happened?” For a woman who never cried in public, her eyes were beginning to brim with tears.

The doctor was reluctant to have this discussion in the hall with so many people present – even if they were all related or Hameggattic Sisters. But he felt he had no choice. “Due to the fact that the children are from a union of two slightly different humanoid species, there was an unforeseen problem. The Queen lost a lot of blood. She requires a transfusion to survive but there are no donors on Aerianna. Her blood type is exceedingly rare.”

Sylvia looked up, choked back her crying and said “I have that. I have AB negative. That’s the rarest. Take my blood . . . hurry.” She stood and offered the man her arm as if he could take the blood right there and then.

“I am sorry, but yours is not the rarest. It is . . .”

Molly, who was near the back of the pack, interrupted the man. “RH – Null. RH – Null, that’s the rarest.”

Everyone turned to look at the woman.

“Lady Molly, our records show that you do not have that blood type.” Then he asked hopefully, “or am I incorrect?”

The others went deathly silent waiting for the answer. “I don’t,” and they all moaned. “But, my mom does.”

The doctor looked at an electronic pad he was carrying and punched in something. “She is not on file. We only have those at court listed.”

“Molly, would you be so kind and call your mother. Please?” asked Rose.

  A half day later

Egg opened her eyes for the first time since she gave birth. It took a minute for her to come to her senses and for her eyes to focus. A handsome blue face was staring down at her.

  “Welcome back,” he whispered.

“Where was I?” she asked teasingly.

  “We almost lost you.”

“What? The girls . . . how are the girls?”

“They’re fine. The nurse went to get them. Healthy and beautiful.”

“Oh. I had been so worried.” Then she realized what he had said. “Lost me, how?”

“You needed a blood transfusion but we thought there were no compatible earth donors on Aerianna. You have a very rare blood type.”

“Yeah. RH – null. Weird. So, what happened? Did Sparky brew up a batch in her lab?”

“No. We found a donor. Gracie, she saved your life and she’s waiting outside. May I bring her in?”

“Of course. But who is it?”

Benny didn’t answer. He walked to the door and opened it. And there was Jenny . . .

The woman, who was now in her late fifties, came in and went to Egg’s side.

  “Jenny.”

“It’s been too long.” As a recluse with Princess Ss’ong, Jenny never ventured to Q’umulus. She was content to live with her friend and simply enjoy her second chance at life on Aerianna.

“Thank you. You saved my life.”

Jenny bent over and hugged her friend, then kissed her cheek. “You once saved mine . . . and Molly’s. It seems like our lives have come full circle.”

“And are you happy with that life?”

“Egg, from the moment you and Sylvia brought us to Aerianna, I have never stopped smiling.”

“That seems like a life time ago.”

“Not to me. It seems like it was yesterday.”

After Jenny left, Benny told the nurse she could bring in the girls.

  “Gracie, may I present your daughters . . .”

Egg looked down at the bassinet and her two girls.

“Oh, my gosh. Oh, my gosh. They’re beautiful.”

“I might be a tad prejudiced, but I do agree.”

Egg kept staring at the two children, then turned to her husband and giggled. “That’s what the Tree meant. He said they were nearly identical twins.”

  “Clever, that Tree.”

She turned back to her sleeping daughters . . . content for the moment just to stare at them. “So, which one is Flying Girl?”

  “The blue one, of course.”

Egg reached out and gently touched each girl in turn. “Hey, Benny.”

  “Yes, my love?”

  “We did good, didn’t we?’

“I did the bare minimum. You, however, did very, very good.”

“That’s not true . . . you did the most important part.”

He wasn’t quite sure what she was referring to. “What would that be?”

“You made me fall in love with you.”

“I had no choice. When you kissed me on that trip to Sighing Whorl, I was honor bound to marry you,” he teased.

  “You’re such a goof.”

“No, I am a father, a husband and a much better man for having your love.”

“Kiss me, please,” and he did.

“Time to get some rest. I’ll leave the girls here with you.” He kissed her again then got up to leave.

  “Benny?”

  “Yes?”

“Do you think we’ll live happily ever after . . . like they do in fairy tales?”

He smiled. “Do you think your life has been a fairy tale?”

“Oh, my gosh . . . yes. Absolutely.”

“Then when it is published, I shall read the book. What title do you suppose it would have?”

“Hmmm. How about Family, Friends, Foes, and Flying Girl – An Epic Adventure? And, forget about the book; I’d wait for the movie.”

From Egg, Sylvia, K’ssss, Soo’, Bl’azzz, Aeri’elle, Sassi, Meggy, BreeZee, Spirit, Tee’ka, Serenity, Jax’x, I’za and yours truly

  . . . thank you for reading

  Egg and the Hameggattic Sisterhood

  Author’s Note

With this book, we come to the end of the journey for Egg and the Hameggattic Sisters. We have seen our heroine grow from that single-minded, overly-competitive nine-year-old to the twenty-five-year-old Queen of Aerianna.

However, there is some unfinished business that needs to be addressed. And, to that end, I have started a spin-off series titled . . .

  “Syl’kie and Ellie Rose”

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree and Egg’s daughters will stumble from one amazing adventure to the next. The first book is titled “P’yxx”.

Thank you for reading the saga of Egg and her sisters . . . and hopefully her children. If you enjoyed Egg’s story, please take a moment to write a review on Amazon. For independent authors like myself, we live and die by the stars . . . the ones you give us. Thank you.
