In this, my wolf and I were on the same page. Seeing Lucas in such bad shape had shaken me up. I realized that it wasn’t just my wolf that has very strong feeling for Lucas. I didn’t want anything to happen to him. I think I might even be falling in love with him.
I got to Nikoli’s house in record time. I rushed through the door shouting for Nikoli as I headed up the steps. He was standing in front of a door.
“Is he in there?” I demanded. He said simply
“yes”
Then he moved aside so that I could enter the room. I noticed the other vampire was still standing beside the bed next to Lucas. I found myself growling at him then pushing my body between his and Lucas’s.
I think I heard the vampire laugh but paid him no head. I noticed that Nikoli hadn’t followed me into the room so I mentally contacted him and asked if he thought Lucas would live. Nikoli responded that he wasn’t sure.
That wasn’t the answer that I had hoped to hear. I heard the other vampire leave the room as I reached out to touch my mate. I felt hot tears slip from my eyes and my lips quivered. I started to speak out loud.
“Dear God, please let Lucas be okay. I am so sorry that I haven’t been a good mate. God, Lucas I love you so much. Please come back to me and don’t die. Oh god, I promise if you save him I will never do anything to displease you again. Please, please I need him.”
I continued to babble on and on about loving him, and needing him and how I would never again leave his side if only he would be okay.
Chapter 33
(Kenyan’s POV)
I was pretty pleased with myself that I had decided to stick around Nikoli’s home. Things around here were anything but boring. In fact, I would say it was pretty darn interesting. The best part was that all hell has broken loose no less than three times and gauging the emotions in the air, I think we are about ready for the forth.
I chuckled quietly to myself as I looked around the room at the thirty or so wolves that had decided to stay inside the house to keep an eye on me. No doubt the shewolfs mate had put them up to this. The more I thought about last night, the broader my smile became. The bigger my smile, the more tension I could feel pouring off the wolves.
I grabbed my cell out of my pocket and dialed my daughter’s number. I knew she most likely wouldn’t answer and had probably still not set up her voice mail, but she would eventually notice the missed call and phone me back later today.
I was shocked when she actually answered. I let her know that I was extending my stay, and decided to tell her about some of what was going on in the hopes that it would intrigue her enough to join me.
“Ena, you would not believe what I stepped into here. It is amazing. There is a vampire wolf hybrid living here. Her name is Kalli. She was born from a wolf mother and father and altered by a doctor to be part vampire. Her doctor had injected her mom with Nikoli’s blood while Kalli was still in the womb.
If I had to guess I would say that’s why she is his beloved. At first I thought he was mistaken, but I have dug around inside of him and her enough to know it’s a real soul match though. It must be a forced union something to do with his blood prior to birth since we all know that nature wouldn’t pair a wolf and vampire. “
I paused thinking though all the implications yet again. What if I could inject my blood into a wolf that was pregnant could I make myself another beloved? I wonder would what have happened if it had been someone elses' blood not Nikoli’s? Could we all have a second chance at a beloved? Is it worth it if we can’t blood them? Is a hybrids blood even poisonous? Could we do it with a human instead of wolf? I definitely had many more questions than answers. The only thing I was positive of what that Kalli couldn’t possibly be Nikoli’s natural beloved. I voiced some of the more valid questions to Ena then continued.
“Kalli is a freak in more than one way. We found out last night that she can only consume wolf blood. I forced her to feed from a human donor last night and it did not go well. In fact she became very ill; Nikoli was a bit dramatic and thought we were going to lose her.”
I chuckled and found myself thinking about the incident. It was the second of several chaotic events that occurred last night. Nikoli and I had been sitting downstairs in the living room when he mentioned to me that he could feel his beloved was starving. We had some discussion about her feeding schedule and he told me that she’d been feeding from wolves her entire life. That bit of information got me very excited and I had to wonder what would happen if she drank fresh human blood.
I could care less if the hybrid was healthy or not, but couldn’t help myself from suggestion that he bring up a donor and have her feed. I put a little something extra in my suggestion and Nikoli found himself heading upstairs with a donor in hand. Initially, the little hybrid had refused to eat claiming that she didn’t want to leave her wolf mates side long enough to feed.
When Nikoli continued to insist that she feed, she changed her tune and instead claimed that she didn’t find the donor acceptable. By that point in time I could no longer contain my own curiosity so I invaded her mind and took control. I accepted on her behalf and then I helped her to plunge her fangs into the beautiful curvy brunette that belonged to Nikoli.
The moment the blood started to run through her system my curiosity was answered. I could tell her system was going to reject the blood. Not that it was poisonous but more like when we eat blood tainted with disease. It just doesn’t go down well, and fails to provide the nutrition we need. Despite that I could tell the hybrid was getting ill from the human blood I continued to force her to feed until Nikoli caught on and tried to stop me.
I think he expected to enjoy the feeding so when he found himself coughing and grabbing at this throat like it burned I think a light bulb went off in his head and he realized that his little hybrid wasn’t controlling her own mind.
Nikoli turned and attacked me physically. I knew that I could easily defend myself so I refused to fight back and continued to force the hybrid to feed. I started to see blood leaking from her ears and eyes and decided that I knew enough and let go of her mind.
The moment I turned her mind loose the real fun started. The little hellion attacked me along side of her beloved. The two of them came at me continuously wave after wave both physically and mentally. I can’t believe it but the hybrid actually blasted me with psionic inundation. It hadn’t had the full effect she had hoped for but it sure as hell did hurt.
Anyhow, our dallying around with each other drew the attention of the wolves downstairs and we had a bunch of them charging up the steps at us ready to attack. That’s when I’d first seen the omega shewolf. She was absolutely gorgeous, hands down the most beautiful wolf I had every laid my eyes on. Not only was she spectacular to look at she was also intelligent. She took in the situation, and had been smart enough to put two and two together. She realized what was going on and got the wolves calmed down enough to head back outside.
The shapely shewolf was the source of the third major event we had last night. Shortly after the episode upstairs, I astral projected myself to take a better look at the little omega shewolf Lauren. She was the spitting image of my dearly beloved, who had left me more than a thousand years ago. I’d floated around outside for a while before finally finding her snuggled with one of the damn alpha’s and another shewolf.
I mentally engaged with her and had her leave their side and join me in the woods. I returned to my body, and quickly joined her in the woods. I hadn’t intended to go very far, but it had been far too long since I had enjoyed the physical company of a beautiful female.
Her skin was so soft, her breasts were full and supple her scent was just alluring enough to push me into desiring her physically. She rejected my touch initially, but I pushed past her defenses and had turned her into putty in my hands. It took no time at all to get her body ready to receive mine. In fact I had her naked lying on her back with her legs propped open when the damn wolves descended upon us.
It
took me almost an hour to fight those friggin dogs off without killing them. It was like battling with one eye close, a hand tied behind your back, and hopping on one foot, but I managed to do it. I fought off no less than two dozen of the dogs without killing a single one. Turns out the shewolf had found her mate just that night, and he wasn’t willing to share. Oh well, there would be others. In fact with the new knowledge that I have learned just this day, perhaps I can even have another beloved. I heard my daughter hollering into the phone trying to get my attention
“Dad, are you there? I am going to hang up if you don’t answer me.” I gave myself a mental shake and spoke into the phone
“Sorry Ena, I was reflecting. Now where was I? Oh yes, the hybrid also has a true wolf mate. Just yesterday her wolf mate was severely injured in a fight and should have died. I think I might have actually saved him though. After hearing how the mother survived with vampire blood I thought it might be interesting to see what would happen if I introduced vampire blood to the sick wolf mate. I figured it would heal or kill him, anyhow it looks like he’s healing.”
I went on to tell Ena about how the hybrids mate is an alpha. That he’s one of three brothers that are all alphas and how they now all have their own packs. Then, just as I went to tell her how the two other alpha’s showed up last night looking for a fight with their entire packs following behind them she cut me off.
“Dad, I can tell that you have stumbled onto something that is going to keep you good and busy. I am very happy for you. Enjoy yourself. Call me in a few years when you have learned everything. Maybe you should take notes and turn this into a teen novel. Gotta go, Love you”
Then my sweet Ena hung up on me. I looked at the cell to make sure that she was really gone, then sighed and looked around the room again.
Chapter 34
(Nikoli’s POV)
I didn’t need to stay in the room to hear my beloved pour her heart out to her wolf mate. I knew exactly how she was feeling. My side of the blood bond worked just fine. I experience every single emotion Kalli experiences. I knew exactly how she felt the moment she felt it. I quickly made my way downstairs with Kenyan following closely behind me.
Kenyon pointed a finger towards the front door just milliseconds before Marie’s wolf form knocked down the front door and barreled into my living room. I pointed towards the steps and her wolf likely used its nose to figure out the rest.
I looked over at Kenyon and realized he had a small amused smile on his face. I sighed and crossed my hands over my chest. I could tell it was going to be a long night. I walked over to the door and pushed it back into place. The hinges were completely shot so the best I could hope for was that it stayed up until morning and I could tell Ted my repair man to fix it.
I turned to sit back down when the door flew out of the frame and slammed into me. I pushed the door off and found myself staring at four new wolves. They were less than six feet away from me and had already taken a fighting stance, their lips were pealed back showing their long canine teeth, the hair on their backs and necks stood up on end and their ears were tucked flat back against their heads. These wolves wanted to look like they meant business.
I put my hands up in front of me trying to figure out how I could buy some time to talk before fighting. I had a feeling they were here because of either Kalli or Lucas and I didn’t want to make things more difficult. Not to mention, these wolves really didn’t have a chance against me alone none the less Kenyan who is an ancient. They would likely be dead before they managed to bite either one of us.
I open my mouth with the intention of begging Kenyan not to kill any of them when I watched his face light up like a kid in a candy store then he actually started to laugh at the top of his lungs while pointing towards the four wolves.
I wasn’t sure what to expect next but what happened wasn’t even on the list. Kenyon said while still pointing at the dogs in a demanding voice
“Sit” and low and behold the wolves dropped to a sitting position. He then said
“Roll over” and turned his hand in the air, and again the wolves obeyed and just like that they rolled over.
He was about to give another command when the crap really hit the fan so to speak. Instead of four growling wolves doing cute little dog tricks, we had more than a hundred wolves pouring into the house dozens at a time. They came through the windows and doorways. They flooded the house and immediately attacked.
Kenyan and I were now trying to keep the wolves at bay. I had shouted to him over their growls that I would prefer not to kill too many if possible. He gave an amused chuckle and said he would take that challenge.
We pushed and shoved at the wolves that kept coming at us in waves. They were so desperate to try and take a chunk of our flesh out that they occasionally bit themselves. I threw one off of me and heard something snap. I winced knowing that I had likely broken the wolves back. I tried again to get the wolves to listen to me and stop but one managed to get close enough to sink its teeth into my face. I felt it pull at my jaw bone and decided I’d had enough.
I shouted toward Kenyan that I was done playing around we needed to get these wolves to back off. I decided it was time to be a bit more forceful. I reached out and grabbed one of the original four wolves that were still stupefied sitting at my feet. Kenyan reached down and grabbed one as well. We had them in our hands and were ready to snap their necks when Kalli and Marie came barreling down the steps screaming for us to stop.
The wolves stopped too. Initially I was surprised the wolves had listened to Marie and Kalli, and then we realized it had nothing to do with them. The wolves stopped because we had their alphas necks in our hands. It’s amazing how you can get wolves to negotiate when you are holding their alphas neck.
The next several hours had been tenuous but we eventually came to truce of sorts. In exchange for their alpha’s back the wolves agreed to wait outside until it was determined if Lucas would survive or not.
Interestingly enough, Kenyan had decided to offer all injured wolves some of his blood to see if they too would heal. Many though not all accepted and the amount of healing was unbelievable. I watched as the side of a wolf stitched itself together almost instantaneously. I had to wonder why he was so freely passing his blood around. It seemed too humane and Kenyan wasn’t known for being humane.
Once the house cleared out, and the wolves had settled themselves outside, I walked Kalli upstairs to check on Lucas. It was amazing how much better he looked already. It was clear that he was healing at an unbelievable rate. Kalli noticed how much better the wound looked and excitedly said to me
“Wow, he looks so much better. I was so worried he was going to die. Please tell Kenyan that I really appreciate that he saved his life” then she turned away from me and focused on Lucas.
I couldn’t help but find myself a little jealous so I somewhat childishly stomped from the bedroom. I was tired and really had enough of all the company. I was solitary by nature and was a bit tired of all the company. I decided that I would visit the west wing, have a bite to eat and a little distraction before dealing with my company.
The west wing of the house is where my humans lived. I typically kept six to eight humans in residence when I stayed in this house. I had the house keeper Jill who kept the house clean, her husband Ted who repaired the little odds and ends that broke and six to eight females that I used for feeding and my other physical needs.
Currently I had only five females available since Kenyan had killed Olivia earlier today. I really wished Kenyan wasn’t the elder who responded. Of all the elders he was the least likely to follow any rules. He had little to no compassion for humans or wolves.
I looked around the room at my companions and decided that Rose would do just fine. It had been several weeks since I’d spent time with Rose, and she looked very happy that I had chosen her. I held her hand and walked her into the blue room.
The blue room as I liked to call it was the room I used when I spent time w
ith my human companions. I had never wanted to sully my main house with my feeding and physical needs. I always knew that someday I would meet my beloved and I never wanted her to question if and where I had spent time with my humans before her.
There was a part of me that didn’t want to do anything more than feed from Rose, but another side of me knew my beast was starting to get the best of me. I actually thought if I could release some of my tension with Rose that I would be calmer when dealing with my beloved and her wolf mate.
The moment I finished feeding I realized that some of the hunger I was experiencing wasn’t my own. I tried to ignore my beloved emotions and amuse myself with Rose but it wasn’t working. After only a few minutes, I found myself giving up and leaving even tenser than I’d been when I brought her to the blue room.
I went back downstairs and mentioned to Kenyan that I was having difficulty because my beloved was hungry. I explained how she had been in a full blood lust just a few days ago and how her feelings were so strong that I too had actually gone into a blood lust.
Upon hearing this, Kenyan suggested that we offer a donor to my beloved to feed on. Remembering how she’d shown some signs of jealousy before when we talked of my human donors, I found myself agreeing and grabbing my most attractive companion.
