by Jen Silver
With the flurried exchange of “Merry Christmas” and “how lovely to see you again”, and the removal of coats and scarves, Dani managed to pull Camila into the dining room.
“I thought you were in France.”
“Change of plan this year. They didn’t take much persuading. Mum loves the bright lights of Oxford Street and will be first in line for the Boxing Day sales tomorrow while Dad indulges himself with a few pints and binge-watching football.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I need to keep you on your toes. I don’t want you taking me for granted.”
“I would never do that.”
“No?” Camila reached around and placed both hands on Dani’s buttocks, pulling her close. “Would you have waited two weeks for more of this?”
“I would.” Dani gasped as Camila increased the pressure.
“Well, I wouldn’t. Couldn’t. So you’re stuck with me.”
Their lips met and Dani savoured the taste of her lover’s mouth as their tongues danced around each other, her senses inflamed by the movements of Camila’s hands, fire spreading through her belly to her groin.
Camila broke their kiss and whispered, “Do you think they’ll miss us if we go upstairs?”
“No. They’re probably already immersed in baby talk. And dinner won’t be ready for another hour.”
The door opened before they could move apart.
“This is the dining room,” Carl announced, following Mrs Callaghan into the room. “Ah, there you are, Dani. Hope you don’t mind. Just giving Margaret the tour. Has your maid been in this week?”
“Um, yes. Thorough job in preparation for today.” Dani caught his wink and managed not to laugh. She felt a tremor running through Camila’s body.
“It’s a lovely house, Dani. From what I’ve seen so far.”
“Thank you, um, Margaret. Carry on, Carl. I’m going to see if Debs needs a hand with the turkey.”
She left the room with Camila close on her heels. Deborah wasn’t in the kitchen, so Dani turned to embrace her lover again.
“I would have preferred the bedroom. But this will do. I have fond memories of doing it here.”
“I don’t think it’s going to happen now. Too many people around. Anyway, how did you get your parents to come here? I thought they didn’t approve of me.”
“I told them I wasn’t hiding anymore. I love you and want to spend my holiday with you.”
Tears prickled behind Dani’s eyes. This was the first time Camila had uttered the L word. “I love you too.” The words felt right, and seeing the smile taking over Camila’s features, she knew that this time it meant something. All it took was a change in perspective.
