Diving Into Trouble Page 24

by Shona Husk

Her hips rocked as he found her clit and teased. She lifted onto the balls of her feet, steadying herself by gripping his shoulder. She wanted to come but the edge was out of reach.

Frustration made her grit her teeth, she could do it herself when he was on the other end of the phone, but not when he was here. He drew away. ‘Shower ready?’

She had no idea, she’d gotten rather distracted. He checked the temperature and got in. Then he picked up the soap and beckoned her to follow. His cock jutted forward, waiting for attention.

But instead of picking up where they’d left off, he started washing her, his hands skimming over her skin as if relearning every part of her. She closed her eyes and enjoyed the sensation; the nerves started to leave, so only desire remained. She reached out to touch him, but he lifted her hand and placed it straight on his cock.

‘I’m giving you some time, but I’m good to go.’ He kissed her again and backed her against the wall of the shower.

The cold of the tiles made her gasp, her fingers tightening around his shaft as she stroked. ‘You didn’t take the edge off this morning?’ Some guys did so when they saw the missus it wasn’t all over too fast.

He grinned but didn’t answer. Instead he picked her up. ‘If you want more time, say so now, because I intend on having you against this wall, now.’

She wrapped her legs around him, the head of his cock now pressing against her; one small move and he’d be able to slide in. ‘I want you. I’ve been waiting months for this.’

He pressed in slowly. It was enough for her to come. The climax rippled through her and took her breath away. Her nails dug into his shoulders as he started moving. The water hit his shoulders and trickled down his chest. She claimed his mouth as he thrust into her. All the fear she’d had about what it would be like to see him again was gone. She was happy to be back in his arms.

  ***

Rainy drew her hair back into a bun so it was very neat. Checked her reflection in the slightly foggy bathroom mirror and walked back into the hotel room. They’d spent far too long in the bathroom getting reacquainted and were running out of time to be ready for the dinner.

Not that she really wanted to go to the dinner now, as that would mean sharing Kurt with the rest of the boat. And yet she’d been waiting for this moment since she’d first applied for the Submarine Corps. Her stomach wouldn’t settle and she doubted she’d be able to eat anything.

Kurt was already in his dress uniform. His dolphins pinned on. Her heart gave a little leap. She’d never seen him all dressed up like this and probably wouldn’t ever again. This would probably be the last time he wore it. He finished ironing her pants and handed them to her.

‘You look good.’ She started pulling on her uniform, still warm from the iron. It felt strange and overly formal after months of cams. He smiled and glanced at her. ‘Make the most of it. I’ve got less than two months to go.’

‘I know. I will.’ They should get a whole bunch of people together and celebrate somehow. Tonight though, neither of them planned on staying at the dinner longer than they needed to. She’d be home in two weeks and they could be together, but he was here now and she’d missed him so much that she’d be quite happy to stay in the hotel and order room service for the next couple of days. ‘Looking forward to it?’

They’d talked about it. But some things were different face to face. He was always happy on the phone, talking about what he was doing. Was he still okay with his decision?

‘I’ve applied for some jobs. Just waiting to hear back. I hate the waiting.’ He looked at her. Pain flickered in his gaze. ‘I hated being at home. Waiting.’

A lump formed in her throat. She finished dressing and straightened up her uniform, taking a moment as she worked out what to say. ‘I’ve heard it’s harder.’

While she had work to focus on and the routine of the boat, he’d been at home crossing off the days. This was her job, and she liked it … if he asked her to leave the navy … Surely he wouldn’t?

‘Having done both, now, it is.’

She needed to derail this conversation, fast. She was still enjoying their reunion and she didn’t want it tarnished. ‘I still can’t believe you spoke to Smithy about flying up but not me.’ He’d apparently emailed the COB for details about the Darwin stopover and Smithy hadn’t uttered a word. That man was a vault.

‘I knew the COB would keep a secret while giving me everything I needed to know to surprise you.’ He grabbed her hand and pulled her close. ‘You forgive me?’

‘Yes.’ She smiled. ‘You’re going to be there to see me get my dolphins.’ That was almost as exciting as seeing Kurt again. It had only been confirmed yesterday that the trainees would be getting presented with their dolphins at the dinner.

‘I wouldn’t want to miss it.’ He lowered his lips to hers. ‘I missed you so much, but not being able to miss you would be worse.’ He lifted her hand. ‘Marry me.’

Her eyes widened. He’d come up here to propose? Her heart was beating so loud she was sure she wouldn’t be able to hear the next thing he said. ‘What?’

‘Don’t say no yet. I don’t have a ring or a fancy speech. And I know we haven’t been going out that long. But I want to know that you’ll always come home to me, no matter how long you’re away or where you go.’

Tears filled her eyes. He wasn’t asking her to get out and give up her job. He wanted to marry her knowing it was part of who she was. Of course she wasn’t going to say no. She nodded, not sure she could say yes either. Her throat seemed to have closed.

  ‘Is that a yes?’

‘Yes.’ She’d said yes! She was getting married. That was unplanned and unexpected.

Kurt stood and swept her up into his arms. ‘We can pick the ring when you get home. Make it official then so you can enjoy tonight. It’s your night.’

While she wanted her dolphins, and had been working toward them for over a year, she knew which part of the night she was going to enjoy more and it came after the after party. It would be a private party for her and Kurt as they celebrated their engagement.

‘I’m going to have to ask the Captain for permission.’ It was a formality and she didn’t expect it to be an issue.

  ‘I don’t think he’ll say no.’

‘I can’t believe you asked me without a ring.’

He looked away as if embarrassed. ‘It was kind of unplanned. I can’t imagine you not in my life. I love you.’

‘I love you too.’ What had started as one night of fun had become the best part of her life.

  In the Spotlight

A diva who lives for the spotlight, a sailor deeply in the closet, a love that will change them both

Ripley Malone is returning to Perth in triumph. A principal ballet dancer in a production that has critics raving, he is an unqualified success, and all the small-minded people that made his life hell can kiss his lycra-covered ass. But behind the makeup and the glitter and the costumes, Ripley is beginning to tire, tire of the competition, the drive, the endless parade of meaningless lovers.

For Pierce Lovell, joining the Navy was a way out of rural Victoria, but becoming a submariner comes with its own set of challenges. The close living quarters and long months away are awkward enough without adding any extra tension around his sexuality. The fear is probably in his head, but he isn’t taking any chances with his career. He gets by on anonymous one-night-stands every time they come to shore and keeps his heart well-shielded. But one night with Ripley opens the tantalising possibility of more.

Through a mistake Ripley is injured. He can’t dance. His wings are clipped and he crashes down and hits the earth hard. Pierce knows their affair can’t possibly end in anything but heartache, but he can’t stay away. As Ripley heals and reassesses his life, he is determined not to make the same mistakes again. That means letting someone see the vulnerable side of him. But vulnerability for Pierce could cost him everything.

Jilted professor, Dominic Grayson, reluctantly takes a job teaching an adult-learning summer class. It’s a far cry from the university environment he’s used to, and it’s certainly not as stimulating as his regular job. Until Annie walks in and stimulates him in all the wrong ways. Avoidance seems the best option, but when his sister challenges him to see more than just her long legs and distraction techniques, Dominic can’t refuse.
