“What are you saying?”
“Mark wasn’t destined for a long life. He did what he was put on this earth to do and now it’s time for him to go home. I know it isn’t fair. I know it hurts, but things don’t always work out the way we think they will.”
“What do you think he was put on this earth to do, Ten?”
Ten tilted his head. He reached out to cup Ronan’s face in his hands. “He was put on this earth to save your life. You were shot at point-blank range. Your surgeon told me your life was spared by a matter of an inch. A better marksman would have killed you.”
Hearing those words filled Ronan with more gratitude for Mark Abruzzi that he could ever express in mere words. He opened his heart wide. “Thank you, for saving my life and giving me a future, Mark,” Ronan whispered, holding Tennyson tightly.
“Ezra Mark O’Mara,” Tennyson whispered. “Has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?”
Ronan, too overcome with emotion over the thought of them becoming fathers to a future son they would name after Mark, held on to his future even tighter.

When the Union Chapel Sheriff comes to Tennyson and Ronan with a years old cold case he’d like them to look into, the Boston-based duo can’t turn down taking a peek at the case file. Tennyson is easily able to figure out whodunit, but the sheriff is leery to believe in his gift, bringing old prejudices back to life, and leaving Ronan to hunt for physical evidence the killer left behind.
Will Ronan be able to solve the cold case and help Tennyson resolve the decade old feud with his mother? Or will the tornado, with its sights set on the tiny town of Union Chapel, Kansas, make the other questions moot?
