Luscious Page 23

by Schroeder, Melissa

After a couple of hours, Harry chases our family and friends out of the room and tells them we need our rest.

He’s holding Carolina and rocking her. He has been holding her constantly and I know the feeling.

“You can put her down you know,” I say.

He looks up at me. Happiness fills his gaze. “I know. But…she’s so perfect.”

I sniff trying not to start crying again. I’ve been doing it constantly since she was born.

  “How’s your hand?” I ask.

“I might never be able to write my name again,” he says with a chuckle. Okay, I might have squeezed it a little hard during labor. Also, I might have called him a son of an armadillo during the worst of it. It’s all a little hazy.

The room is one of those family rooms, where he can stay with me. I watch him set Carolina in her bassinet and after checking her to make sure the blanket is secure around her; he comes over to my bed. There’s another bed but he settles on the mattress next to me.

“Look how beautiful she is,” he says, awe filling his voice. “She looks just like you.”

I glance up at him. “She has your nose.”

“Yeah, but everything else is you.”

  I smile. “Yeah.”

“And I’m blaming her loud screams on you too. She already has a lot to say, just like her mama.”

I would take offense, but there is such warmth in his voice when he says it, that my heart melts. This man is perfection.

  “I love you, Harry.”

He looks back at me, love filling his expression.

“I love you, Elliana. Now rest.”

Exhausted, I decide to obey him. He wraps his arms around me as I drift off to sleep, love and contentment filling me.
