by Diana Mitford

  25. The temple was built in 1800 for General Moreau by his wife and his mother-in-law, to celebrate his victory at Hohenlinden. These enthusiastic ladies gave it its rather high-sounding name. The architect was Vignon.

  26. Walter Hallstein, Europe in the Making.

  About the Author

The hilarious autobiography of the most glamorous of the Bright Young Things. Diana Mitford describes in the inimitable Mitford way how it came about that both Winston Churchill and Adolf Hitler adored her, and Evelyn Waugh and Oswald Mosley fell in love with her.

Diana Mitford was the third of the Mitford sisters. She first married a Guinness, with whom she had two children, and then Oswald Mosley, with whom she also had two children. Selina Hastings, a friend, is a biographer — notably of Evelyn Waugh.
