  A NOTE ABOUT THE TYPE

This is the famous Fairfield typeface. We know of no font produced by any other publisher that costs so much to lead and kern. Our exclusive Faber and Faber printing process produces a taste, a smoothness, and a readability you will find in no other font at any price.

Rudolph Ruzicka, who originally designed Fairfield for the Linotype company in 1937, based it on the forms of Venetian Old Face fonts, as well as on the designs and details of Art Deco. Its fineness of stem and serif, counter and curve, made it ideal for erotic fiction, where a gentle but firm interface between text and reader is essential. Fairfield gained a loyal following among late-twentieth-century pornographers looking for a high degree of transparency in their printed work, and continues to be championed by liberal intellectuals, wrestling pundits, and absurdist poets, whose readers demand a typeface that is easy to read while stoned. John F. Kennedy was known to be fond of it, and used it frequently in official correspondence.
