“No but I will. Hit me up so I can be at your next doctors’ appointment.”

  “Okay.”

Ramsey walked out the restaurant jumping into his car. Bringing it to life, he drove towards the expressway heading back to Philly. He pulled up to the Youth Center forty-five minutes later and parked in front of the building. Hopping out the car, he jogged up the stairs opening the door to the building and walking to the office. Randall was on the phone when he entered so, he took a seat and waited a few minutes for the car to end.

“Thank you for lettin’ me know that you were goin’ to be late.” Randall glared at him.

“My bad man. Phoenix called me so we can talk. I just came from Maggiano’s out King of Prussia.”

“It’s a Maggiano’s in Center City? Why did y’all go all the way out there?”

“I met her there. I guess she lives in the area or she was probably already out there.” Ramsey shrugged. “So, how does the buildin’ look?”

“Go check it out for ya self.”

Ramsey left the office and toured the building from top to bottom. Each room was freshly painted and the floors shined from the wax. The equipment and furniture was scheduled to arrive in the beginning of the week and Ramsey couldn’t wait for the center to be open to the public. After touring the building, the twins doubled checked everything that was being ordered for the center. Hours had passed and Ramsey didn’t realize that he didn’t have his phone until he noticed that it was five in the evening. As he got up to leave, Randall’s cell phone rung.

“Yo, it’s Ryan. I’m gonna put it on speaker.”

  “Aight.”

“Yo, Ryan. You’re on speaker phone. Ramsey is here with me.”

“Nigga, why aren’t you answering your phone! Something happened to Cashmere!”

“What the fuck are you talkin’ about?”

“I was on the phone with her when she told me that she was going to the hospital in Delaware to go see Baylynn when somebody hit her car! I heard a lot of noise in the background and I’m sure but she might’ve have been in a car accident!”

Ramsey rushed out the building to his car and found his phone resting in the cup holder. He checked his phone and saw that he had over twenty missed calls from his sister, Cashmere, her mother and Nick. He was about to call her mother when a call from a number he didn’t recognize came through but he answered anyway.

  “Hello?”

“Is this the fiancé of Cashmere Edwards?” a woman spoke.

  “Yeah.

“I’m one of the nurses here at Hahnemann Hospital. Your fiancée was brought minutes ago because she was involved in terrible car accident. She’s in surgery right now--

“Say no more. I’m on my way.”

Ramsey rushed back inside to let his brother know what was going on before he quickly left back out, hopped in his car and darted over to the hospital making it there in fifteen minutes. Parking in the underground garage, Ramsey rushed to the emergency room entrance and when the reception saw him coming, she quickly stood to her feet.

“I received a phone call about my fiancé, Cashmere Edwards. The nurse that called me said she was in surgery. She was in a car accident.” He panted.

“They're still operating on her now. I'll the doctor know that you're and hopefully someone can come out and talk to you soon.”

“No! I need to know somethin' now! She's pregnant! I need to know if my fiancée and child are okay!”

“Sir, I just calm down and let me see if I can get you an update.”

Ramsey began pacing the floor as the nurse made her call. A few minutes later, Randall walked in and before he could ask answer questions, the nurse ended her call.

“Sir, the doctors are finished operating on your spouse and she'll be out shortly.”

  “Thank you.”

The twins stood off to the side as they waited for the doctor to come from the back. Ramsey couldn’t sit still as he went back to pacing the floor. He couldn’t take not knowing what was going on with his wife. Randall tapped stopped him in his tracks when he saw a doctor coming their way.

“Are you the spouse of Miss Edwards?”

  “Yes.”

“I'm Dr. Jordan. We just finished performing emergency surgery on Cashmere and there is good news and some bad news.”

  “Give it to me straight.”

“She was involved in a really bad car accident and if she wasn’t so close by, I don’t think she would’ve made it. She has a lot of bruises and the impact from the crash made her lose consciousness and because she was hemeraging when she came in, she lost a lot blood, which caused her to slip into a coma. The emergency C-section we performed saved the babies lives and they are both healthy. We’re running test on them to see if they have any internal wounds or birth defects that may have been caused by the crash.

“Doc, you said both. Cashmere was only pregnant with one child.” Randall spoke up.

“Baby number two was hiding behind baby number one and when that happens, it's hard for the doctor to know ahead of time.”

“How long will she be in a coma?” Ramsey inquired trying to keep it together.

“To be honest, I’m not sure. It can be as little as two weeks or as long as six months. It’s hard to say.”

“When can I see her and my kids?”

“You can see them as soon as we’re finished running the test.”

  “Thank you.”

The doctor nodded her head before walking towards the back. The twins took a seat in the waiting area and Ramsey pulled his phone out his pocket to notify the family. Spending a few minutes on the phone, he tucked it back in his pocket and buried his face in his hand. Ramsey felt like he was about to lose his mind. He was glad that Cashmere and his children survived but the fact that Cashmere was involved in a car accident and was in coma had him shook. He wanted to know the details of the car accident but the only person who could tell him that was Cashmere. Ramsey thought about what the house would be like without her in it and decided that the hospital was his new home until his soon to be wife woke up from her coma.

Tamia sat in the waiting room of the St. Francis hospital with her father, Cassandra and Fateema as they waited anxiously to go back and see her. When Tamia arrived at the hospital, her father informed her that Baylynn was shot three times. Twice in the back and once in the shoulder. The doctors had to remove all three bullets but everything was fine. The doctor came out to talk to them fifteen minutes prior to let them know that the surgery went well and Baylynn was going to be fine. He told them, that once she was settled in a room, that they would be able to go back and see her. They were all relieved that Baylynn survived but the guilt was starting to weigh heavily on Tamia’s heart.

Tamia sat next to Fateema holding her hand while Charles held Tamia and Cassandra’s. They sat quietly each of them in their own thoughts but Tamia felt like everyone could hear her thoughts. She couldn’t believe that her mother had the power to pull something off like this. Her mother’s actions made her angry, frustrated and hurt all at the same time.

“I still can’t believe that someone shot my daughter in broad daylight.” Fateema’s voice quivered. “I’m grateful that she’s okay but who would want to harm my daughter?”

“I don’t know but won’t rest until I find out.” Charles answered.

“Did Baylynn have any enemies?” Cassandra inquired.

“Not that I know of. I mean, I don’t know everythin’ that she was involved in but Baylynn has really changed her life around.”

“Where is her boyfriend, Manny?” He quizzed?

“He should be here soon. He was havin’ a daddy daughter day with Brandi when everythin’ happened.”

Charles silently nodded his head. The room fell silent and Tamia felt like this was the perfect time to reveal what she knew. Cassandra’s phone began to ring and she got up and excused herself.

“Dad, Fateema? There is somethin’ I have to tell you.”
She took a deep breath. “My mother had somethin’ to do with what happened to Baylynn.”

“What?!” Fateema shifted in her seat and shouted.

“What are you talking about Tamia?” her father’s tone changed from pleasant to angry.

“She told me a few days ago that the dinner was just a decoy and that she was going to get revenge on you, Cassandra, Cashmere, Baylynn and Fateema and I just want to say apologize.” She began to cry.”

“Apologize for what?” Fateema’s eyes narrowed in on her.

“Because if it wasn’t for me wanting to have a bond with my sisters, this wouldn’t have happened. Finding Cashmere and Baylynn reminded mom of all the hurt and pain that she had buried. If I would’ve just listened to y’all and left it alone, this wouldn’t have happened.” She cried harder.

Charles wrapped his arms around his daughter to console her while Fateema jumped to her feet and began pacing.

“Charles, me and that wife of your got a fuckin’ problem now!”

  “Fateema, calm down please.”

“Fuck that! I received death threats from someone and never found out who was sendin’ them. I was scared for my life livin’ in hotels ad shit and that’s when I moved in with Baylynn. Now my daughter is layin’ up in the fuckin’ hospital because ya bitch is miserable and bitter behind the dirt you did. My daughter had nothin’ to do with this! If she wants to catch these hands or a bullet, then we can rock and roll all motherfuckin’ day but since she wanted to come for my child, all that chill shit went out the damn window!

“Lower your damn voice, Fateema!” Charles stood to his feet towering over her. “I will deal with my wife when I get home but in the meantime, I need you to act like you got some damn sense and stop causing a scene in this hospital.”

They stared at each other for a second before Fateema sat back down folding her arms across her chest.

Tamia looked at her father in shock because she never saw that side of him before. He sat back down next to her wrapped his arm around her like nothing happened. Tamia saw Cassandra walking towards them quickly with tears streaming down her face.

“I have to go.” She snatched her purse off the chair. “Cashmere is in coma.” She choked.

“Oh, my God. What the hell happened to my sister?!” Tamia jumped to her feet.

“She—she was in bad car accident on the expressway. They had to do an emergency C section on her and because she lost a lot of blood, she slipped into a coma.” She wiped the tears from her eyes.

“Oh God, no. Please tell me the baby is okay.” Charles leaned forward in his chair.

“The twins are fine. It’s a boy and a girl. Ramsey and the rest of the family are at the hospital. I’m going to check on my baby.”

“I’ll come follow behind you in my car. I have to see her.” Tamia grabbed her purse.

“I’ll be there as soon as I can.” Charles stood to hug them good bye.

“I’m so sorry, Casandra.” Fateema expressed her sympathy.

  “I am too.”

Tamia promised to keep everyone updated before they rushed out the hospital. She bumped into Manny in the parking lot and told him that she was on her way to see Cashmere in the hospital and that Fateema and her father were inside. Jumping in her car, she started the engine and waited for Cassandra to pull out of the parking before following behind her. Tamia’s anger grew as she tore up the expressway. Her mother wasn’t playing any games with her acts of vengeance. She had Baylynn shot in the middle of the afternoon and had someone try to kill Cashmere in car accident. She banged her hands on the staring wheel cursing herself for not doing something stop this from happening.

Arriving at the hospital minutes later, Tamia parked next to Cassandra’s car and they dashed towards the emergency room and spotted everyone in the waiting area. The only person that wasn’t there was Ramsey. Tamia and Cassandra hugged the family and when Tamia reached Nick, he hugged tightly not breaking their embrace until moments later.

  “Where’s Ramsey?” Cassandra quizzed?

“The doctor took him to the back. We’re waiting for him to come back so we can go see Cash and the babies.” Ryan answered.

“I can’t believe this shit happened,” Renee expressed with anger. “Cash wouldn’t be in the damn hospital if someone wasn’t tryin’ to hurt her in the first damn place.”

“What are you talking about Renee?” Cassandra watched Renee’s eyes shift to Ryan’s.

“I was on the phone with Cash when I heard this loud noise. I asked her what it was and she said someone ran into the back of her car. She had stopped talking and all I heard was a lot of crashing noises in the background. Seconds later, I heard one loud crash followed by another. I called her name but she never responded. She told me that she was on her way to the hospital to see Baylynn.” Ryan looked at Tamia.

“Why would Cash be going to the hospital to see her?” Tiffany asked with confusion.

  “Because…she’s our sister.”

Everyone’s eyes got wide at the bomb she had just dropped on them. Before anyone could say anything, Ramsey approached them. He hugged Cassandra and gave Tamia an evil glare.

“How is Cashmere and the babies?” Cassandra tried to hold back tears.

“The babies are doin’ fine.” Ramsey smiled. “They are healthy, full term babies with no signs of any birth defects or injuries.”

“Thank the Lord,” she began to cry. “We didn’t know that she was having twins.”

“My other baby girl was hidin’ behind her sister. That’s why we never saw the other baby.”

  “Wow! Twin granddaughters.”

Ramsey nodded his head and she hugged him again.

“Cashmere, on the other hand, is in pretty bad shape. She has a lot of bruises and the doctor told me that doesn’t have any fractured bones or anything. As far as the coma, they said it could take between two weeks or six months.”

Cassandra’s tears flowed like a river down her cheek. Ramsey gave her the room number she was in as well as the floor the babies were on. When Cassandra was out of sight, Ramsey was about to sit down until Tamia grabbed his arm.

“Ramsey, can I talk to you for a second?”

Ramsey looked her up and down before walking a few feet away from the family.

  “What do you want?”

“I just want to say that I’m sorry about what happened to Cashmere. I know you probably think I’m involved in this somehow but I’m not.”

“Then who is? Because somethin’ like this don’t happen for no reason. My sister told me that she was on the phone with Cash when she got into her so called accident.”

“Look, my mother is behind all of this. Connecting with Baylynn and Cash brought up a lot of bad memories for her and her plan was to kill all the people involved in her hurt. I’m just not sure who she got to carry out her little plan.”

“Hold up? You mean your mom is behind this bullshit?”

“Yes. After I see my sister and the babies, I’m going to find my mother and try to straighten this shit out.”

“Thank you for clearin’ that up. Now, I can take you off my shit list.” He chuckled.

They sealed the deal with a hug and rejoined the family. They asked her how Baylynn was doing and she ran down what happened before telling them she was going to be fine. After Cassandra came back, Tamia was next to see her sister and when she reached her room, she took a deep breath before going inside. She immediately placed her hand to her mouth to keep her from crying out at the sight of her sister. The sight of sister laying lifeless in the hospital with bandages wrapped around her head hurt her heart. She slowly walked over to the bed and continued to stare at her sister. Cashmere was hooked up to a ventilator to help her breath and a catheter. Tamia silently cried as she repeatedly apologized to her sister for what happened and promised that she was going to make it right.

Spending a few more minutes alone with her sister, Tamia went to the nursery where the twins were and as adorable
as they were, she couldn’t get excited about seeing them. The fact that her sister was in coma and she couldn’t see her children enter the world didn’t sit right with her and it tugged at her heart. The first-born twin was chunkier than the second one and they were both cute as a button. Snapping a quick picture of the twins, she went back to the waiting area to say good-bye to everyone and Nick decided to leave with her. Tamia needed to confront her mother about her bullshit vengeance plan and she couldn’t wait another minute. Jogging to her car, she jumped in, revved the engine and took off. Her phone began to ring as soon as she pulled off but she didn’t answer. Her focus was getting home to look for her mother. Tamia was furious with her mother and she needed to be stopped before anyone else got hurt.

Tamia drove eighty miles per hour in the sixty- five and came to a screeching halt in front of her parents’ house. Spotting her mothers’ car as she locked the doors to her own, she saw that the lights were off in the house but that didn’t stop her from jogging up the front steps and unlocking the door. Tamia tried to turn on the lights but to no avail. Using the flashlight on her phone, she slowly walked up the stairs. All the doors to the rooms were closed but that didn’t matter to her because the door she was headed for was at the end of the hall. Walking past her old room, the door swung open but before she could react, she was hit in the back of the head, which sent her crashing to the floor with a thud and knocking her out cold.

After Tamia and Nick left the hospital, Ramsey and his family remained in the waiting room as Ryan and Tiffany went up to see Cashmere and the twins. As his mother and brother talked around him, Ramsey tuned them out as he replayed the conversation he’d had with Tamia before she dipped. It was hard for him to believe that Tamia’s mother was responsible for what had happened to Cashmere at first, but the more he thought about it, the more he began to believe it. Ramsey didn’t know the full story behind Cashmere’s accident, but he was going to find out all the details before he made any moves.
