Nora swallowed a lump in her throat, “I need a ride,” is all she could manage to say.
Jayce nodded and headed out the back door.
As she slipped out the back door, she took one last look at their quaint, Spanish villa home from the marbled stones that lead to the fence line. For the sake of her sanity, she opted to not keep the house in her name. She turned to close the gate, eyeing the setting sun, and climbed into the black and white Dodge Charger, L.A.P.D. written boldly across the side.
Jayce inched the patrol car in reverse, pulling out of the driveway, and then started down the barren ally.
“You’re right,” Jayce began, his voice cracking.
Nora glanced at him skeptically.
He cleared his throat before continuing, “This should end. It was selfish of me to bring you into this relationship. I tried to stop myself but I was in love.”
Nora was flabbergasted by his confession. “Selfish?” she whispered.
After a moment of silence, she prodded more.“Now that we’re finally talking, maybe you can tell me what’s been bothering you?”
“It was just a mistake. Drop it.”
Nora’s jaw dropped. “What an insensitive thing to say!”
“Insensitive? I’m being honest. Isn’t that what you wanted?”
Nora yanked the wedding band off her finger and chucked it at the floor mats. “Thank you for your honesty. I’m pleased.”
Jayce warily regarded the gleaming band.
“Go faster,” Nora demanded.
“Nope. Ten MPH here, “Jayce retorted.
Nora groaned, throwing her head back into the seat.
“Add that to the list of reasons not to be involved with a police officer,” he said gravely.
“You think there’s a list?” she shrilled. “People marry police officers all the time, Jayce,”
He put the car in park and grabbed a handful of his golden waves and clutched his forehead.
“I watched my own mother suffer the pain over my father’s countless injuries, then eventually his death.” He pressed his forehead onto the wheel.
Nora was absolutely astonished from his revelation of stirring emotions, so much that she found it difficult to contain her own. She chewed on her finger as she leaned against the window, contemplating her final decision. This is the moment she’s waited over a year for. Can this all be fixed?
Making up her mind, she began softly, “Don’t you think I knew what I was signing up for before we got married? I knew of the dangers that lurk, hell, I was there for your first! But I was willing to risk all of that knowing you wouldn’t be going through this career alone. You deserve someone to stay by your side; I wanted to be that woman.” Nora folded her naked hands, regret filling within her as she eyed the abandoned ring. “You’re the strongest, most compassionate man I’ve ever met. I’d be lying if I told you I didn’t want to make this work.”
Their eyes met.
Despite the sadness she now knew he felt, his battle to keep pride in his manliness was obvious; his eyes gleamed with threatening tears.
Men.
His mouth moved wordlessly, as if searching for words, then in a more gentle tone, he crooned, “I can’t let you deal with another hospital incident. Especially after all these years. What if we have kids, they could end up fatherless and--”
“If you stop thinking about all the bad things that could happen, we can live a happy life and make great things happen.”
Jayce swallowed, taking in her determined intent.
Nora was taken by surprise as he quickly leaned over, lifted his trembling hand and pulled her in for a longing, dearly missed, feverish kiss. It all happened so fast. The spontaneous thrill swamped her body with warmth and eagerness, regenerating the earlier fantasy, reminding her of the comfort she missed. How she missed the taste of his sweet lips against her own.
“Nora,” he said pulling away and grazed a thumb down her neck. “I’m sorry I’ve been such an idiot.”
Tears exploded. There was no more lying to herself. She needed him. All of him. She closed the console laptop and climbed over to straddle him.
He lowered a smooth hand and caressed the skin beneath her skirt; another pulled her small frame tightly against him by the base of her spine.
She fingered through the stubble of his squared jaw, inhaling every kiss.
“Should we go back inside?” he asked between kisses.
Nora shook her head and bent back to pull the latch under the seat. Jayce took the hint and pushed with his legs to rear the seat while fumbling with the side latch, leaning back. She took advantage of the extra space and unhooked his belt. She unlatched a series of clips at the top of the zipper, and then tugged at that, too. She untucked his shirt and pulled out his ready shaft impatiently in her hand, rubbing the tip with the base of her thumb.
Jayce made a pleasurable moan, leaned forward and slid a brawny arm under her rear, lifting her up and pushing her panties to the side. With one rapid drive, he fulfilled her panging desire.
Nora cried out in a sigh of relief. Every happy memory flooded by in a series of images within her minds-eye. All the anger, the sadness, and confusion swept away with every thrust. Like a caged bird finally free to spread its wings, her heart soared and took liberty of setting the speed.
She whimpered, overwhelmed by her senses, his piney scent like a drug.
She needed more.
She began to tear away at his buttons and slipped a hand below his undershirt, dragging her fingers against his heaving, solid, chest-- elated as she felt his muscles tensing beneath her touch.
Satisfied by the connection of their heated touch, she cried shrilling sounds of joy. His grip stabbed into her waist in response. She welcomed the pain and leaned forward to sink her teeth into the fleshy base of his neck. His sounds of approval drove her mad.
She laid back into the steering wheel, relying on the power of her legs to keep the thrusting deep.
The horn blared with every movement as her hips danced rhythmically back and forth, she let a giggle escape momentarily at the ridiculousness, and Jayce’s lips curled into that wicked smile of his. Stunned by his beauty once again, Nora lost all sense of self-control and deepened their pulsing.
Jayce clutched each cheek of her ass tightly, pulling her up and down--deeper and harder each landing. Nora dug her nails into his smooth chest and sensed the vibration of a growl deep inside him.
“Let it out, honey,” Nora breathed into his ear.
He moaned a harmonious sound, orchestrating his climax. His cry of satisfaction emboldening her, she threw her head back, banging it against the siren switch, singing her own song of release, encored by the flashing of red and blue lights bouncing off the walls in the dark alleyway. Jayce buried his face and laughed into her neck.
He pulled back slightly, smiling mischievously, “Always making life interesting.”
Nora squinched her nose and coyly punched him on his rock hard shoulder. “We make quite the team, really,” she said, voice raspy, and leaned in for another kiss, wrapping her arms lovingly around her husband.
The sound of metal garbage cans that scraped across concrete sent Nora into a panicked flurry back to the passenger seat.
Jayce stretched to switch off the siren and lights, and spotted an older male chucking a black bag in a can. The man peered over the rims of his glasses and waved a hand before walking back inside.
“We better get moving before Gramps over there goes lucid,” Nora said with a chuckle.
Jayce exchanged quizzical glances from the end of the alley to Nora’s curious face.
“Oh,” she pouted, and nervously asked, “Where do we go from here?”
Without a word, Jayce leaned over the console, reaching for the passenger floorboard.
Nora’s mouth grew dry as she eyed the ring in his offering palm.
“Well,” Jayce began, wearing a shy smile, “I’m pretty sure we have what it takes to make this last, esp
ecially with everything said now.”
Nora nodded, biting her lip.
“So what do you think?” Jayce asked.
Nora lifted up slightly, reaching under her bottom and retrieved the divorce papers.
She kept eye contact with him teasingly, as she slipped the papers out from the envelope.
Jayce’s Adam’s apple bobbed up and down nervously. Nora flashed an impish smile and tore the papers straight down the middle. Jayce’s sigh of relief filled her with glee, how she loved to see him happy.
“We can do this,” she stated certainly.
Jayce took her hand, slipped the ring back home on her finger, and they shared an adoring smile. Nora took a deep breath, and with tears in her eyes, she whispered, “Let’s go home.”
The End
