“He accused Mr. Coffey of threatening to alert the media to Mr. Raines’ ‘true character’ if he continued to pursue an assault charge against you. The lawyer insisted I bring Mr. Coffey in for questioning. But then Mr. Raines got on the phone and told me he just wants the whole thing to go away. He mumbled something about bad publicity and guilty until proven innocent.”
“I…I don’t know what to say,” Cosby responded.
“I do. Congratulations. You can finally put this ugly episode behind you.”
“That’s great news. Thank you.”
“Don’t thank me. Thank karma. And Wesley. Now, I’ve got a dinner date with a beautiful woman. You two have a nice evening.”
“Same to you.”
“Say hello to Kelsey for us,” Monica added.
Jo’s eyes warmed. “I will.” She turned to Cosby, all traces of her softer side suddenly gone. “I expect to see you at Flipper’s poker party.”
“I wouldn’t miss it,” he assured her.
“Good. I’ll be gunning for your ass, Williams.” She whacked him so hard on the shoulder he stumbled back a step. Flashing him a self-satisfied grin, she shut the door behind her.
“She’s kind of scary,” Cosby observed.
“Oh, I don’t know. Some people think a woman who’s strong and in charge is pretty sexy.”
Monica went to the door, locked it, then turned and peeled off her uniform shirt. She tossed it aside and slid off her khaki shorts. Cosby couldn’t take his gaze off her as she sashayed over to him, led him by the front of his T-shirt to his desk chair, and gave him a shove. As soon as his butt hit the seat, she straddled his lap.
“Now.” She nibbled on his earlobe. “Where were we?”
He thumbed her nipples and unhooked the front clasp of her bra.
“Ah, yes.” She shuddered. “Now I remember.”

About Annette Mardis
As a girl, Annette dreamed of being an astronaut, but she stank at science and math and became motion sick riding the bus home from school. So she went with her second choice—newspaper journalist—and stuck with it for more than three decades. After years of ignoring well-meaning people who said, “You should write a book,” she finally did. And then she wrote a few more. When she’s not working, Annette usually has her nose in someone else’s novel or her gaze glued to sports on TV. She has three totally spoiled pets, enjoys being the designated sightseer on her husband’s Harley, and volunteers at Clearwater Marine Aquarium, home of diva dolphins Winter and Hope from the Dolphin Tale films.
