  Tourmaline

  Green tourmaline has a lovely green color and is commonly used as a precious gemstone in jewelry. Along with the polished and cut stones, you can find rough green tourmaline, which may be in polished stones or points with a clear green color. It is also known as verdelite.

  Tourmaline

  Pink tourmaline is a clear pink gemstone. It is often polished and used in jewelry, and is fairly expensive. It is a high-vibration stone. You can find the stones by themselves or as bands of tourmaline embedded in other stones.

  WATERMELON

  Tourmaline

  Watermelon tourmaline gets its name because it resembles a slice of watermelon. It has green, white, and pink shades throughout. The gemstone is very clear and banded, and it is often cut into jewelry. It is a fairly expensive gemstone.

  Turquoise

  An opaque stone, turquoise comes in shades of blue to turquoise with dark or light veins running through. Turquoise is very popular in jewelry, especially that associated with the American Southwest. Many manufacturers dye howlite to look like turquoise (sometimes called howlite turquoise), so it’s important to be sure you’re working with the actual stone.

  Unakite

  Unakite is mossy green with peach to pink large spots and flecks of gold throughout. It is a form of jasper. You may find it in rough stones or tumbled and polished.

  Promotes emotional balance, improves sleep, fights addiction, increases willpower

  Vanadinite

  Vanadinite is formed naturally when a mineral ore that contains lead becomes oxidized. This stone is yellow to orange to red, and has clear crystals in boxy clusters. The brightly colored crystals are transparent and quite small.

  PLACEMENT

  Place directly on the sacral chakra, tape to the bottom of a chair or place on the desk of a creative workspace, place under mattress or pillow or on bedside table to awake refreshed and energized

  Zircon

  This semiprecious gemstone comes in blue, yellow, red, brown, or clear. Many people confuse it with cubic zirconium, but they aren’t the same. Zircon is a naturally occurring mineral with metaphysical properties, while cubic zirconia is a synthetic material with no metaphysical properties.

  Zoisite

  Many gemstones, such as tanzanite and thulite, are forms of zoisite, but here we refer to green zoisite. The color ranges from light to dark green, and it may be found naturally with ruby in it, much like fuchsite. Zoisite has little sparkling bits throughout the rock, and it is an opaque stone.

  AFFIRMATION A positive statement you make as a form of meditation about something you’d like to see in your life. The statement is made as if the goal has already been achieved. For example, “I am healthy, happy, and prosperous.” Also see mantra.

  AURA Part of the energetic anatomy; the spiritual energy that surrounds the body, holding energetic information about a person as an emotional being, physical being, and spiritual being.

  CHAKRA An energetic vortex in the body. The seven main chakras (see illustration here) have specific colors and physical, energetic, and spiritual properties associated with them.

  CHARGING A method of imparting energy into crystals so that they will function at their highe
st vibrational level when you use them, usually done after cleansing or with new crystals.

  CLEANSING A method of clearing accumulated energy from crystals, usually done with saltwater, energetic intention, or holding in a stream of smoke (smudging).

  DIVINE Another word for God, Source, higher consciousness, or any innate intelligence one believes exists in the universe.

  ENERGY, PSYCHIC Any type of energy not currently measurable by scientific instruments, including intuition, extra-sensory perception (ESP), clairvoyance, psychokinesis, and healing.

  ENERGY WORK/ENERGY HEALING Working with spiritual energy to bring about physical, spiritual, emotional, or mental change or healing. Crystal healing is a form of energy healing.

  GROUNDING A way for an individual to connect to the Earth for the purpose of maintaining balance among his/her physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects.

  HAND, GIVING In energy work, this is the hand that shares energy and healing with others. This is the dominant hand, generally the one a person writes with.

  HAND, RECEIVING In healing work, this is the hand through which energy is received. This is the nondominant hand, generally the one a person does not write with.

  HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS The consciousness of one’s higher self, in which one can access the Divine, universal consciousness from which all things derive. Meditation is one method by which people seek to attain higher consciousness.

  HIGHER SELF The part of an individual that is in touch with his/her spirit’s path, enabling that person to access higher consciousness; other terms may include higher spirit or soul.

  INTUITION Information received from a source of higher consciousness or higher self by way of the third eye chakra.

  LAW OF ATTRACTION A spiritual principle stating that people attract from the universe what they think, say, do, and point their energy toward, for positive or negative.

  LIFE FORCE The divine energy, such as prana or Chi, that animates all living beings.

  MANTRA In this book, an affirmative statement that focuses on a positive desired outcome or state of being, or an acknowledgment and gratitude for what is.

  MANTRA MEDITATION A form of meditation in which the practitioner sits quietly and chants a mantra (aloud or to oneself) to keep the mind focused and to create positive energy.

  MERIDIAN An energetic pathway running through the body. The human body has 12 meridians, each associated with different organs.

  MINDFULNESS MEDITATION A form of meditation in which the practitioner sits quietly and allows thoughts to arise, noticing them as they do and then releasing them fully.

  MOVEMENT MEDITATION A form of meditation in which the practitioner performs repetitive movements, such as walking slowly, to keep the mind focused and clear.

  NUMEROLOGY A branch of knowledge dealing with the metaphysical significance of numbers.

  PATH Your path—referred to variously in this book as your spirit’s path, life’s path, and soul’s path—is the path you follow on this Earth, which includes the lessons you need to learn, the karma you attempt to balance through your actions and reactions, and the people you need to meet, among other things.

  PRESENT The moment of now; keeping one’s attention on the now (present-time focus) relieves worries about the past and the future and increases gratitude and appreciation.

  PROGRAMMING A method of imparting energy and intention into crystals, usually through meditation or energy transfer, so that crystal will perform for the intended purpose. This is usually performed after cleansing and charging.

  PROSPERITY CORNER A feng shui concept, this is an area of the home that attracts abundance and prosperity. The prosperity corner is located in the farthest back left corner of the home when facing inward.

  REIKI A form of energy healing that calls upon universal energy to impart healing, either through the hands or through the mental application of energy.

  SHAMAN, SHAMANIC WORK A person who is able to work with spirits and the spiritual. Shamanic work involves working with spirits to eliminate negativity and increase positive energy/spirits.

  SPIRIT GUIDE A being of higher consciousness that exists to help you along your path, often appearing through dreams, inspiration, and intuition.

  UNCONDITIONAL LOVE Pure spiritual love that exists without conditions of any kind, regardless of the behavior or actions of others.

  VISUALIZATION A meditative act in which the practitioner creates mental images, or pictures, with the intention of manifesting the experience in reality.

  WORRY STONE A smooth, flat stone that is rubbed with the thumb to relieve stress or tension or to impart the energy from the stone to you.
