Taking A Chance Page 5

  “You didn’t let me explain… It wasn’t me. I was out on location at the church all day, I only got back when I saw you having coffee… With your ex, which we will talk about in a minute.”

  “Bonnie and I both saw you, kissing some girl… She had her arms wrapped around your neck and you had her against a tree… I…”

  “It wasn’t me.” He stood up from the chair and knelt down in front of me. He took both of my hands in his. “Maybe it was my brother… How far away were you? You could easily have mistaken him for me from a distance.” I shrugged my shoulders. I didn’t know what to think, had I jumped to the wrong conclusion? Was he telling the truth? Why would he lie to me? When would he have had time to be seeing other girls? He was with me practically all weekend. When I didn’t say anything he continued; “Rose…” I looked up at him. “I really like you… There is no one else, I promise, only you… Trust me.”

  “I… I don’t know…” I could feel my anger weakening, I was so confused, I didn’t know what to believe.

  “Ask Matt… I was with him all day.”

  “He could easily lie for you.” I told him.

  “He won’t need to.” I looked into his eyes; I was convinced I would be able to tell if he was lying to me. All I could see was his face pleading with me to believe him, and he looked so genuine.

  “Ok.” I whispered.

  “You believe me?” I nodded. He smiled and pulled my arms around his neck and then he grabbed hold of my bum as he lifted me up. I automatically wound my legs around his waist. He sat back down on the bed so I was straddling him. He ran his hands up around my waist and over my ribs, pulling me closer so he could kiss me. I stretched my arms around his neck and weaved my fingers in his hair, pulling him closer to me. Our kiss was gentle and light at first but when I felt his hand move to my face I knew he was going to angle my head to deepen the kiss. The next thing I heard was;

  “Yo, Ro!” My sister called out as she barged in through my bedroom door without knocking. I went to get up but Jacob held onto my hips so I couldn’t move. I looked at him and he gave me a look to say that I couldn’t move. I knew what he meant as I could feel his large erection digging into me.

  “Amelia, get out.” I screamed at her. She stood still and placed her hands on her hips.

  “Does Dad know he is up here?”

  “Yes, he told Jacob he could come up.” I smirked at her. “Get.Out.” She looked pissed off and slammed my bedroom door behind her.

  “Stop slamming doors.” I heard Mum shout up the stairs.

  “I’m sorry, this is a mad house.” I told him as I rested my forehead against his.

  “Don’t worry, I’d better get going anyway. You need to climb off, you’re not helping certain situations.” He chuckled and when I realised what he meant I climbed off of him and sat with my back against the headboard. I could feel a blush rising on my cheeks and I was glad that he didn’t mention it. Once he was ok to walk, he got up off of the bed and held his hand out to me.

  “Walk me out.” He said.

  “I’m in my bed clothes.”

  “I can’t kiss you goodnight properly at your door with your parents there.”

  “Then kiss me goodnight here.” I told him as I stretched up to kiss him. He backed away.

  “Then that wouldn’t be goodnight as I’m still in your house.” I let out a frustrating growl and grabbed my jogging bottoms and slipped them on over my shorts. He grabbed the zip on my hoody and unzipped it. He then grabbed his hoody that was lying on the side of my bed and slipped that over my head. “There, that’s better. I like seeing you in my clothes.” He kissed the tip of my nose and opened my bedroom door. I slipped my feet into some flip flops just in case he was going to make me walk him outside. Once we were downstairs I called out to my parents;

  “Just walking Jacob out.” I opened the front door and Mum came around the corner.

  “Oh, honey, wait… Jacob you must come for tea one night this week.”

  “Mum.” I said embarrassed, trying to shove Jacob out of the door.

  “What? We would like to meet your boyfriend properly.”

  “No, Mum, we aren’t…” I stumbled across my words.

  “Oh… Aren’t you a couple?” Mum asked. I said no at the same time as Jacob replied yes. He pulled me to his side and said to my Mum;

  “Yes, Mrs. Baker we are a couple and I would love to come over one evening for tea. Thank you.”

  “Great, shall we say Friday night? Six thirty?”

  “I will be here.” She smiled at him and walked away. We walked outside and I turned to him and said;

  “What was that?” I slapped his arm and he laughed at me.

  “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He laughed and I went to slap him again and he grabbed my hand and pulled me closer to him. “Come for a ride.” He nodded his head towards his bike. I felt brave and flirty so I leant into him and reached up so I could whisper into his ear;

  “Oh, I will definitely ride. You. But not with my parents around.” I kissed his neck and cuddled into him. I didn’t want to look at him until the blush had disappeared from my face. I pulled back and he was still smirking.

  “I’ll pick you up in the morning?” He asked me. I shook my head and said;

  “Bonnie is coming to get me as we have some photography work to do in the morning.”

  “I’m out doing the rest of that project at the church again in the afternoon… Can I see you tomorrow evening?”

  “Ok.” I nodded. He pulled me close and devoured my lips.

  “Bye, babe.” He smiled, walking away. I waved goodbye and as he drove away I put my fingers to my lips and smiled to myself.

  Chapter 7

  It was the following afternoon and I was sitting at the picnic benches at college waiting for Jacob to arrive. We were going to his place. I hadn’t seen him all day and I felt excited at the thought of spending more time with him.

  “Hey, babe.” He said softly behind me as he kissed my neck. I smiled and turned around.

  “Hey you…” I was about to ask him how his day had been when he cut me off with a hot and steamy kiss. I felt my knees weaken and I was glad that I was sitting down. When he pulled away I had to stop myself from pouncing on him.

  “You ready?” He asked, as he held out his hand for me to take. I placed my hand into his and he pulled me up. We walked over towards his bike, climbed on and he sped away towards his place. I was slowly getting used to the bike and I definitely wasn’t going to complain about being so close to him.

  “Come on in, make yourself at home…” Jacob said as we walked into his flat.

  “Where is everyone else?” I asked, as I placed my bag on the floor by the sofa.

  “Brother’s at the gym, I think. Matt should be here… Yo, Matt?” He called out. There was no answer. Jacob shrugged his shoulders. “I guess he’s out too… We have the place to ourselves.” He smirked as he walked closer to me. He sat down onto the sofa and pulled me onto his lap and before I could react his lips were closing in on mine. I didn’t object, I loved how his kisses made me feel and I would never reject them. After a couple of minutes I pulled back and said;

  “I’m hungry.”

  “Mmm, me too.” He said as his hands roamed all over my body.

  “For food.” I said, giggling.

  “Oh… Let’s go and see what we have in the kitchen.” I stood up and he followed me into the kitchen. I sat on the stool at the breakfast bar while he rooted around in the fridge.

  “How about some stir fry?” He asked.

  “Sounds good, do you want me to help?”

  “Here… Chop these up.” He said, passing me a chopping board, knife and vegetables.

  “And what exactly are you going to do?” I asked as I started chopping.

  “I’m gonna start the chicken off and grab a bottle of wine, would you like some?” I nodded and he poured me a glass and placed in on the work top next to me. I watched him mo
ve around his kitchen and I loved what I saw, especially when he had to reach up high for something and I caught a glimpse of his muscled back when his t-shirt rode up a little. My mind was drifting off to places it shouldn’t have been. I tried to clear my head by making conversation;

  “Um… So, where did you learn to cook?”

  “Just picked it up.” He said, not turning around.

  “Did your Mum teach you to cook?” He shook his head, still not looking at me. “I’m all done.” I climbed off of the stool and put all the rubbish in the bin. I then walked over to him, placed my hand in the middle of his back. “You ok?”

  “Yeah… Why wouldn’t I be?” He said stirring the chicken around and adding the stir fry sauce. “Pass me the veggies and this will be ready very soon.” He kissed me briefly on the lips before I moved away. I passed him the veggies and he threw them into the pan with the chicken. He then laid the breakfast bar with knives and forks.

  “Go ahead and sit down and I will bring this over.” I did as he said. I watched him gather all the food together; I couldn’t help but think he would make a great husband and it was good that at least one of us would be able to cook.

  “Here you go.” Jacob placed a large plateful in front of me.

  “It smells amazing… But this is way too much.”

  “Just eat what you can babe.” He told me as he began eating. We both ate in a comfortable silence until I couldn’t squeeze anymore food in. I pushed the plate away from me and placed my hand on my tummy. Jacob laughed at me as he finished his last bite, clearing his plate.

  “Where are your Mum and Dad?” I asked.

  “Dunno.” Dunno? Was that all I was going to get?

  “You don’t know?”

  “No, they left me and my brother when we were fourteen… Went out one day and never came home.” He shrugged it off like it was no big deal.

  “I’m sorry… Have you ever tried to find them?” I asked. I placed my hand over the top of his, rubbing it gently.

  “I don’t need your sympathy.” He snapped, as he stood up and began clearing away the dirty dishes.

  “I wasn’t… That’s not what I was doing…” He had his back turned to me and he didn’t reply to what I’d said. “Jacob… I just want to know everything about you. You were the one who told my Mum that we were a couple… But I still don’t know that much about you.” I watched him hang his head and sigh. “Or was that just what you were telling my Mum? But really we’re just a bit of fun?”

  “Rose… No… I… It’s just something we don’t talk about.” He walked towards me and placed his hands on my hips. “And you are my girlfriend.” I wound my arms around his neck and stood on my tip toes so I could kiss him. After a few seconds I pulled away.

  “It’s ok. You don’t have to tell me.”

  “I will tell you everything about me… Just not today. Ok?” I nodded and he swept me off of my feet and carried me to the sofa. He laid me down and climbed on top of me. I placed my hands on his chest and could feel all of his muscles. He had his legs on the outside of mine and he was slowly and carefully trailing his hands up higher and higher until one hand was cupping my face. He lowered his head towards mine and took full advantage of my lips. He licked and nibbled my lower lip and I opened my mouth so our tongues could entwine. I felt a spark of hot fire in my tummy and a small moan escaped from my throat. He moaned in reply as he lay his chest against mine and our kisses started to get more heated.

  “Yo, J!” Matt called out as he stormed into the flat. I yelped as he made me jump. Jacob was still hovering above me and I tried pushing him off with my hands. He didn’t move at all. Jacob was looking at him.

  “We have gotta go… Now.” Matt didn’t even acknowledge me, and he looked annoyed.

  “Fuck.” Jacob hissed as he stood up. He ran his hands through his hair, looking at me. “Babe, I gotta go out for a couple of hours… Stay here, wait for me and I will be back.”

  “What? No… Can’t I come with you?” I asked, straightening my clothes that he had creased by lying on top of me.

  “NO!” Matt and Jacob shouted together.

  “Take me home then.” I told him, standing up and grabbing my shoes. I saw Jacob look at Matt and he shook his head ever so slightly.

  “Babe, I can’t… Please, wait for me here… I won’t be long.”

  “Fine.” I sighed as I slumped down onto the sofa. Jacob smiled at me, gave me a quick kiss and then they were both running out of the door.

  ***

  Almost three hours had passed since Jacob and Matt had left. I sent him a text asking how much longer he was going to be and had heard nothing back. I was bored, so I tidied up and washed the dishes. I’d watched a few episodes of ‘Friends’ on the TV. I’d also finished one of my projects that was due in two weeks. I was getting fed up of waiting for him so I’d decided to text Bonnie and see if she was able to pick me up. If she wasn’t I was going to have to walk home as it was getting late and my parents would be worried.

  Hey you busy? x

  Nope, what do you need? x

  Can you pick me up from Jacobs? x

  Sure, everything ok? x

  Will explain when you get here. x

  On way x

  Fifteen minutes later I climbed into Bonnie’s car and she asked;

  “What the hell happened?”

  “He went out.” Bonnie started driving.

  “He went out and left you at his place?”

  “Yeah, Matt came in and said they had to go… He asked me to wait, said he would only be a couple of hours… I got fed up of waiting.” I shrugged my shoulders like it wasn’t a big deal, but inside I couldn’t help wondering where he was and what he was doing. Whatever it was it had seemed pretty urgent.

  “That’s strange. Did you call him?”

  “I sent him a text, no answer… Should I be worried?”

  “To be honest… I really don’t know. Did he tell you where he was going?”

  “No.” We pulled up outside of my house and I turned to Bonnie. “Do you think he is cheating on me?”

  “No… Surely he wouldn’t ask you to stay at his house if he was seeing someone else.”

  “Yeah true. Well, thanks for coming to the rescue.”

  “Anytime.” She gave me a hug and I got out of the car and walked into my house and straight up to my room.

  As I climbed into bed after having a shower I heard my phone ping. I picked it up and it was Jacob.

  I’m sorry about tonight babe. Why didn’t you stay? x

  You said you would be a couple hrs, I was there over 3!

  Shit! I’m sorry. I’ll make it up to you x

  Where were you?

  I can’t tell you at the minute x

  Why?

  Silence, no reply. I waited and after fifteen minutes I’d still heard nothing so I sent another one.

  Are you seeing someone else?

  Nothing, no response. Well, either he hadn’t seen the message or I should have been taking that as a yes. I was frustrated and pissed off. I felt things for Jacob that I’d not felt before. I was not going to let my heart get involved as he was coming across as trouble.

  Chapter 8

  I hadn’t heard from Jacob in three days, no phone calls or texts and I hadn’t seen him at college either. I was pissed off that he’d claimed he’d wanted a relationship with me and then he’d dropped off the face off the earth.

  “Hey… Rose… Rose… Are you listening to me?”

  “Oh, what? Sorry Bonnie. My mind was…”

  “Somewhere else, yeah I know… Let’s go out tonight.” I was going to say no, but I thought what the hell. I was not going to be sitting around and wait for him to call me. Which he probably wouldn’t anyway. Had Amelia been right? Did he stop having anything to do with me because we didn’t sleep together straight away?

  “Yeah, let’s go out. Where?” Bonnie looked shocked.

  “Um… There is a party tonight, one of the girl
s in my biology class, it’s her birthday.”

  “Cool… I’m not gonna waste time sitting around thinking about Jacob. I’m gonna have fun, lots of fun.”

  “Yay… it’s gonna be so much fun.” Bonnie pulled up outside of my house and I jumped out. “See you later. Text me when you want picking up.” I nodded and waved goodbye to her. I walked in the front door and Mum was waiting for me.

  “Hi.” I said, wondering why she was standing there.

  “Don’t forget we are having dinner tonight, what time will your boyfriend be here?” Mum asked.

  “Oh, I’m sorry, I completely forgot… We aren’t together anymore.”

  “You aren’t?” My sister asked, interrupting. I shook my head and she squealed and ran upstairs. Great, she was definitely going to be getting her claws into him now. It shouldn’t have bothered me, but it did.

  “Are you ok, honey?”

  “Yeah… I’m going out with Bonnie tonight, one of her friends is having a small birthday party…”

  “A party?” Mum asked, not sounding happy.

  “Yes… Please, Mum, it will make me feel better. I won’t be drinking… Please?”

  “Yes, ok.” I jumped up and down in excitement and gave Mum a hug.

  “I need to get ready… I need to shower, decide what to wear, hair up or down?” I was mumbling to myself as I walked into my bedroom.

  An hour later, Amelia walked into my bedroom. “Come on, lets go.” She said. She was dressed in a very short white dress.

  “Go where?” I asked her, feeling confused.

  “To the party… I’ll drive.”

  “You’re not coming to the party.” I told her, placing my hands on my hips. I wanted to enjoy the evening and knew that I wouldn’t be able to with her there.

  “Yes I am.”

  “Why? Jacob won’t be there… I thought you would be off trying to find him by now.” It hurt that she wanted to get her claws into him. He had ignored me for a couple of days and that had pissed me off, but I couldn’t just turn off how I was feeling. I’d felt something for him, we’d had a connection.
