He grunted, pulled her tighter against him and said, “Get some sleep, princess. Mornin’s gonna be here too soon.”
The morning was going to bring about a busy day. He had to move the rest of his shit out of his room and go talk to Jag about getting another sled.
And have a few words with Zak about his future. Hell, their future.
Epilogue
“Was a reason I asked you to hold off on claiming Diamond,” Zak announced as he sat at the head of the lacquered wood table. The one that sat in the Executive Committee meeting room. The one that had the large DAMC insignia carved into its center by one of the founders, the late brother Bear.
When Slade had approached Z about allowing him to bring the claim at one of the meetings, he’d asked Slade to hold off for a month.
A whole fucking month. Slade had no idea what that was about, Diamond acted like she didn’t know, either. But she was surprisingly patient, which made him wonder if she knew what was up.
Slade eyeballed Z, the gavel laying idle by his hand, then his gaze bounced to the rest of them sitting around the large table. Ace, the treasurer. Jag, Road Captain. Hawk, VP. Dex, club secretary. And then lastly, Diesel, Sergeant at Arms. The enforcer no longer looked at him sideways with suspicion. In fact, he now looked at Slade like he was crazy for wanting to be saddled with Diamond.
He should remind the massive man he had his own spitfire to deal with. Jewel was no better than her sister. So D had no room to judge.
Diesel pushed his chair back and stood with something in his huge paw. Slade hadn’t noticed it earlier when they voted to make Diamond Slade’s ol’ lady. It must have been hidden under the table on his lap.
He held it out and Slade, with another quick glance around the table at everyone’s blank faces, approached and reached for it.
It was a black leather vest. Which made no sense. He already had earned his cut and wore it with pride. And the Warriors hadn’t damaged it enough to warrant getting a new one...
He let it hang from his fingers and turned it around to look at the back. His eyes widened and his lungs emptied. The cut wasn’t for him.
No, it fucking wasn’t.
Holy shit.
The rockers on the back stated “Property of Slade.”
The cut was for Diamond.
His gaze shot up to Diesel. “She gonna wear this?”
Not one of the ol’ ladies belonging to any of the men sitting at that table wore one of those vests. Not Jewel, not Sophie, not Kiki. And Janice only wore hers on club runs.
“Gonna wear it,” Diesel grunted.
He frowned. “How do you know?” Last thing he needed was to give that to Diamond and have her kick him in the damn nuts in front of his brothers. Especially since she was waiting out in the common area of church. It wasn’t like he’d be able to hide it when he went out there.
“Jewelee had it made for ‘er,” D assured him. “Knew she’d want it.”
If anyone would know what Diamond wanted, her sister would. Or he hoped so.
He fisted the vest and nodded. “Ain’t settin’ me up for a hurtin’, right? Like to keep my eyeballs in their damn socket an’ my balls in my sac.”
Laughter rose from around the table.
“Afraid of your ol’ lady?” Diesel asked with a smirk.
Slade cocked a brow. “Are you?” he countered.
Diesel’s smirk quickly disappeared. Yeah, his ol’ lady had him wrapped around that little finger of hers, all right.
Slade snorted and lifted the vest. “If I’m gonna die, gonna say right here an’ now, glad you all are my brothers. Glad I finally found my home. Glad I stumbled into Shadow Valley.”
Fists pounded the table and boots stomped on the floor in agreement.
Slade raised his hand, he wasn’t finished. “An’ I gotta thank you all for agreeing with my idea... Or our idea. Gotta give Diamond credit for it, too. Seems like she wanted it for a while but figured you assholes would say no.”
A couple of the guys chuckled. But Diesel didn’t.
“Probably wouldn’t have agreed if you weren’t in on it, too,” D grumbled.
So Diamond was right. D wouldn’t have wanted to back her idea of opening a gym on her own. But with Slade at her side? The man had no problem with it. None of the brothers around the table did, either. But Slade wasn’t going to tell Diamond that. Fuck no. If any of the men on the Executive Committee were brave enough to, then that was on them. They could risk dealing with her wrath.
The only thing she needed to know was they were going to do what they both loved. She was going to get her gym so she could teach kickboxing and he was going to become a boxing coach. And, of course, the club would get a sweet gym for everyone to work out at... including D’s “Shadows.” Diesel actually almost smiled at that. And that probably ended up being the clincher to all the “yay” votes to fund the new venture and to allow Slade and Diamond to run it. But in the end, Diamond was getting her dream and that would make her happy. Which made him happy.
Today was a good fucking day.
“Got one more thing for ya, brother, but it ain’t in this room,” Z announced, then smacked the gavel onto the table and, as one, everyone rose to their feet and began to file out of the meeting room.
Slade followed them out and noticed not a soul was inside the common area. He had no idea where Diamond went.
They headed toward the back door to the parking lot and he followed, wondering what the fuck was going on since no one was saying a word.
All of them pushed outside into the late afternoon light. Slade inhaled the warm early spring air and just that alone made him antsy to get on a sled and take a long ride with his ol’ lady clinging to his back.
He stepped around Diesel’s massive body and noticed everyone who wasn’t in the meeting standing in a circle. When they noticed the brothers approaching, the small crowd stepped back giving him a better view. The first thing he noticed was Diamond standing near a bike with a big smile on her face.
His heart did a flip and he glanced down at the cut in his hand. Jesus, his life might be over in a matter of minutes. Her gaze dropped to what he was gripping tightly and her smile didn’t falter. That was a good sign.
He approached her and looked down into her beaming face. “Got somethin’ for ya.”
“Yeah?”
He hesitated.
“Are you going to just crush it in your hand or are you going to let me put it on?”
His eyebrows raised as her hand reached out, her fingers wiggling. “D’you know ‘bout this?”
Her lips pressed together and the corners of her eyes crinkled. “Maybe.”
“So you wanted it?”
She snagged the cut from his fingers and slipped it on. It fit her perfectly. “Of course I did. Jewelee had it made for me.”
“Jesus, princess,” he muttered.
She laughed and patted his chest. “It’s all good.”
“Thought I was goin’ to be gutted if I gave that to you. Thought they were settin’ me up.”
Before she could answer, Jag stepped up next to him and waved a hand toward the Harley that Diamond stood in front of. Hell, he’d been so worried about Diamond’s reaction to wearing his cut, that he ignored the beautiful sled that sat in the middle of the parking lot.
She was a beauty and he wondered who owned her. “One of yours?” he asked Diamond’s brother.
Jag nodded. “Ain’t a complete custom but she had good bones an’ can always do more on ‘er later.” He bounced a set of keys in his hand. “Knew you were gonna claim Diamond today. Couldn’t be a better time for this. Can’t have my sister’s old man not have a sled.” He held out the keys to Slade.
Slade stared at Jag’s hand for a moment then looked back up at him. “But you’re still buildin’ your own dream bike.”
Jag had been riding a temporary sled while he built another custom for himself after the Warriors totaled his other one. He must have put his own proj
ect aside to put this bike together for Slade.
He realized right then and there, he’d made the right decision to patch into the DAMC. He finally felt like he belonged somewhere. That he was home.
Jesus. That was enough to make a grown man tear up.
But he didn’t. He kept his shit together. Especially since they were surrounded by every club member and their women. He certainly didn’t need to look like a crying pussy in front of them all.
“Don’t matter,” Jag continued. “Got this one done. Owner couldn’t afford to finish payin’ for it an’ decided to hand it over since it was a complete reconstruction job. Man probably didn’t pay much for the frame, anyhow. Wasn’t much of a loss for him but was for the shop since we invested in all the custom parts an’ shit.”
Clearing the thick in his throat, he said, “Don’t know what to say.”
“How ‘bout a thanks?” Hawk said.
Slade grinned through his emotions. “Thanks. Means a lot.” He grabbed Diamond and dropped his arm around her shoulders, pulling her close. “Gonna take a ride on ‘er later, yeah?”
“Yeah,” she said softly, giving him a look that made his chest get tight.
“Knew ‘bout this?”
She nodded, wrapping an arm around his waist and squeezing. “Can’t be a proper ol’ lady when I have nowhere to sit my ass.”
He gave her a squeeze back. “Yeah,” he agreed, softly.
She looked up at him and jerked her head to the left and whispered, “More surprises.”
He glanced over to the left to where Diesel was standing, texting on his phone. Probably tending to In the Shadows Security business.
Slade’s eyes were drawn to Jewel approaching her old man. They widened when he noticed what she was wearing.
A cut like Diamond’s. But, of course, hers said “Property of Diesel.”
Diamond jerked at him, and steered them closer as Jewel went toe to toe with the man twice her size. She grabbed his phone out of his massive fingers and Diesel’s head jerked and he frowned down at his woman.
“What the fuck, woman?”
“Got something to tell you.”
“Couldn’t wait?” he grunted, his eyes narrowed on her.
“Nope.”
It was clear when he finally noticed what she was wearing. He jerked her around and read the rockers on the back.
“When d’you decide to wear my cut?” Diesel almost shouted.
Slade couldn’t tell if he was happy about it or pissed, which made him smirk, and Diamond chuckled softly next to him. “Just wait for it,” she whispered to him.
“Since this.” Jewel shoved something at Diesel, who had no choice but to accept whatever it was.
As his dark eyes dropped to the object in his hands, his eyes widened and his face turned sheet white. “What the—”
Before he could finish his shocked exclamation, he stumbled back and then tilted precariously forward until he fell hard to his knees on the pavement. Before anyone could catch him he landed on the ground like a fallen tree, passed out cold.
“Holy fuck!” Diamond yelled as everyone rushed over to D in concern.
Then Slade saw what the man still gripped in this fingers so tightly his knuckles where white...
The pee stick from a home pregnancy test and clearly the results showed two lines.
Diamond threw her head back and howled with laughter.
Slade’s only thought was... how the mighty have fallen.
Which brother was next?
He glanced at Diamond and she gave him a wide smile.
Fuck.
