She cried out in pleasure, her body tightening on his. Something leaped between them in a tingling electric arc. She gasped, eyes going wider. It filled her. He filled her. Jon came with Mel’s name on his tongue.
She pushed too.
The pulse built between them, spreading out like a tidal wave. She clutched at him, pulling him to her for a kiss, saying his name over and over again until he was spent and still. With a laughing sort of sob, she kissed his mouth and said his name again, softer this time.
“They wanted us to be like them,” she whispered. The knife had fallen on the floor. “But we’re not.”
Rolly and Lillian were gone.
Chapter 8
No more broken mirrors. Jon fixed them because he was handy like that. He fixed her closet door too, so it would stay shut. He’d promised to do a lot more to the apartment too, but after they got back from their vacation.
Beside her in the giant bedspread with pristine white sheets, he slept. The open window blew in the scent of a sea breeze. He didn’t snore, he didn’t hog the blankets. He kept his feet on his own side of the bed, rinsed the sink of toothpaste and didn’t leave the seat up. He was pretty damned perfect, she thought and kissed his bare shoulder.
Jon stirred slightly, but didn’t open his eyes. With a peek under the blankets at his magnificent morning erection, Mel considered waking him with a leisurely morning blow job. It would be worth it, she knew that much, because he always returned the favor.
But first, she thought, she needed to use the bathroom. She padded across the hotel room’s thick carpet and into the decadently huge bathroom complete with walk-in shower and spa tub. Later, maybe she’d convince him to try it out with her.
The whisper tickled her earlobes as she brushed her teeth at the sink. Mel straightened, listening. The presence was faint. Confused. She went to the open window and balcony beyond to look over the edge. Poor thing, she thought. There’d been an accident.
Mel gripped the railing for a moment, her eyes closed. She imagined herself gathering a handful of ribbons, all attached to floating balloons. The ribbons tickled the backs of her hands. The balloons tugged. The pulse gathered strength inside her.
“Let go,” she whispered, and pushed. Whatever had been there did.
Mel went back to bed to wake her sleeping husband with words of love…and a whole lot more.
