  Thjalfi: A farmer’s son who became Thor’s servant and companion.

  Thrudheim: “World of Strength,” one of Thor’s three residences.

  Thrudvang: “Field of Power,” one of Thor’s three residences.

  Thule Society: A secret society founded in 1911 for the study of Germanic religion and tradition. Some of its members became leaders in the Nazi Party.

  Thunor: An Anglo-Saxon name for Thor.

  Thunaer: A name for Thor used in the 9th century in Germany.

  Thrym: A giant who stole Thor’s hammer Mjolnir.

  Tryggvason, Olaf: A king of Norway, later a saint, who worked to establish Christianity in his country.

  Viking Revival: A 19th-century Romantic movement in Scandinavia and Germany marked by a resurgence of interest in Norse mythology and culture.

  Tyr: The Aesir god of the law.

  Utgard: The realm of Utgardaloki. Literally “outlands.”

  Utgardaloki: A giant (in some versions the king of the Jotun) who tricks Thor and Loki with several illusions.

  Valhalla: Odin’s hall in Asgard.

  Valkyries: Goddesses who roam the battlefields choosing those who died well and conducting them to Valhalla.

  Vanir: The second, and lesser-known, tribe of Norse gods, to whom Frey and Freyja belonged.

  Yggdrasil: The great ash-tree that binds together all the worlds of Norse cosmogony.
