Arliss took his outstretched hand. “I think it would be a great adventure.”

Bo Burnette lives and breathes stories, finds adventures everywhere, and survives mainly on coffee and tea. He has several books with his name on their covers, most notably World War II biography Denver and the Doolittle Raid, middle-grade mystery The Lighthouse Thief, and the short story “Finding Viola.”

His latest novel is The Fiery Arrow, the first in The Reinhold Chronicles, a trilogy of medieval adventure stories. Bo makes his home in the state of Georgia, halfway between the soaring mountains and the rolling sea.

WRITING BOOK IS AN ADVENTURE, AND while I wrote this one faster than I ever have (and probably ever will) write a first draft, it’s taken a lot to get it into this final form. Countless people inspired that initial creative burst, and countless others shaped its continuing evolution.

My parents. Thank you for your support and encouragement. Thank you for staying up until 1 a.m. to proofread early drafts. Thank you, as they say, for everything.

My sisters—especially Kelley, who first suggested I should create a realm whose name began with the letter A. And Kendall, who created the arrow for the scene breaks.

Abigail—your martial arts suggestions for the fight scenes were spot-on.

Linda Yezak, my editor. Even when we don’t agree, you force me to widen my mind and see things from a different perspective.

Chrissy from Damonza—the covers just keep getting better.

Kelsey—the artist behind this book’s two maps. I didn’t think you could outdo your work on The Fiery Arrow, but you proved me wrong. And you’re a half-decent beta reader to boot.

And above all, thank you to Jesus, who sustains me and reminds me that there is a time for everything: a time to write, and a time to edit…and a time to keep writing.
