He rocked up and into me, and I let his motion carry me up and down. I began to rock back, slowly at first, then faster and faster. It was his heartbeat and mine thudding together, and I could no longer tell which was which. “Everything,” I said. “All of the feelings echoing through you. I can sense joy and happiness and desire and—”
“And?” Alekk asked.
Yes, it was there.
“Love.”
I spoke the word in an awed hush. It was there, his love for me, and it was glowing inside of both of us.
“I love you,” Alekk said. “And our love will grow every moment we spent together, all of the time, for the rest of our lives.”
My throat choked up and Alekk caressed my cheek tenderly.
“What’s the matter?” he asked.
“All my life, I never thought I would find my mate. And now you’re mine.”
“I always knew that you were out there, Kinaya,” he said. He pressed a kiss to my forehead. “And now you’re mine. I’ll only try to deserve you.”
Tears flooded my eyes and he pulled me into a tight embrace. Above us, snowflakes tumbled through the darkness, but I didn’t feel the chill at all.
I had found my mate.
