Demon Blood: A Demon Soul Prequel (The Caine Brothers) Page 6

by Christine Ashworth

She tilted her head up to him, startled again by the blue eyes in his brown face. But the look in those eyes was loving, and the arms around her secure.

“Baby? You look upset. Are you okay? I tried to sneak into your mind, but you had shut me out.”

“Sorry. Thinking too hard.” Marie-Therese took a steadying breath. “I’m fine, love. When are you going to order pizza?”

Gideon laughed and hugged her close. “You are the prize in my Cracker Jacks. You are the best thing to ever happen to me. You are my mate, my love, and the mother of the children I hope we have.” He drew back from her, framed her face and kissed her. “You are what I have been frightened to dream of, all these years.”

Marie-Therese took Kalisha’s wisdom to heart, though every part of her longed to spill the truth to her mate. She looked up at him, kissed him, and smiled.

“Since we are mated, and so to be married, I rather think we need to order a bed for the master bedroom. Don’t you?”

“Yes.” He steered her inside toward the direction of the kitchen and the phone. “But first, I think we need to order pizza.”

She smiled and hugged him, secure in the knowledge that the pain of their parting was in the far distant future. She had love, and there were children to come. Sons.

Marie-Therese pushed the rest of the sadness away, and let her heart fill again with joy. “Yes, my love. Of course. Pizza. Then a bed?”

Gideon laughed and kissed her soundly. “That works.”
