For the Good of All Page 48

by Marc Stevens

“Commander, the Overseer has decrypted a small quantity of the information from the Hivemind’s memory files. Extraordinary information has come to light. Two-hundred and twenty-seven Earth years ago, the Hivemind sent an incredibly powerful energy burst at a target outside of this galaxy. The target was a location in the Andromeda galaxy. The Overseer was able to accurately decipher the coordinates.”

That got our attention and we were wide awake now. “What are you telling us Justice?”

“Commander, we now have the target coordinates necessary to travel to the Andromeda galaxy.”

I was speechless — we now had intergalactic capabilities. We had a way of striking at the Prule if they still existed in Andromeda. There was only one way to find that out, and it would require a trip to the target location. A sobering thought crossed my mind. It might turn out to be a suicide mission. DEHD Core jumping into the middle of a Prule installation could prove to be a very unhealthy decision.

“Did the Overseer find anything else of interest?”

“Yes. He has uncovered what appears to be a number of inquiries to encoded locations throughout this galaxy. We are working together to break the encryption and identify the locations. I will alert you to any additional findings.”

My crew got up from the table and was headed to the lift tube. They deserved a long uninterrupted sleep period. I took Tria by the hand and we followed them to the bridge level. I had made some promises and decided it was time I kept them. I smiled at Tria and could tell she was tired. I took matters into my own hands and grabbed her up, throwing her over my shoulder. At first, she seemed surprised but after I grunted and beat on my chest a couple of times, she started laughing out loud. I didn’t care who was watching and carried her down the corridor toward my quarters. My crew just smiled and shook their heads as they disappeared into their rooms. I didn’t have a care in the universe right up until Justice hailed me.

“Commander, the Operative needs to urgently speak with you!”

“Justice, you can tell the Operative to go jump in the void, I am not taking her calls and I want the IST and Backscatter units shut off until further notice. “

“Commander, she said to tell you the Prule research facility has gone dark!”

  “WHAT!?”
