She recognized desire now. She was drenched in it.

“That’s it, woman. You like it, don’t ya?” He tangled his hand in her hair and pushed harder into her mouth.

His hand guided her over his shaft. She bobbed up, and he pressed her head down. Before she could swallow, he pulled her right back up to the tip.

He enjoyed a good oral exploration. She heard it in his hungry voice until he took all he could take.

Then he just told her the truth of a man with a most sincere voice. “I have to come.”

Her eyes were fixated on his. She stopped sucking his dick and kissed her way up his belly. The vein she wanted all but spoke to her as it bulged with his life. She didn’t tell him the one thing she feared a confession might destroy—opportunity had a way of bringing death if the act of bleeding love wasn’t performed correctly. In her clan, the elders believed if they followed their instincts, they protected their mortal lovers.

Beth moved her hair over her shoulders and shifted her weight and her hips, as he encouraged her to take her ride. His hips rising and falling gave it away. She slid her pussy over his belly before making a slick and bold move to capture him. She eagerly drew him inside and moaned as his cock crossed over her virgin barriers, rocking her into a quick cradle of sensations like no other.

“Oh Ryan, it’s so painful….” She closed her eyes as she tried to gain some sense of what she felt in that precise moment.

“I know, honey, I know. Give it a minute. Take your time.” He sounded sappy-sweet, but he felt smooth like thick silk, as he delivered one thrust and then another.

At the moment, she didn’t care about their pace, as long as he didn’t leave her. She enjoyed the exquisite feeling of a long-awaited experience, and he shattered all expectations and allowed her to form new ones.

Her body tingled and before she knew what hit her, the orgasm she wanted slammed against her, and she came. Her fangs dropped with desire and she had to take the first taste of blood as her climax rode in for her with the threat of danger looming.

Her gums throbbed as the sharper teeth dropped instinctively, and his eyes throbbed with expectancy, more so than the change.

“That’s it woman, come to me. Come to me now,” he coaxed, and his cock twitched inside of her with each thrust of his hips.

A hungry mouth covered her breasts as his palms gripped her waist. He rose up from the bed to clutch her closer and allow her better access—to his cock and his neck.

“Good damn, you’re tight, all right.” He pounded her pussy faster now, and his hands slipped down to hold her hips. He moved her against him as her fingertips rubbed the vein she needed, the one she decided to own.

Her lips surrendered to temptation. Her teeth followed suit. She marked the place she needed and sucked in his flavor just as the aggressive delivery of his cock taunted her into an explosive new beginning. Thankfully, the climax they rode out together didn’t absorb with a sudden end but instead lifted them up and spiraled out of control. She closed her eyes in recognition when the calm washed over her. Everything happened as it should and they definitely got it right.

  Chapter Eight

“Do you feel differently?” Ryan rubbed the back of her neck .

  “I do.”

“How?” He rolled over to gaze at her, waiting for her to tell him more.

“I’ve never felt like I belonged anywhere but I know I belong here with you.”

  “You do?”

“I do. I’ve loved you for a while but I never expected this to be so beautiful.”

He shifted with uneasiness with her unexpected profession of love.

“Ryan, don’t worry. You don’t have to love me just because you gave me your blood.”

“It was my pleasure.” He smiled down on her and then held his palm to his neck. “It hurts like hell though.”

“I forgot to tell you, it will for a few days.” She moved to the side of the bed in pursuit of her clothes.

“Where do you think you’re going?” He reached for her.

“I’m going to go fishing and I’m going to catch the biggest fish I can find. Then, I’m bringing it back here and hope that you’ll cook me up one of the biggest meals a woman can eat.”

  “You are?”

  “I am.”

“And just like that, you’re mortal?”

“I guess so. I really don’t know. I have hunger pangs and I’ve never felt anything quite so strong.”

  “So you’re hungry?”

“Starving, I’m nearly weak from hunger.”

“But I thought my blood fed you.”

“You fed the vampire, but a mortal woman is a different story.”

He pulled her closer and smacked her ass with a playful smack. “Then let me show you what you’re yearning for most because food is not on my mind.”

Giggles escaped her as his lips claimed hers once more.

“You think you can handle me again?” he asked.

Beth glared at his collar. “You’re pale now.” She teased him by licking his lips slowly as she eyed his neck.

“You ain’t goin’ for the neck thing again are you?”

She climbed on top and rubbed her moist heat over him, tempting him with another round of bliss before she captured his cock inside her walls. “Hell no, now that we have the other out of the way, I’m going for a long-awaited ride.”

“You’ll never hear me complain.” His thighs bunched, and he braced her lower back. While he wanted to let her take the lead and act as his guide, his desire blended with more than simple affection. He saturated her with his lust, maybe even love, and adoration. Then, he did it again and again.

  * * * *

She mentioned a meal but never expected a feast. After the sex lasted for more than daylight hours allowed, she woke up with the inability to walk. She rolled over and looked out over the back of the property and the loneliness suddenly coupled with true hunger.

“Are you going to get up?” He smiled as he watched her from the foot of the bed.

“I didn’t hear you.” She sat straight up and didn’t care when his gaze fell to her chest.

“Don’t tempt me now or I’ll tie you to that bed and keep you there for days. I promise.”

“Tie me to you?” Beth teased. “Which body parts do you want bound together?” She forced herself to stand and made her way over to him.

“Oh I don’t know, maybe our hips would do, but then I’d miss those lips of yours doing things to me that a woman living in the prairie shouldn’t know how to do.”

“I would miss that part too. Your tongue can set a woman on fire.”

“You appreciate a man with some talent in the bed, I guess?”

“I appreciate you.” She took her sweet time dressing, and his eyes never left her.

At times, she didn’t think they’d make it out of the bedroom because his mouth clearly watered with thoughts of bedding her again. His lips were moist, and his tongue instinctively darted in and out, while his hand ran over the visible and amazing male strength bulging in his pants again.

“If you were hungry last night, wait until you see what I have fixed up for your appetite.”

“I know. I’ve been watching you from here.”

  “You have?”

“For a second, anyway and I’ll never tire of it. A man who can cook will never lose his place in a woman’s bed.”

He didn’t seem bothered by her assumption that he would stay. Something she should’ve expected after he took her to bed. He was smart enough to take her at her word and since he had a friend who took up with a vampire, he surely understood he belonged to her now.

He grabbed her by the wrist and led her to the well-prepared meal. In a gentleman’s gesture, he pulled her chair out, and she took her seat.

“Thank you for all of this,” Beth said.

Prepared to perfection, a plate of fruits and hoecakes, fish and potatoes—far more than two people would eat. It only took a mome
nt to notice something strange. “You’re not going to eat?”

  “I’m not hungry.”

“After yesterday, are you kidding me?”

“I said I’m not hungry.” His words were too sharp for her comfort.

That’s when she noticed the major changes in him. The lighter color in the eyes he once possessed were a shiny emerald with tints of red outlining them, and his ashen grey skin turned snow-white as the aroma of food filled the air.

“Oh no.” Barely above a whisper, she let the words of acknowledgement slip.

  “Oh yes.”

“No, Ryan. No. This can’t be happening.” It made perfect sense now—everything. From why he was so agreeable to the way he looked at her with admiration and genuine appreciation.

He reached across the table. “I knew.”

  “You what?”

He grinned. “I figured it out before everything happened so fast. I knew when you loved me and I felt your love, but when you took my blood, I understood it was necessary for you to achieve the life you wanted to experience.”

Horror struck and called out so many emotions that she didn’t know which ones to feel and which ones to avoid—too many came for her all at once. Her heart raced, her palms felt clammy and the lump in her throat was one she couldn’t clear away when she swallowed.

“Then why would you do this?”

“I wanted to set you free. I also wanted to feel the kind of loyalty and love I’d always heard about from those who’ve known a few folks associated with the vampire clans. Now I do.

You said you’d never belonged anywhere before, I haven’t either. Now we have each other, and while I didn’t like the idea at first, at this point, I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

  “Yes, but…”

“Eat, Beth. I want to see you eat, drink, and then I plan to make you a happy mortal woman.”

  “But what about you?”

“I can promise you, I’ve never been happier in all of my life—and now I don’t have to worry about a final resting place. I have everything I’ve ever wanted right here with you.”

A twinkle came into his eyes, and he added something more. “I kind of liked the recreational advantages of another ‘resting’ place I found last night too. Remember?”

“How could I forget?” She took her first real bite of food and truly thought she’d died and gone to heaven. But of course, his words took her back to yet another blissful experience.

“I’ll make sure you never do for as long as we live.”

“Then I like the sound of this arrangement.” She chewed her food slowly and closed her eyes to savor each new flavor.

“You’d better, because rumor has it, I’m going to live forever.”

“Then you’ll need a lot of rest.”

“I didn’t give you my blood for nothing, darlin’ and the way you move your legs, seems I must’ve made a pretty good swap here.” He scooted his chair back a bit and left her at the table long enough to open the front door. “Old Blue needs to go for a walk. Who knows, maybe I’ll go for a ride.”

“I’m counting on several of them.”

“It will always be my pleasure.”

“Then I found the right cowboy.” She scooped up another big bite and winked.

  “And the right vampire.”
