Anthony placed a light kiss on Sienna’s sleeping face and lowered her into the bassinet on his side of the bed. Mariah buried her face against the corded muscles of his chest when he gathered her in his arms, and a comfortable silence was their companion for several minutes.
When Anthony finally spoke, his voice was thick and unsteady. “Thank you.”
Mariah’s lips curved against his chest. “I couldn’t have had her by myself. So, thank you.”
A deep sound rumbled in his sternum. “No.” His fingers traveled up and down her arm. “I mean, thank you for loving and trusting me.”
Mariah tilted her head back until she could see his eyes. “Thank you…for loving me…more than I ever thought possible.”
Anthony bent his head and his lips touched hers like a whisper before the couple closed their eyes for some much-needed rest.
