  Ruby

  Rubies are pink to red and appear opaque, but when polished and cut become a vivid, transparent red. These precious gemstones are used in jewelry, but the rough stones also offer powerful healing properties.

  Ruby in Fuchsite

  Ruby occurs naturally in fuchsite. The fuchsite has light to deep green coloring that appears almost creamy, and when it has ruby in it, the fuchsite contains spots that vary in size and are pink to deep red.

  Sapphire

  Sapphire is a form of the mineral corundum (which is also the mineral of rubies). It is very hard and durable. Sapphire comes in many colors, although the most commonly recognized is the blue sapphire. While stones of different colors share many qualities, there are some differences among them. Blue sapphire opens the third eye and aids connection with higher self. Green sapphire sparks wisdom. Orange sapphire spurs creativity. Yellow sapphire encourages prosperity.

  Sardonyx

  Sardonyx is a banded variety of chalcedony (a type of quartz), with alternating layers of sard and onyx. Most common by far is red or brown with swirls of black or white. You can also find sardonyx in blue with black swirls, although that is the more rare combination. The stone tends to be deeply colored and opaque.

  Selenite

  Selenite is a very high-vibration stone. It is milky white with white striations or ridges. A variety of gypsum, it has a soft texture, so you need to be very careful because it damages easily. You can find selenite as rough or smooth stones, and you can also find it in carvings. Some people use selenite towers on lighted bases, and the selenite glows with the changing colors of the light. Don’t use water or salt to cleanse this crystal.

  Spinel

  Sparkling crystalline gemstones, spinel comes in many colors, although the most common is red. The stones tend to be quite small, and they are clear but often contain inclusions within the crystals.

  Sugilite

  Pronounced “sooj-a-lite,” this purple opaque stone has banding of contrasting color, white to brown, running through it. The stone is lightly sparkly. It is also called lavulite. It is a relatively rare stone.

  Sulfur

  Sulfur is a beautiful and bright yellow stone. Opaque and irregular, with sparkling bits of crystal on the surface and throughout, the stone detoxifies and absorbs negativity. Pure elemental sulfur, used in everything from fertilizer to medicine to matches, is not toxic. However, the physical crystal can be reactive with other elements. Do not leave it near a heater or lamp where it can release gases. Never use water or salt to cleanse this crystal.

s a form of feldspar, and it can be very clear or it might be milky or opaque, depending on the piece.

  Super Seven

  Also known as melody stone, sacred seven or super 7, this is a high-vibration stone. It is a stone that naturally contains seven different types of quartz: clear quartz, amethyst, smoky quartz, cacoxenite, rutile, geothite, and lepidocroncite. It tends to look like a piece of amethyst with major areas of different materials throughout, and its appearance will vary greatly depending on the composition. Super seven has a very strong vibrational feeling in the hand, almost to the point of discomfort if you hold it too long, because it has such a powerful energy.

  A beautiful blue to violet stone, tanzanite is clear, and when cut into faceted gemstones makes beautiful jewelry. It is a form of the mineral zoisite, and it gets its name from its origins in Tanzania. It is a relatively rare stone.

  Tigers Eye

  Blue is one of the three main colors of tigers eye. The other two are red and yellow. You can sometimes find all of the colors in a single stone, or you can find them in stones by themselves. Blue tigers eye has a deep gray blue color (sometimes so dark it’s almost black, especially when it’s unpolished) with darker gray bands running through it, and the stone has an iridescent sheen. It is a moderately hard stone.

  Red tigers eye is a banded stone that has a reddish cast with darker red or brown striations. Even unpolished, it has a sheen to it, and the polished form has a metallic luminescence.

  Topaz is a transparent blue or yellow gemstone frequently cut into facets and used in jewelry. In its cut and polished form, it is very clear. It is a precious gemstone, and the cut pieces tend to be fairly small. Blue topaz enhances communication and increases connection to higher realms. Yellow topaz boosts self-esteem and helps with setting boundaries.

  Tourmaline is a precious gemstone prized for its clear and beautiful color. Black is one of the many colors of tourmaline, and it is very commonly used in metaphysical and spiritual practice for protection from negative energy. Black tourmaline is also known as schorl. Because it absorbs so much energy, it’s important to cleanse black tourmaline regularly.
