AH: If you see a Paranormal down below, wherever you are, don't be afraid of us.
VS: Read the fucking book, things get… interesting, to say the least.
AD: Love your family and friends so much that you annoy them with your affections.
KJ: And enjoy the book. *Kai smiles*
CM: Thanks so much for sitting down with me and the readers, but I think you should get back to your homework.
VS: Are you sure you haven't got any more questions for us? *Vincent pleads, trying to get out of having to do said homework*
CM: Nope. *I laugh*
VS: Women are evil. *Vincent sighs, but stands to leave Ariana and Anna's dorm with Kai to study*
KJ: Thanks for having us. *Kai calls back, dragging a sulking Vincent with him as he leaves, and gestures to Ariana, signaling he’ll text her soon*
AH: Thanks, ClareMarie. Shit’s been real.
AD: It's been fun, so thanks.
*I leave the dorm*
Secret Scene
A week after the visit from The Angel of Destiny, I enter the bridge across from the waterfalls to meet my parents, Abby and Austin. I told them last night what was going on and what's going to happen in the future. I mentioned the suggestion from the angel to have a secret guarded location near the academy, and they told me to meet them here at six am.
“Hey Mom, Dad,” I say, reaching them and receiving big hugs in return.
“Hello, my girl, I’ve missed you,” my mother tells me.
“I’ve missed you too,” I say honestly.
“Your mother and I have been up all night, thinking of what to do with this secret space you need,” Dad states.
My dad has a six-foot frame, with the smallest beer belly he still had, before he stopped aging at fifty a very long time ago. Dad still looks like he’s in his thirties, and forever will. He has the warmest blue eyes and black hair like me, and he always has a faint scent of tobacco, as he smokes occasionally. My mom is a ray of sunshine is her flowy dresses and always smells like flowers from working in her garden. Mom, too, has the kindest blue eyes and shoulder-length black hair, that she always leaves down, it seems. These looks run in the family, due to our Paranormal genes. Mom is the shortest of us and will permanently appear to be in her twenties, which is strange to view an authority figure so young in appearance.
“So why are we here?” I ask, looking around.
“Because your father and I have come up with a better idea than to have wards around the academy.”
“I'm listening.”
“I can use my air magic to open a chasm. We’ll push all the water to either side to make a walkway, allowing your mother and I to create underground chambers for you.”
“That sounds… amazing, but how will me and my friends get into the chambers without you pushing the water away?” I ask, puzzled.
“A teleportation spell. Your mother and I will join our magic together. Me, for the air element, to allow your body to move through air for teleportation, provide oxygen in the chambers to breathe, and to give your mother access to the river’s rock bed.”
“And I will create the chambers,” mom finishes.
"This way, you don't need to have wards around the academy's grounds, because someone will eventually see through the glamor and investigate. If it leads back to you and the unlicensed magic used on the grounds, it will cause problems, and many will wonder why you warded parts of PSA,” Dad explains, and he isn't wrong.
“This can be more than a secret place to talk with Anna and Vincent without getting caught. It can also be a hideout if you're discovered, somewhere safe you can teleport to, that only we and your trusted friends know about,” Mom adds.
“You said the Angel of Destiny will bestow Ava with gifts to help her fight. Let's hope one of them is teleportation… she wouldn't need a spell to get here then,” Dad jokes, trying to give the situation some humor, and I love him for it.
“You can teach Ava about this secret place and the spell to get here,” Mom says, watching the waterfall with a worried frown.
“Oh, my God, yes. I could teach her, if she ever feels scared, to say the words of the spell, and she’ll go to a safe place where I’ll meet her,” I reply excitedly, feeling for the first time like I could actually protect my daughter from the dangers to come.
“Let's begin this then,” Dad says, seeing my renewed hope.
“I’ve already warded this area for our meeting today, so anyone walking by won't see or hear anything we do here,” Mom tells me as Dad closes his eyes and uses his hands to help guide him in pulling the water apart.
Mom takes over, also closing her eyes and snapping her fingers. Red wisps of magic leave her finger tips as she does, signaling the creation of the chambers and the amount of magic she's wielding.
There's a shake in the ground, almost like an earthquake. She rushes to explain that no one felt it but us inside the wards. It's simply her magic at work, moving rocks for the chambers.
While she and Dad are busy with those preparations, I decide to work on the spell. It needs to be something short and easy, to be able to teach Ava as soon as she can understand words.
