“So what‘s up at your place?“ Marie waited a moment before she answered Caroline‘s question with a detailed report of the last evening adding lots of self-pity.
“Come one, when did you transform into a coward, Marie? It was you who came up with all the forbidden stuff back at university. I tell you what. You call this guy. And if you didn‘t report back to me within the next hour that you have a new appointment, I‘ll move in at your place and find a way to bring your courage back.“
Marie watched her teacup with the steam circling over it. Caroline was right, but it hurt to confess it to herself. She had made herself a coward during the years, each failure of a date she became a bit more shy. And didn‘t Caroline‘s divorce prove she was right to do so?
“Don‘t you think it‘s a bad idea? I mean you are freshly divorced and pregnant. How come you, of all people, motivate me, to take a risk?“ Marie was curious. She was sure she would curse all men after being through with what Caroline probably had experienced.
“You can‘t sit in a corner your whole life. Maybe I should call Nils and invite him to my place“, Caroline thought loud at the other end of the line. Marie felt how this made her angry. No way she would hand Nils‘ phone number to Caroline.
“Forget it. I‘ll call him myself.“ She knew, her tone was rude, but she wasn‘t willing to share Nils, as she realized. The brown box with the dessert was so sweet. She longed for more like this. He was right. They loved books and this was a great point to get to know somebody else. „Thank you, Caroline. I‘ll call you again later.“ Marie hung up the phone and dialed Nils‘ number to ask for a second date and the chance to find her soul mate.

Extract from: The Meeting Contact
“Leon, you're late, Leon”, Patrick, his colleague, stated after pressing the mute symbol on the conference tool.
Patrick was looking at him as if he was doing it on purpose, Leon thought. To be honest, I did, Leon added in his thoughts but said: “Sorry, a customer needed help on the phone.”
“This customer needs help too. Help to give us a lot of money.” Patrick sounded annoyed. His suite crumbled as if he hadn‘t had time to get a new one this morning or already, which was more likely, had visited a customer before arriving at the company. “The Erkos AG plans to place an order over multiple millions of Euro, and they could expect punctually as a minimum courtesy”, Patrick Lehman started to rumble.
Leon sat down and ignored the litany and ensconced himself enjoying the fact that he could come in jeans and t-shirt. Leon knew the litany by heart, because he heard it as a starter of every meeting with Patrick he had to attend.
He rolled his eyes. Damn, he was a programmer, not a sales person. He cared a shit about sales and negotiation. They should leave him alone. Let him do his job and just handing over the specs for the next project.
