I managed to dig up some information on Fiona Jenkins the other day. I know you’d said to leave it alone, to leave it to police now, but it was bugging me still . . . her connection to all of this. It turns out that she had a few galleries both here and in the States.

Apparently she purchased and displayed some of Kelly’s work a couple of years back. It didn’t go down too well and she was up to her eyeballs in lawsuits . . . lost nearly everything. She was divorced and ditched. The Copinas completely cut her off.

But she still had a few pockets of money and her possessions. She was diagnosed with a nerve and muscle wasting disease back in February. Though, I don’t know how long she had been suffering.

Anyway, what I really wanted to ask was what you were doing for Christmas?

  See you soon.

  Christine

  Hi Christine

Yeah, I am pretty last minute when it comes down to stuff like this!

Shona is home for Christmas. She said she’s enjoying being at uni and the course is great. She seems a lot happier.

She said that just the fact that her letter of recommendation came from you scored her some instant and major bonus points with the psychology faculty!

Thanks again for all your help with that.

Well . . . for Christmas we were just going to do something quiet, but when I mentioned about your asking her to visit (and to visit Kelly) she started looking for hotels near to you. I think she’s going to call you. I gave her your number. Is that ok?

I’m glad you found some answers, but you need to put this to bed now. You’re doing what you can to help Kelly and that’s enough. Let it go.

I read in the paper that the hospital had a security scare last week. Is that true? Are your alright?

  Look after yourself.

  Love

  Jon.

  Hi Jon

No need for hotel. There’s plenty of room at mine. Seriously, I was thinking of renting out a couple of the rooms, it’s just depressing!

I did speak to Shona; we’ve got it all planned. You just need to pick her up tomorrow and get yourselves over to mine. It was nice to hear her voice again. I didn’t realise just how much I’ve missed the pair of you.

Yeah, there was a break-in on Kelly’s ward. The police think it was just some yobs or something looking to see what they could get away with.

It’s minimum security down there and the day room is pretty well fitted out. Most likely, they were after some new electrical goods. It’s always a bit dodgy around Christmas.

You still trying to protect me, eh?

I’m really looking forward to seeing you and Shona!

  Christine.

  Dear Dr Kane

I have left several messages with your office now and have had no response. I know you will be on Christmas leave now, but I think you should consider looking for some new admin staff in January.

I am only writing as you wished to be contacted in the event of any changes to the usual behaviour of the patient, Kelly Livingstone.

It is nothing drastic, but you stated that you wished to be informed and so I am informing you.

This last week Miss Livingstone has taken to ordering a bacon sandwich for her breakfast, rather than her usual cereal or porridge. She has also cancelled her order for Christmas dinner as she will now be spending the day, under supervision, with her father.

I would have liked to have consulted with you on this matter prior to its organisation and would have done had I been able to reach you, but a decision was necessary and time was short.

  Yours

  Dr O Kimbatu

  Dear Dr Kane

Apologies for the delay in my response. I believe you spoke to DS Coleridge on the phone.

At this moment we are unable to rule out the possibility that Miss Livingstone was forcefully taken from Appleby Ward on 25th December 2011. Though, evidence suggests that she may have gone along of her own volition.

We have confirmed with staff on duty that she was present for checks at 13:00 and that she was then escorted off the premises, but continued to be supervised by the two members of the security staff who followed her along to the house of the man then claiming to be her father.

We can now confirm the identity of that man as being Vincent Keating, and we believe that Miss Livingstone may have approached him once before. The address given as his home address was later found to be abandoned. It is at this address that the bodies of the two ward security staff were discovered.

If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of Miss Livingstone, please contact me immediately.

I know that you have worked with Miss Livingstone since before her incarceration and have a greater understanding of her than anyone else. I would really appreciate hearing anything you have to say on the matter.

  Thank you for your time.

  Yours

  DI Diane Stone.

  Dear Christine.

I had a good friend of mine hack into your email so that I might write to you just this once.

I want to tell you that Kelly is safe. She’s here with me and I promise I’ll take excellent care of her.

She wanted to thank you for your patience and for your trust, and for that kiss that she will never forget. She liked how you tasted.

  Spearmint and winter.

Take care now, Christine. And don’t come looking for me.

  I’m off out.

  . . . It’s time to play.
