“Wrong,” he said and forced her forward. “Deep breath, darlin’.”

She tried to turn her face but the pressure on the back of her neck was too much. She opened her mouth and took him deep. Too deep. Within seconds she was choking and gagging on his thick cock while he fisted her hair and held her tight. This time he used her face to stroke himself. She rolled her eyes up. His head was thrown back in ecstasy. Surprisingly, the sight of his pleasure turned her on when nothing about the fucked-up situation should. In fact, she was pretty sure she should be punching him in the dick and running as fast as she could for the highway. Yet the crotch of her leggings was soaked and a large part of her was hoping this would end in a colossal orgasm for her too.

He pulled back, allowing her enough space to take several gasping breaths. “Next question,” he growled, somewhat unsteadily while she wiped drool off her chin and chest. “I get the haircut. Hell, I can even admit it looks pretty damn good. But what the fuck is up with the body modifications? A belly piercing and a fucking tat, Lucy? Why the fuck would you go and do something like that? Tattoos are permanent.” He was yelling by the time he finished speaking and Lucy was flinching in his hold.

She stared up at him while he visibly struggled to contain his rage. She’d known he would be upset, but she hadn’t thought her actions would draw out this kind of a reaction. She didn’t understand why he was so angry. She just shook her head. She opened her mouth to answer him, but nothing came out. She had no real answer that could possibly satisfy this kind of blazing anger.

Finally, she whispered, “B-because I could. Because I wanted it.” Then she sniffed back the tears, toughened herself up as much as she could under the circumstances, met his eyes and said, “Because this is my body and I can do whatever I want with it.”

“Wrong,” he snarled and shoved his cock so far down her throat she began choking immediately. Tears pooled in her eyes and spilled over. She whimpered and shoved against him, but instead of letting her up he pulled her closer, hunching over her and whispering in her ear. “Every part of you belongs to me. I’ll make sure you remember that before we’re done here.”

Just when she was sure she was going to pass out he released her. She tried to crawl backwards, away from him, but he followed her down, straddling her on the floor, trapping her. She cried out and braced herself against his chest wondering what kind of hell he was going to put her through now and why her body always reacted so quickly to him.

“Last question, Lucy,” he told her, nuzzling her ear gently, while his hands pinned her to the floor.

“Please, Mack,” she begged, her breaths coming out in sobs. “Stop!”

He ignored her plea. “Tell me why you pursued me? Why you followed me out here, why you allowed my touch?” he demanded. “Why you’ve never called in the Russians to kill my ass. We both know you could and you probably should. So why not take the only way out that’s open to you? Because I’m telling you right now, baby, that’s the only way I’m letting you go now. Over my dead body.”

She shuddered and turned her face away from him, refusing to answer. Then cried out when he flipped her over on her hands and knees. He tore the leggings and panties free from her body. She was definitely wet for him, but still unprepared when he slammed full length into her from behind. She screamed, pain and pleasure merging as he filled her completely. Her scream turned into a moan when all he did was hold her body tight against him. Then he reached for the collar of her T-shirt and tore it down the front. He yanked her bra down until her breasts spilled into his hands.

“Tell me,” he demanded again. “Why did you come after me, Lucy? Why did you start all this? You knew I was dangerous. Knew I would treat you like shit.”

She moaned again and wiggled her ass against him, loving the feel of his hard body pressed against her back. “Because,” she said breathlessly, “I wanted you. Ever since you kissed me back home all those months ago… I couldn’t stop thinking about you. I was obsessed.”

He pushed her forward until her hands slapped against the floor, gripped her hips and began fucking her hard from behind. She gritted her teeth and took the bone-jarring thrusts, accepting the pain even as her body began to vibrate with the pleasure of an impending orgasm.

“Now how… do you feel,” he growled between thrusts.

“Regret!” she told him, turning her head to glare.

  “Why?” he demanded.

“Ahhh,” she squeezed her eyes shut and hung her head, her hair a wild tangle around her head. “Because I have to leave, Mack. This isn’t healthy. We’ll kill each other.”

He gripped her hair and yanked her head back, fucking her even harder if that were possible. “Never!” he snarled in her ear right before he sent her flying into an orgasm so high she shrieked from it. He joined her immediately after, gripping her shoulder and pinning her to the ground while he emptied himself deep inside her, taking his pleasure and stealing another piece of her soul as he said, “I’m never letting you go, Lucy.”

  Chapter Seventeen

“Okay Mack, what the hell?” Lucy said, turning underneath him so she could glare at him in outrage. “What’s your damage? No one your age gives two pennies about the type of body modifications I got. Seriously, not even my dad would care this much and, hello, Amish?”

Mack growled and rolled off her. He shoved a hand through his hair, tousling it up. Lucy sighed a little. She both loved and hated when he did that. Disheveled just looked so damn good on him. It got her every time. Spiky Mack hair was fast becoming her kryptonite.

“I shouldn’t care this much,” he finally said.

Lucy’s jaw nearly dropped. He was agreeing with her? She cautiously snuggled into his side, reaching for a blanket from the chest beside the couch and pulling it over them.

“Then why do you care?” she asked. “Because seriously, Mack, I didn’t get the tattoo or the piercing to upset you. I got them because I wanted them. They both felt right to me. Like they should be a part of me.”

He eyed her, unconvinced, but then said, “My ex-wife was an anchorwoman for the local TV station.”

“Wh-what?” Lucy was completely unprepared for the change in topic or the bomb about his ex-wife two minutes after he’d been inside her.

He nodded. “We met when she was doing a story about the military. I was a sharpshooter. I still take the occasional commission when they need someone. I’m one of the best long shots in the world.” The way he told her was matter-of-fact, not boastful. She didn’t mention that Abel had already told her as much. “We ended up getting married just a few months after we met. I was about to be deployed and she didn’t want to stay behind at her place. So, I set her up in mine.”

Lucy felt a pang in her heart. She didn’t want to hear all this stuff about another woman. Was this what jealousy felt like? Wanting to murder the other woman who had his heart first? Because if that was so, then jealousy was a very uncomfortable emotion. Instead of screaming bloody murder and demanding the hussy’s address so she could immediately scratch her eyeballs out and set the Russians on her ass, Lucy asked in a very mature voice, “What happened? Why didn’t it work out?”

Mack’s grip around her shoulders hardened until she was forced to snuggle even closer or risk having her bones snapped. She didn’t think he even realized as he drifted back into memories she was sure were painful for him. “She jumped into bed with pretty much any guy that could give her career a boost every time I went overseas, which was every other month. She played happy Suzie homemaker when I was home. Kept me thinking we had a good thing going while she climbed the ladder at work, but the second my boots left the continent she was fucking her way to the top of her game.”

“I’m so sorry,” Lucy whispered against his chest.

He must have realized he was crushing her because he shifted them both until he was sitting up with his back against the couch. He zipped his jeans but left them unbuttoned then settled Lucy between his outstretched legs wi
th the blanket wrapped around her naked body.

“Daniella and I were together for two years before I found out about her cheating. She finally told me herself because I was too dense to see it.”

“You loved her,” Lucy said softly. “I guess maybe a man in love doesn’t want to see that kind of flaw in the woman who promised him fidelity.”

He laughed bitterly. “I never loved that bitch. Just enjoyed fucking her when I came home. Easy on the eyes, uninhibited and beyond skilled. Otherwise she was high-fucking-maintenance in every sense of the word. She had a thirst for expensive shit I couldn’t provide. I took on extra jobs, high-paying, outside of military approval just to pay for the things she wanted. Felt like it was my job to keep her in style even though it was only a matter of months into the marriage before I started wanting to but a bullet in her and bury her in a shallow grave. She irritated the fuck out of me.”

Lucy laughed a little and shook her head. “Okay, so she left you eventually. Why weren’t you relieved? Why such a monster now when it comes to me?”

He chuckled and stroked her cheek with his thumb then wrapped his arms around her, holding her close as if needing the comfort of her body against his. She closed her eyes and inhaled his scent, taking him deep. She loved the way Mack smelled. He was everything sexy, masculine and solid to her, despite his possessiveness.

“Found out she was pregnant,” he murmured against her head. “She’d been banging one of my buddies at the base too and he found out. She was positive it was mine and spilled the beans to him during one of their fuck sessions. It was bros before hos on that one. He came to me hat in hand and told me everything.” Mack grunted in disgust. “I already knew about the other men but didn’t know one of my own was dipping his cock in my home base.”

“What did you do?” Lucy asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

“Beat the shit out of that motherfucker, put a bullet through his trigger hand and warned him never to darken my door again,” Mack told her, his voice hardening. “Military gave me a dishonourable discharge.” He shrugged, uncaring. “Went to find Daniella, but she’d already aborted the baby. She couldn’t have a misshapen body ruining her rising star. She was going places, didn’t want the baggage of a child slowing her down either.”

Lucy held her breath for a moment and then let it out in a slow sigh. “Is that why you need to control me so badly? You’re afraid of what will happen if I go off on my own and make my own decisions.”

He tipped her head back into the crook of his arm and looked down at her. He traced one long, broad finger over her eyebrow then her lips. “No… maybe,” he growled in acknowledgment. “Fuck, I don’t know, Lucy. All I do know is that I want you with me all the time. I hate when you take off and I want to punish your ass when you act like a brat, mouthing off to me. Has nothing to do with my ex-wife and everything to do with you and me. You’re a goddamn handful, baby.”

She grinned up at him and snapped playfully at his thumb, which was lightly tracing a path around her lips. Then she licked him and gently sucked him into her mouth, curling her tongue around his thumb and taking him deep.

“Fuck…” he groaned, his eyes narrowing. “Want to fuck the bad right out of you.”

She reached up to hold his wrist and began licking and sucking him in earnest, playing until she felt him growing hard underneath her. She fully intended to take advantage of the massive erection making itself known… until the name and career path of his ex-wife clicked.

“Daniella Currie!” she gasped, shoving his hand away from her mouth. Her eyes widened in sudden comprehension, then narrowed in dismay. “Your ex-wife is the Daniella Currie from channel 6 anchor news? Mack! She didn’t just climb that ladder, she scaled it to the top. She’s about two steps away from being a White House correspondent!”

Lucy scrambled backwards, her face taking on a panicked ‘holy-shit-I’m-completely-overshadowed-by-his-ex’ look. Devastation reigned supreme as she leapt to her feet and began pacing, the blanket firmly clutched between her breasts. “Daniella Currie is tall, statuesque, blonde. She has big boobs, big fingernails, big blue eyes, bigger blonder hair and a huge, huge personality that sucks in an entire state every night from 6-6:30pm.”

His lips twitched as he looked up at her. “I’m aware of what she looks like, baby. I was married to her for two years.”

“Don’t you patronize me!” Lucy snapped standing over him and giving him her best angry finger shake.

Mack was about to open his mouth and say something that would surely get him either kicked in the junk or knocked unconscious with the nearest object not nailed down when his phone alerted him to an incoming text. He dove for it, grabbing it with much less finesse than usual. He read the text and held it up for her to see. “Bond jumper’s been spotted by a contact. Gotta go now, babe.”

She watched stiffly through narrowed eyes as he reached for his T-shirt and kissed her on the head before flying out the front door and locking it behind him. She collapsed back on the couch with a sigh and rubbed a hand over her face with a groan. Well that was one way to deflect his anger, throw a jealous fit.

“But seriously,” she said out loud throwing her hands up. “Daniella fucking Currie!”

  Chapter Eighteen

Mack stood in the shadows of a cold, dirty as fuck alley waiting for his perp to show for a deal that wasn’t going to go down the way Backer was hoping. In fact, there was no deal. Mack’s contact had set the thing up so the hunter could get his hands on his bounty, make a little cash and get back home to his warm, hopefully willing woman. He had some trouble not grinning to himself as he pictured Lucy standing over him in a rage when she realized who his ex-wife was. It was one of the most perfect moments he’d ever experienced. It took the bite out of his bitter divorce.

Not that Mack gave two shits about Daniella. He’d been telling the truth when he told Lucy he never loved the power-hungry bitch. What had hurt was that he never even got a chance to know his kid. Or make the decision to abort or keep it. He’d been cut out completely. The same as his mom had done time and again when he and Tawny were kids. He should have learned his lesson years earlier instead of letting himself be taken in again by another treacherous woman.

Yet, he wasn’t a stupid guy. He knew Lucy was different. Knew she wasn’t anything like his mother or his ex-wife; she was kind and giving. He knew she would never cheat on him or throw him over for money and power. Hell, if she’d wanted money she could have easily stayed in her brother-in-law’s mansion, put her feet up and enjoyed her year in the city in grand style. Instead, she wanted to get out there and explore the world, experience everything on her own. And he loved that about her. Despite her firecracker personality, which was, if he was being honest, a complete turn on. He was unlikely to ever become bored with his carefree, spirited little waitress. They just needed to find a way through her stubborn independence and his need to put her on lockdown and throw away the key.

Mack’s attention sharpened when he heard the clatter of shoes against pavement. Backer was striding toward him, his walk arrogant and sure. Mack cracked his neck to the side and eased the safety off his sidearm just in case. He’d never liked this particular perp. Wasn’t going to make anyone cry if Backer bit the big one tonight.

As soon as he was level with him, Mack stepped out from behind the dumpster and put the smaller man in a quick body lock, taking him down to the pavement with a knee in his back. The other man grunted and squealed and tried to wriggle free but couldn’t even manage to put up a decent fight. Mack sighed in disgust and told the guy why he was being apprehended. Due diligence was key.

  “Man, fuck you,” Backer spat.

Mack shoved Backer into the sidewalk and stood with his foot on the man’s neck. He pulled his gun and trained on his forehead. As usual, the suspect was spouting off. Mack ignored him. He wanted to waste as little time as possible in that dirty alley. He was ready to get back to the warm female waiting for him at his place. I
t had been a long fucking time since he’d been excited by the thought of a woman in his home and he wasn’t about to let a perp keep him from the sexy Amish woman he had every intention of corrupting the hell out of.

And then the perp said something that caught his attention. “I’ll fucking kill everyone you know the second I get out, you motherfucking cop’s bitch.”

Mack glanced down dispassionately and ground his boot a little harder into the Backer’s neck. “Yeah? Keep talking Backer. I’ll make sure you get tossed in with the Delgado gang. I heard they’ve been feeling lonely for some fresh ass lately.”

The bond jumper spat blood and snarled, “You got a girlfriend, Hudson?” His eyes rolled up to Mack’s face. “Yeah, I know who you are, bounty hunter. You got a sweet thing waitin’ to serve you some pussy? You think you’re the only one can hunt? I’ll find your bitch and I’ll tear her a new asshole, how ‘bout?”

Mack fought to keep his expression neutral. This was business. Shit talk was part of apprehension. Criminals almost never came quiet. Now that Lucy was in his life he couldn’t let it bother him. But he also wouldn’t let the criminal underworld think they could touch what belonged to him. If that meant cutting a bloody path through the city to send a message, he damn certain would.

He did think it was fair to give the guy a warning though. “You’re going to want to stop talking now.”

Mack reached into his pocket, pulled out his phone with his free hand while keeping his gun trained on Backer’s head with the other. He flipped through the perp’s file just to make sure he was correct in his information while the guy kept up a steady stream of shit talk. Mack nodded, pleased at what he saw and put his phone back in his pocket.
