  “Whatever it takes.”

  “I’ll holla.”

  ~

Barron was sick about the shit they were trying to pin on him. Pulling up the video, he saw the beginning of the video when he first walked into the room behind Tyga. The video has a clear shot of him up until right before he got the call and somehow it was edited to go straight to the sexing. Problem is, he didn’t have sex with either one of them let alone both of them in that room. Whoever the genius editor was forgot to delete the timestamp on the tape before they released it. He was for sure in the hospital with Mya but the fact that most people won’t look at that minor detail will incriminate him.

With Mya jumping to conclusions about the bitch Kim and him doing something, he honestly couldn’t blame her. The way it looked was enough to make him look guilty. His conscience and his body had already committed to Mya it’s just his mouth that needed to say the words. Just the thought of losing her is about to drive him mad. He didn’t even realize how much she meant to him until this moment. Since the video is viral he needed to get his name cleared, his career was all he had besides his family. Upon careful review his family knew it wasn’t him at the end so he dodged that bullet of ridicule. The fact remains, who did this in hopes of destroying his life? The guy on the tape pretending to be him had some similar characteristics but for the life of him he couldn’t figure out why they looked familiar.

Now that they have released a statement that they plan to get to the bottom of this cruel invasion of privacy, he could focus on finding Mya. She wasn’t answering her phone at all. In fact it was going straight to voicemail, meaning it wasn’t even turned on. He had a feeling he knew exactly where she was but he just didn’t want to jump to conclusions. Calling Damon was the hardest thing he ever had to do for the second time in a month. They had been cool associates in the game at one time but once he had his insecurities blasted he felt more like an enemy. Damon confirmed that Mya was indeed there and she was held up in the bedroom she had at his house. The fact that she had her own room resting his jealous nerves but he still needed to see her.

  “Barron.”

  “Damon.”

“Come into the den with me. I think we need to have a talk.”

“I agree.” Barron followed Damon into the den where another man about their size sat waiting. From the look on his face he didn’t seem all that friendly.

“Would you like something to drink?”

  “No thank you.”

“Well let me first start off by saying that I have nothing against you personally. If I have showed any sort of animosity towards you I want to apologize. I know it seemed a little fishy when we first found out we have someone in common for different reasons.”

“I have nothing against you either but I can’t help but feel the need to be jealous of the relationship that you two have.” Damon and the mystery guest both chuckled as if they were sharing an inside joke.

“We get that a lot. As a matter of fact we’ve been getting that since we were in high school and too much when we were in college. Please believe me when I say she is not my type at all. I know she’s said this to you many times because she has told me such.”

“Yes she has said that to me on several occasions but I hope you feel where I’m coming from in that same breath.”

“Barron, I want to rest your mind assure that I love Mya strictly as my sister and as the only other woman in my life after my mother passed away when we were in college. She is my heart and I’m overprotective of her in a lot of ways. Normally with all the shit you have going on right now, I would have confronted you about it. Demanding that she not see you again or something. But something deep inside of me is still rooting for you to be a stand-up guy for my girl.”

“I appreciate the vote of confidence. Half of the shit they are saying about me isn’t true at all.”

“I figured it was a logical explanation and I’m not asking because it’s not my business. Just don’t give up on Mya, she’s a good girl but she might give you hell from all this being pent up. Just stick to your guns. You gotta be a little forceful with her at times. I know you know how far to go with that so no extra’s needed.” The men laughed together on that and they shared another look getting serious. “With that being said, I think it’s time I share a little something about myself. This should rest any doubts you have.”

  “Alright go ahead.”

“This is my partner, Tracy Fields.” Damon pointed to the other man in the room. Barron’s mouth formed a perfect ‘O’ from being knocked out with this news.

“Close your mouth Barron before something flies in it.” Tracy joked.

  “So you’re…y’all are…well I’ll be damned.”

“Yes I’m gay. We are together. Have been for a year now. I’ve been gay since high school but I guess you could say on the under in a way.”

“Have you ever been with a woman?” Barron clamped his mouth shut shaking his head. “Shit my bad that was so rude of me to ask.” Damon was already shaking his head to stop him from apologizing.

“No it’s cool. It’s a legit question to ask. Yes I have been with a female before when I lost my virginity and a few after during my time in middle school. I wanted to experience what the fuss was about. I found myself being attracted to guys around the same time but I tried to fit in with other fellow jocks. That’s when Mya and I officially met. I was dared to grab her booty but she wasn’t dying. She hit me so damn hard, I was about to embarrass myself further by crying like a bitch. We became fast friends after that. I denied my attraction to guys until we were in high school.”

“Mya was my very best friend and I was scared shitless at the feelings I was experiencing. I met an older guy that basically confirmed my earlier thoughts. I was so afraid to tell her but one day I just let it spill out. By the time I finished my confession I was full blown sniffling like a little sissy… Shut up, don’t you dare say anything.” He directed the last part to Tracy who held his hands up in surrender with a smirk on his face. “Anyway she just hugged me and whispered she already knew but she was happy I was finally accepting it. Glad that I was done living in denial. Mya has always had my back so I will forever have hers.”

“And I’m new to their relationship but I feel the same way. She welcomed me with open arms when we first met. I will shoot your ass if you mess her over.” Tracy threatened.

“I’m glad she has the both of you to have her back. It just shows me that she does have some real friends even if they are guys. At least I know I can trust you two with my girl.”

“Your girl or your baby’s mother?” Tracy asked.

“Mya is my girl whenever anyone gets through.”

“That’s good to hear but why did you say real friends like something has happened that we don’t know about.”

“Well her ‘so called’ friend Kim came by earlier saying that she was supposed to meet Mya about the baby shower.”

“That bitch ain’t no damn friend more like a leeching associate.” Damon said.

“I know that now. The bitch tried to throw herself at me after I told her she could wait for Mya to get home. I mean down to her dingy ass thong, throw herself at me. Mya walked in at the exact moment I was putting her ass out. From just walking in on the situation, it did look like something foul had happened. I swear to God nothing did.” Barron said seriously. “To be honest I haven’t been able to be with anyone else besides Mya.”

“Well if that ain’t some form of love, I don’t know what is.” Tracy said. “I swear you celeb athletes are so damn blind.”

“Hold up, no one said anything about love.” Barron tried to guard himself clumsily.

“You didn’t have to.” Damon said slyly. “And Tracy, shut up. Ain’t nobody blind just cautious.”

  “Whatever…”

“Do you mind if I go up to see her?”

“Yeah go ahead, second door on your right.”

  “Thanks Damon. Tracy.”

  “Fo
r what?”

“For looking after my girl. Right now I don’t know who I can trust besides my family. I just feel something ain’t right.”

“Well your instincts would be correct because as far as I can tell your boys is some snakes in the grass.” Tracy said.

“How do you know my boys?”

“I met them when Mya and I went to do some of the baby registries. The one guy Tony, Taby, or whatever is definitely not who you think he is. He gave her such a cold shoulder, just like a jealous queen would. Especially when she introduced him to me, he hightailed it out of there. You know what they say, we can spot our own kind. The problem is most women and straight men would never know I’m gay unless they know me. You’ve known Damon for years and never knew.”

“Toby, gay? Nah, I can’t believe that. He goes through hoes like a rat goes through cheese.”

“Come on now, he’s never shown signs of extreme jealousy just to see females all on your jock? Not to mention you trying to form any sorts of relationship with anyone? They may be subtle but they were there, straight up on the under. Be real, have you ever physically seen him get with said hoes or did he just tell you about his trysts?” At Barron’s thoughtful yet confused expression they shook their heads.

“Wow… Barron you got to pay extra careful attention to your surroundings. I’ve known for some time that he was gay but I knew it wasn’t my place to speak on it.” Damon added.

“Well shit. Don’t get me wrong I don’t particularly care which way he gets his rocks off as long as he is loyal to me and knows where I’m swinging my bat. That would explain why he’s so hell bent on me not taking Mya seriously. He and Davey swears that she ain’t shit.”

“Davey, yep that’s the other one I was telling you about Damon. You need to watch out for him Barron and that’s on some real talk type shit. Dude kept giving Mya the once over like he was trying to undress her or some shit. That shit made me very uncomfortable FOR you. Licking his crusty ass lips.”

“Let him tell it she ain’t even his type.”

“Mya told me that these guys have been your friends for a long time but I want you to keep in mind, men can be some catty bitches. Always want a taste of what you have because in a jealous persons mind, you get it all so easy just from your fame. Do you really think he has never taken a nip into some waters that you just vacated?” Damon asked.

“I know he has but those I never cared about.”

“Exactly. Mya is too loyal to ever betray anyone she loves. She will ride for you to the end if you give her a reason to.”

  “Good looking out.”

“No problem. Now go get your girl and makeup.”

  “Cool.”

Barron followed the directions that Damon gave him with a heavy mind. Too many scenarios has been brought to his attention. There wasn’t a doubt in his mind that Davey was behind the setup at the strip club. The person in the video had to be him, who else would he recognize. Why hadn’t he figured this out sooner? All of this mess could have cost him sponsorships which in turn would cost him money. Some heads were about to roll, it was time to get a little payback on these backstabbers. First he had to get his girl back, he knew he needed to commit to her on a grown persons level. His only drawback is that he doesn’t know how she feels about him. In her actions he feels that she loves him but he needed to hear it.

Walking into the room he found Mya laid on her side cradling her stomach. Her laptop was open facing her sleeping form. She had ear-buds in while she slept peacefully. Barron had to admire her beauty despite the evident dried tear stains on her face. Mya was so humbled, fun-loving, and sexy in his eyes which is all that matters. Just laying eyes on her form put his tattered soul at ease but her sad expression unsettled his spirit. Attempting to remove her laptop from the bed, the screen showed what she was working on. The words on the screen successfully stopped him in his tracks and made his heart flutter in his chest. A smile spread across his face but was soon replaced with a scowl of puzzlement. Why hadn’t she confessed to him how she felt? Instead of waking her up, Barron took a seat in the corner of the room to allow her to rest. He needed to figure out what he was going to say and how?

About thirty minutes of thinking went by before Mya started to stir. Without looking around the room, she eased out of the side of the bed opposite of where he sat going towards the bathroom. He sat quietly awaiting her return. They needed to talk and they were going to do just that. The words of the poem slash diary entry was evident of the subject of love but he needed to hear the words come from her mouth in order to fully believe them. He processed the meaning or hidden meaning behind them but if she doesn’t speak them, they will turn into all talk.

“Shit, Barron?” Mya spoke up startled. “What are you doing here?”

  “I came to see you.”

  “Why?”

  “I was worried about you.”

“The baby is fine. I haven’t been experiencing any pains or anything. She’s kicking right now as we speak.”

“Don’t get me wrong, I am happy to hear that my little princess is kicking up a storm. But I said I was worried about you.”

  “Why?”

“You left before I could explain the situation to you.”

“There was nothing to explain. You get your rocks off in different places. I see that now. Kim’s nasty ass was never a friend of mine, the events of today just further let me know how much she thought of me.”

“I only get my rocks off with you.”

“Except for earlier when she stepped her fake ass out of your bedroom. The bedroom you have begged me to sleep in only to lay with another when I’m not available. You were in a towel Barron and she was getting dressed.”

“Nothing happened between us Mya. Even if I did sleep with someone else, why the hell would I do it at home where you could easily walk-in?”

“Uhh, mainly because it’s your house. Not mine. I just live there because I’m having your baby, nothing more. Who are you trying to fool, me or you?” Mya asked with her arms folded across her chest.

“What are you trying to say? Trying to fool who about what?”

“Barron if the condom would have never broke, would we be where we are? Would we have gotten to this point? Would you have pursued me? Wasted this much time with me? I figure the answer is probably a no.” Mya swiped a tear that had slid down her face. Barron was stunned by the mirage of questions thrown at him that he had to fight to find his voice.

“Why don’t you answer those questions for yourself? Instead of assuming you know what my answers would be, take a long dig into your heart and tell me how you feel.”

“The answer is no.” Just that simple word ‘no’ could go in many ways. She didn’t offer any other explanations, just no.

  “That’s it, just no?”

“If it wasn’t for a drunken night at the club and wanting to step out of my prudish ways, we never would have met. We never would have ended up back at my place doing all kinds of scandalous things that resulted in the condom breaking. I never would have ended up pregnant. Meeting you has been like a domino effect.”

“How so?” Barron was scared of what was going to come out of her mouth but he braced himself to hear it anyway.

“Meaning since it’s been publically known that I am pregnant with your baby, I lost my job and the associates I had, even though I don’t really give a damn about them. Losing my job I had to depend on someone else to basically take care of me. My feelings have been hurt more than I can ever recall from the females confronting me about you, females being fake trying to bed you, and the constant tears I have shed. It’s my fault as to my feelings being hurt, I take full responsibility for that. Obviously it was just the pregnancy hormones that make me so sensitive or sharing my body with you was causing me to confuse my feelings. I really don’t know which one it was but I’m tired. I don’t want to hurt anymore.”

“What exactly are you trying to say?”

  “We should stri
ctly be co-parents.”

“Is that what you really want?”

“Yes.” Mya said after only a moment of hesitation. Barron felt a pain in his chest that he had never felt before. Without saying another word he walked out the room, then the house without a backwards glance. So much for talking.

  Chapter sixteen

Since the discussion between Mya and Barron, no other serious conversations has taken place. They had interaction with one another at a bare minimum as if nothing had happened. Mya went back to his home after staying with Damon for two nights. She felt she was more of burden to him being that he was in a new relationship no matter how many times they refuted that statement. Mya refused to discuss what took place in the bedroom with Damon or Tracy, she pretended that nothing was awry. Later when they asked why he left the way he did, she just stated they came to a mutual agreement to be co-parents from now on.

No more talk of relationships and talk of love ever after was going to come from her. They tried to tell her something about their discussion with him but she didn’t want to hear any of it. It was bad enough she had to pretend to not be bothered that she would never have Barron the way she dreamed. When she delivered that one powerful ‘yes’ telling him the biggest lie in history, that she just wanted to be the mother of his child cut deep. So deep that when he walked away without saying anything else, she literally broke down to her knees.

Per her wishes, Barron didn’t try hinting at anything of a passionate nature towards her. In fact he was the perfect gentlemen by not even looking at her in any type of lustful way. Mya figured why would he being that she was as fat as she was being seven months pregnant. Roughly one more month and she would be pushing out the only thing of Barron’s that she would have until the day she took her last breath. Just that thought brought tears to her eyes. The thought of never being with him in an idealistic setting ever again broke her heart in a million pieces.

“Are you alright?” Barron asked out of concern but he made no attempts at comforting her.
