An Unexpected Journey: A Second Chance Novella Page 6

by Plendl, Taryn

The drive to the ballroom where our reunion was taking place was only fifteen minutes away. We pulled up to the valet, and Jay came around the side of the car, taking my hand and leading me inside. After briefly stopping to get our name tags, we went in and found a table with a couple of my old friends, rather than Jay’s, which was a relief.

I heard laughter across the room and cringed when I recognized that cackle. It was hard to forget the person who’d made it their mission to torment you in high school, and Jenna was that person for me. Not only did she torment me, but her nastiness was a main part of what had driven me to leave all those years ago. I chanced a look, and when I did, I hardly recognized the woman looking back at me. The years had not been very kind to Jenna, and I did my best to not smile at that. Karma was a real bitch.

“Here you go, sweetie.” Jay handed me a drink, and I could see the exact moment that Jenna realized who he was and that we were together. In a not-so-subtle move, I put my hand around his neck and pulled him toward me, kissing him solidly on the mouth before looking over his shoulder and smiling at her as I held up my drink. It really wasn’t my job to judge those who had wronged me, even though I must say it did feel pretty good knowing we overcame what she did. Plus, shoving it back in her face, yeah, that didn’t hurt either.

“Wow, babe, what was that about?” Jay chuckled.

“Just thinking about how happy I am with you,. I love you so much.” This time I kissed him for myself and no one else. Jay was right all those years ago when he said our journey was just beginning, and what an amazing journey it had been so far.

  About the Author

Taryn discovered her love for books at an early age, spending many hours lost in someone else's story.

It wasn't until well into adult hood that she discovered, late at night while the house was quiet, that she had just as many stories inside her just waiting to be let out. Writing has been a way for her to step away from reality and live a bit through her fun and sometimes damaged characters. You will almost always find a Happy Ever After at the end of her stories. She can't help it, it's an addiction.

She's a Southwestern girl living a Mid-Atlantic life with her husband of seventeen years and two incredible daughters who inspire her daily. She is proud to be an advocate for her child with autism, and feels incredibly blessed to be able to see the world through her eyes. Her daughters teach her more than she could ever teach them.

She enjoys reading, writing and spending time with her family, but cherishes those quiet nights after everyone is asleep when she can curl up on the couch with her fifteen year old dog. (Shh, don't tell...He's not supposed to be on the couch.)

Keep an eye out for more from her!
