It was hard to imagine that this would ever happen, with a man that I thought I would never see again. Yet here we were, lying in bed and going down on one another.

The messy and wet sounds of our mouths on each other filled the room. The chorus of ecstasy was nothing I’d ever dreamed of. I wanted to experience this for as long as I could.

But Hunter had other ideas. He pulled away from me and laid on his back. He was so strong that he could pick me up even while lying on his side. I laughed as I was forced to straddle him.

The light coming from outside was enough to see all of him. Hard muscles on his chest down to that six-pack of his. Biceps and forearms that were so hard you could see the veins and striations on them. Even lying down, he looked so powerful.

The intensity of his stare hadn’t gone away. He looked at me, his eyes unblinking and the rest of his body motionless except for his chest rising and falling as he breathed.

“I’ve waited a long time for this,” he said.

  “I know…”

I knew. I’d known for years now. Tonight was different from the previous night. This wasn’t just a sudden burst of emotions from seeing each other again. This was something deeper. A desire that was burning inside of us that neither one of us could deny.

I sat up just enough to position his cock at my folds. I kept my eyes locked on his as I lowered myself down on him. Every inch that disappeared inside of me forced my eyes to close. My mouth hung open. A deep sigh got caught in my throat but finally forced its way out.

  “…Fuck!”

Curse words my ex-boyfriend could never make me yell. It was like Hunter’s dick pushed everything out of me completely because of how big he was.

I squeezed my thighs around his waist as I started to grind on him. Up and down, I moved in a slow rhythm. The throb of his cock. The wetness dripping out of me. His muscles tensing underneath me. The blood rushing through my veins. I wanted to feel everything.

Hunter reached up and squeezed my breasts. His powerful grip held me in place as he started to move his hips. I would’ve been just fine moving at my own pace but Hunter was taking control even though I was on top of him.

He rifled his hips up to the point that I was at his mercy once again. My head rocked back and my face pointed toward the ceiling. My back arched. He lowered his hands down to my waist to stop me from falling back completely.

  “Oh… Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!”

Curse words I never would’ve said anywhere else kept streaming out of me. Damn he felt so good… so damn good…

His hilt slammed against my ass. He slapped his body so loud that I wouldn’t have been surprised if someone else heard. He tightened his grip on my waist. My breasts bounced up and down to the hard and violent rhythm.

I’d had sex before with one other man. But that’s all it was. Sex.

This… This was different. Hunter and I weren’t having sex. Hunter was fucking me.

  “Hunter… I… I can’t…”

I pleaded with him, unable to hold back much longer. My whole body was on the verge of collapsing. Everything inside of me was on fire. The pleasure was just over the edge.

I reached down and rubbed my clit as he kept pounding me. He slammed his cock into me, rocking the bed so violently that I thought it would break. I didn’t care. I wanted it. I wanted it more than anything.

  “Hunter… I’m gonna… I…”

  I couldn’t finish.

My orgasm slammed into me and cut me off. I squeezed my thighs against his sides. My breath stopped. My heart beat hard in my chest. All of the pleasure washed over me and pulled an unintelligible groan out of me.

Wonderful waves of pleasure spread from my core and surged through the rest of me. The warm feeling blanked my senses. It was like existing in a state of pure ecstasy.

The only thing I could feel was him. His cock throbbing against my insides, filling me with his cum. His hands gripping my waist so hard that there would be marks in the morning. His grunts echoing through the room.

Hunter made me come so damn hard that I thought I was on the verge of death. I almost wanted it to end because it was too much for me to handle.

I slowly started to come down from my climax. An act of mercy on my body. I trembled slightly with tiny jolts of electricity finishing their way through me.

My senses returned to me and I realized where I was. Straddling Hunter with his cock planted firmly inside of me.

I blinked my eyes to clear my vision. Hunter stared at me intensely. The ink on his hard, sweating body glistened underneath the moonlight. I’d seen him shirtless before but having him so close was different. I could see all of him. It made me regret all the years I’d missed with him.

I hopped off of him and collapsed on the bed next to him. He smirked at me and I couldn’t help but laugh. My cheeks were already red even though he hadn’t said anything. I’d known Hunter for too long. I already knew what the hell he was thinking.

  “Don’t say it—”

“You look like you enjoyed yourself there,” he interrupted me.

He chuckled at me as he reached forward and gently pinched my nipple. I slapped his hand away and rolled my eyes.

“Everything’s a joke to you,” I sighed. “Even sex.”

“Sex isn’t a joke. Believe me, it’s not. I just think you’re cute when you’ve got that orgasmic afterglow.”

I shut my eyes but that didn’t stop my cheeks from reddening even more. I clenched my jaw and gathered myself before opening my eyes again.

“Hey,” I said. “There’s something I needed to tell you.”

  “There is?”

I sat up straight and he did the same.

  Remember why you’re here…

Sleeping with Hunter seemed to have sobered me up. I regained my focus.

“It’s Alvarez,” I said. “He wanted to see you again.”

  “And why’s that?”

“He’s not too happy that he lost to you. He’s eager to get his money back.”

“Does the casino do that with everybody? Somebody has to walk away a winner sometimes.”

“I know… It’s just… This is another opportunity for you. A chance to make even more money. You can beat him again, can’t you?”

Hunter looked away from me but he only had to think about it for a second.

“I can’t turn down more money,” he said. “Not when I need it…”

  “You need money?”

He looked back at me and smiled.

“It’s nothing you need to worry about,” he said. “I’ll head back to Eden and see Alvarez.”

He leaned forward and kissed me.

“Let’s not talk about him,” he whispered. “Let’s just enjoy this. Tonight.”

  “I think I need a break.”

Hunter gave me a grin that was so sly that I couldn’t help but bite my lip.

“I thought you said he gave you a few days off,” he said.

  “…He did. Why?”

  “Because you’re gonna need ‘em.”

  Chapter 10

  FAYE

It was rare that Alvarez gave me some time to myself. The man needed me by his side often to get things done. Even though he liked to indulge himself, he was always making sure that things were done to keep his indulgences coming. That meant I had to be there to make sure his schedule was in order and he didn’t have to waste time on the trivial details of the day.

I couldn’t spend all my time gallivanting with Hunter though. It was obvious he was up to something. Even though we’d been together for two nights now, the sex had given me much more insight into whatever it was he was up to.

I didn’t mind though. Time away from Alvarez and Hunter meant I could deal with what was most important to me…

As I sat at her bedside, I couldn’t help but notice how peaceful she looked while she rested. She blinked her eyes open.

“Hey,” I whispered. “How are you feeling?”

  She slowly
turned her head toward me and smiled softly. Seeing that look on her face never failed to make me do the same.

“Faye. What are you doing here?”

“What do you think I’m doing here?” I said with a laugh. “I’m here to see you, silly. Look… I brought something for you.”

I reached into my bag and pulled it out. Her eyes widened as soon as she saw it.

  “Is that…”

“It is,” I said, unable to contain my laughter. “Cake batter cookie dough.”

  “Gimme, gimme, gimme!”

She reached her hands out with a sudden burst of energy. I put the small pint in her hands and she tugged the lid off. She dug her spoon into the ice cream and shoveled a heaping spoonful into her mouth. Her eyes closed for just a moment to savor the taste.

  “Mmm… It’s so freakin’ good.”

Seeing the smile on my sister’s face almost made me forget about everything. I almost didn’t want to distract her with the reality of the situation.

“How are you doing?” I asked.

  “I’m okay,” she said with a shrug. “I guess…”

“You have a lot of things to do? Are you still bored?”

“I’m still bored. But I’ve got TV and they let me stay up late to watch.”

“Don’t stay up too late now.”

“Oh, come on, sis. Just let me have some fun, will ya?”

  “Okay, okay.”

She smiled at me with her mouth full of ice cream.

“I didn’t bring you anything else,” I said. “I wasn’t even supposed to bring that for you.”

“I know. The nurses say I can’t have too much ice cream. And when they do give it to me, it’s always just plain vanilla. I get kinda tired of it…”

“Well… I’m glad you’re enjoying that. Make sure you savor every bite of it.”

“I will. I’m going to lick this thing clean. Maybe you can stop by tomorrow and bring me some more.”

  “Tomorrow…”

I looked down at the ground, already knowing what the answer was.

“…Ally, I… I have to go back to work. You know that.”

  “Yeah,” she sighed. “I know…”

Another bite of ice cream wasn’t enough to wipe the disappointment from her face. I felt the same as her. But I was more than a decade older than her, so I couldn’t let it show.

  “Sis?” she said.

  “Yeah?”

“How much longer am I gonna have to stay here?”

I swallowed to stop my emotions from getting the best of me.

“Not much longer,” I said. “I promise.”

A sudden knock at the door stopped things from getting any worse for me.

  “Oh, look who it is.”

I turned to the voice and saw the older man walk in with a smile on his face.

“Hello, Faye,” he said. “I wasn’t expecting to see you today.”

“Dr. Johnson,” I replied. “I had a day off. I thought would stop by and say hello to my sister.”

“It appears you did more than say hello.”

He eyeballed the pint of ice cream in Alice’s hands. My sister’s eyes widened like she was in serious trouble but she was still smiling. Dr. Johnson chuckled softly at her.

“It’s all right,” he said. “Some sweets every now and then can be a good thing. You need to keep your spirits up.”

“The doctor says I’m doing better,” Alice said.

  “Is that right?” I asked.

Dr. Johnson gave me a nod and smiled.

“Alice here has a lot of energy. That’s a good sign.”

“It won’t be much longer until I’m out of here,” Alice added.

“That’s good to hear,” I said.

“I just wanted to check on Alice here and make sure that she was all right. Since you’re already here, Faye, I was wondering if I could have a word with you.”

  “Of course, doctor.”

“Don’t tell her not to bring me ice cream,” Alice said as we left the room.

I left Alice’s hospital room with the doctor. As soon as I got out, I saw the look of concern in Dr. Johnson’s eyes. He didn’t have to say anything to tell me that something was wrong.

I sighed a deep breath of frustration and shook my head.

“Is she getting better?” I asked, already knowing the answer.

“People with Alice’s condition don’t usually get better. It’s quite rare and it’s looking more and more likely that there are no other options. She’ll need the surgery.”

Dr. Johnson already knew my situation. I’d talked to him so many times but the answer never changed. There was only one answer now but it didn’t make the choice any easier.

“When will it be?” I asked.

“I can get her into surgery sometime next week. The sooner it’s done, the better.”

“And the sooner I get the bills…”

“I’m sorry, Faye. That’s just how things work.”

“I know. You don’t have to explain it to me.”

“You can speak to one of our providers on your way out. They’ll explain to you some of your payment options. You don’t have to do everything all at once.”

“Are you sure there’s no way around this?”

Dr. Johnson gave me a frown.

  “No… Of course not…”

He put a hand on my shoulder.

“If there’s anything else I can do for you, you just let me know, okay?”

He bowed his head to me and walked away. I waited for a moment before heading back into the hospital room.

Alice was preoccupied with some cartoons.

“Wow,” I said. “You already finished.”

“It wasn’t that much. And it’s the best flavor in the world.”

“Okay… I’ll bring you two pints next time.”

  “Yes!”

She pumped her fist then turned her attention back to the TV. I took a seat next to her bed and stared at her.

She was so young. She was pretty, too. It hurt me to think that there was a chance she might not get a chance to do whatever it was she was destined for.

I had to tell her though.

“Alice… Can I talk to you for a second?”

I grabbed the remote and muted the television. She raised an eyebrow at me.

  “What is it?” she said.

  I hesitated for a second.

  Stay strong… For her…

I took a deep breath and gathered myself.

“I just talked to Dr. Johnson,” I said. “And…”

  “And what?”

She gave me a confused look. That innocent smile on her face just reminded me of how young she was. Not even a teenager and having to go through all of this.

  “Alice, you need the surgery.”

“What?” she exclaimed. “But Dr. Johnson said I was getting better!”

“You are! You are getting better. But the surgery will make you feel even more better. It’ll make it so you don’t have to spend all your time in this room.”

Alice didn’t try hiding her disappointment. She shifted her gaze away from me and looked back at the television even though there was no sound coming from it.

“It’ll be all right,” I said. “Surgery is nothing to be afraid of. Everybody here at the hospital knows what they’re doing. You won’t even know it happened.”

She stayed quiet. I was desperate, trying to find everything, anything, to say to her to put her at ease.

“I know you’re afraid,” I said. “You don’t have to be. I’m here with you. I’ll always be by your side. No matter what. You know that.”

A tear leaked down from the corner of her eye.

“I miss mom and dad,” she said.

Hearing her say it broke my heart. I blinked to stop my eyes from watering and clenched my jaw so hard that it hurt.

“I know you do,” I said. “I miss them, too.”

“I wish they were here with me. I wish they were wi
th me so I didn’t have to go through this by myself.”

  “I’m here with you, Alice.”

I reached out and grabbed her hand.

“I’m with you. You’ll be perfectly healthy after the surgery. There’s nothing for you to worry about.”

I squeezed her hand and waited for her to squeeze it back.

“Everything is going to be all right.”

She looked back at me, her eyes as red as her cheeks.

  “Do you promise?”

I swallowed and nodded to her.

“I promise,” I said. “And when the surgery is over, I’ll get you another pint of ice cream.”

The smile came back to her face. I held back a sigh of relief at seeing how big her grin was.

  “You said two,” she said.

“All right,” I said. “Two pints.”

“I want one cake batter cookie dough and the other one chocolate chip.”

“You got it,” I said with a laugh.

I turned the volume on the television back up for her.

“Now,” I said. “What are we watching?”

“I don’t know,” she said with a shrug. “But it looks funny, doesn’t it?”

“It does. Maybe I’ll stick around for the rest of the day with you.”

“We’re gonna need more ice cream if you’re gonna do that.”

“All right… Maybe I’ll go get some—”

My phone started ringing in my pocket. I pulled it out and saw the number I usually saw.

  “Hold on, Ally.”

I stepped out of the room and held the phone up to my ear.

  “Yes, sir?”

“Faye. You’ll need to come back in tonight. These women have no clue what it takes to be an assistant.”

  “Yes. Of course, sir.”

“Have you located the man? The one who got away with my money.”

“Yes. I can get him to the club tonight for a game.”

“Good. I expect you to be by my side.”

  “Yes, sir.”

I was waiting for him to hang up but my boss wouldn’t let me go.

“Remember, Faye. You work for me. I’m the one paying you.”

  “I remember.”

I stuffed my phone back into my pocket.

I wanted to forget about what was going to happen tonight. I just wanted to spend time with Alice and enjoy myself. I couldn’t let my job distract me.
