Both Malik and Sarge joined in. The sounds of his rib and jaw breaking gave me a hard on. I was seriously enjoying inflicting pain on his bitch ass. The entire time Detective Grimes kept turning his head. I watched as Tahari walked over to him and brought her gun down on the bridge of his nose, breaking it instantly.
“Your white ass might as well watch that ass whooping he getting because your ass is up next!” Tahari roughly grabbed his head and made him watch. That a girl; I said to myself.
Once we finished whooping Nico’s ass, I was surprised he was still moving.
“What’s up, Ta-Baby? Are you just going to stand there and let them kill me?” Nico said again.
“As a matter of fact, she’s the one who is going to kill you. Come here, Ma’.” I gestured for her to come to me. I pulled her in close and gave her a long hard kiss. “He’s all yours. Make Daddy proud,” I said as I smacked her on the ass.
“Strip his ass. He has to be naked for what I’m about to do to him,” Tahari said as I watched her walk around the chop shop looking for her tools of torture. We followed her instructions and stripped him of his clothes. Tahari returned and she was carrying a big ass bucket of water and the thickest orange extension cord I had ever. I smiled with a wicked ass grin. I knew what she was about to do.
I looked over at Malik and Sarge and they were speechless as they watched Tahari poured the water on Nico’s body waking him up from his semi unconscious state. I pulled a Kush blunt from behind my ear and fired it up and passed it to Sarge.
“I have been waiting to get your ass back for all the shit that you have put me through!” Tahari yelled as she wrapped the cord around her hand a couple of times.
“Aaagh! Aaagh!’ Nico screamed out in pain as Tahari brought the extension cord down on his wet skin. His skin was splitting open and blood was starting to seep out. The pain must have been excruciating because Nico had passed out. Tahari pulled her nine-millimeter from her waist and emptied the clip into Nico’s dome causing his shit to explode. I watched as tears slid down her face. She was stuck just standing there looking at what was left of Nico. I grabbed the gun from Tahari’s hand and kissed her.
“I’m real proud of you baby, go wait in the car for me.” I waited for her to leave out of the back door.
“Okay, muthafucka’! Tell me what the fuck you want, since you’re looking for me.” I gave his ass a right hook that broke his jaw.
“I have been working for someone else. I’m sorry about everything that happened to you and your girlfriend.” His words were barely audible due to his jaw being broke.
“What did Kelis tell you about me and my operation?”
“She never told me anything about you or your operation. All she wanted was to get your girl locked up, so that she could be with you.”
“For some reason I don’t believe you. I’ll give you a chance to save your own life. All I want to know is who have you been working for?” I was getting real impatient because he was taking too long to answer the question.
“You might as well kill me now. I will give you that information. Either way it doesn’t matter, I’m going to be killed anyway.”
“You know what fuck this shit!” Malik yelled and pulled his gun from his waist and shot Grimes between the eyes.
“Damn Malik, I wasn’t finished questioning his ass!”
“He wasn’t about to tell you shit anyway,” Sarge said as he put on a pair of goggles and handed me and Malik a pair of goggles. We all grabbed the chainsaws and started to cut up Grimes and Nico’s bodies. After we called the cleanup crew, we all parted ways.
Once we made it back to Tahari’s house, we both were exhausted. Tahari showered and went straight to bed. Me on the other hand, I was tired and hungry. I made myself a sandwich and that’s when I looked at all the pictures on the living room table. Now I knew what she meant by her parents being still alive. I had no idea that Cassie and Venom were her parents. Especially, since I never saw her pregnant.
She was the same age as Tahari, so something wasn’t right. I knew my mother had to know something about all of this confusion. As I held the pictures in my hand, I stared at Snake and memories of the night I murdered Snake flashed before my eyes. I shook my head trying to block the memory out of my mind.
“Did you know they were my parents?” Tahari asked as she stood behind me.
“Of course not, baby. I knew them as Aunt Cassie and Uncle Venom. Snake is Ta’Jay’s father. As far as I knew, Cassie didn’t even have kids. So, this is a surprise to me, as well.”
“Do you have any idea what happened to them?” Tahari sat on my lap and started to rub the waves in my hair.
“All I know is that Snake’s child molesting ass is dead. Cassie and Venom disappeared and I have never seen them again. The only one that could probably shed some light on this situation would be Peaches. They all were thick as thieves back in the day. Let’s get some sleep. First thing in the morning, we will go see Peaches and see what’s up.”
I grabbed Tahari and we went to bed. It felt great lying under her. I couldn’t sleep because in my mind I knew some shit wasn’t right. Once Tahari was fully asleep, I got up and started reading the numerous letters Cassie had sent to Grandma Lucy. They had never even been opened. She never really divulged any information on their whereabouts. Her main concern was Tahari’s well-being.
In each envelope there was a check for fifty thousand dollars. By the time I counted all of the money, the checks totaled well over twenty million dollars. I made sure to take all of the checks out of the envelopes and put them in her nightstand. She deserved all of that money, plus some. I was still so confused. I just couldn’t understand how they would just up and leave her like that.
The morning couldn’t come fast enough. As soon as we woke up, we got dressed and went to eat breakfast at Denny’s. I could tell she was in deep thought, so I just kept my conversation to a minimum. We had more than enough time to talk once we made it to Peaches’ house.
Once we were finished eating, we headed straight to our destination. As I made my way up to Peaches’ block, I noticed flashing lights from police cars. As I got closer, I noticed DEA agents bringing my mother out in handcuffs and my heart stopped beating for several seconds. I never even stopped; I just kept going. My mother always prepared us for the day that this might happened.
I called Malik and Sarge and had them shut down all operations until further notice. I had to wait it out until I received a call from Peaches letting me know what she was being charged with. I hated that Tahari would have to wait it out to find out what had happened to her parents.
She grabbed my hand as we drove in silence back to her crib. That was the safest place for me right now. I hated that my mother was in Federal custody. However, that was a place that I was not trying to go to anytime soon.
Chapter 22- Peaches
Beginning of the End
It had been a little over month since I was arrested and sent to the Federal Penitentiary for Women. There was so much evidence against me. I wish I knew who the confidential informant could be. Whoever it was had a hard on for me. They knew the whole setup of my operation. The only people who knew that was my kids and I.
There was no way in hell either one of them were snitches. They were raised to take a charge and sit that shit out. Once I was informed that I was being charged with Interstate Drug Trafficking, I took the first deal they offered me. I was about to be sitting in Federal custody for the next five to ten years. In my absence Thug would run the family business.
I had taught him everything he needed to know to be successful. As long as he had his brother and sister there to assist him, they would be just fine. I thanked God everyday for giving me a second chance to be a better mother.
Despite that I am in the drug business, my kids had lived the good life courtesy of it. I really didn’t care how anyone viewed the way that I have raised my kids. Every risk that had taken was worth it and I would do it all over again if meant
that they wouldn’t have to ask a motherfucker in the streets for shit. All the years I have invested in the drug business, had me and my kids set for life.
Today I was being transferred to the facility where I would serve out my sentence. I told my kids that I didn’t want them to come and see me. I wanted them to wait until I was moved, so that our visits would be longer. I was surprised when I was called down for a special visit. I thought it was my lawyer, but then again he had no reason to get in contact with me. His job was done.
As I walked down a long corridor, I finally was ushered into a small room. I entered the room and noticed Thug and Tahari sitting on the opposite side of the table from me.
“Why are you so fucking hard headed, Ka’Jaire? I said no visits.” I didn’t mean to holler or raise my voice, but I was serious when no visitors said.
“Don’t be mad at him, Momma Peaches. I convinced him to come. I really needed to talk to you about my parents.” Tears were welling up in her eyes. I looked at Thug and then back to Tahari.
“I’m sorry, Baby, but I really don’t know anything about your parents.”
“Actually, Ma’, Venom and Cassie are her parents.” I went blind as Tahari held up a picture that brought back happier times in my life. Confusion set in because Cassie told me she had lost the baby. My happy moment went to anger and resentment. For a minute, I forgot that Thug and Tahari were sitting across for me.
“Please, Momma Peaches. All my life I have been told they died in a car accident. I know now that is not the truth. Did you know who I was all along? Is that why you like me so much?” I knew where she was headed with her questioning. My love for her was genuine. It had nothing to do with Cassie and Venom. I knew I had to lay it all out on the table.
“To my knowledge, Cassie didn’t even have any family. She was raised in foster homes her entire life. So, as far as your grandmother goes, I really don’t know how you and her are kin. And I didn’t know that Cassie and Venom were your parents. She never had any kids. She was pregnant once, but told us that she had lost the baby.
We fell in love with two of the biggest drug dealers the Midwest had ever seen. I loved Snake and Cassie loved Venom. Once we all linked up, we took the streets by storm. We were a force to be reckoned with. Cassie and I started trafficking drugs for them. We were sixteen years old wearing the finest clothes and driving the most luxurious cars. I had so much money I didn’t know what to do.
Life couldn’t have been any better. That was until the green-eyed monster stepped in and changed all the plans. Snake was greedy and he wanted everything for himself, but he couldn’t take it without me. Venom trusted me. He is the one that gave me the formula on how to get this money. I would never do anything to hurt him, especially since I was in love with him.” I looked away in shame because I saw the look of disgust Thug gave me.
“Wow! Really, Ma’? You and Venom was messing around.”
“Yes. He is Ta’Jay’s father.”
“You mean to tell me that you let Snake put us through all that bullshit and he’s not even her father.” Thug stood up and walked out of the room and slammed the door behind him. One thing I didn’t do was cry, but knowing that I disappointed my son made me want to cry a river.
“Momma Peaches, I’m so sorry. I should have just let sleeping dogs lie. I’m so busy trying to find out about people who don’t even care about me. I have caused you to reveal secrets from your past.”
“It’s okay baby. I’ve been walking around for too long acting like my shit doesn’t stank. I’m glad it’s all out in the open. I just hope Ta’Jay can forgive me. I want to be the one that tells her. So, tell Thug don’t go running off at the damn mouth.”
“Three minutes, Inmate!” The correctional officer informed us.
“We don’t have much time. I have no idea what happened to Venom or Cassie. The last time I saw them we met up in Miami. I brought them some money and I picked up the shipment for Snake. When I made it back to Chicago, Snake was dead and they were missing and presumed dead. I’m sorry, Ta that’s all that I have.
Before I leave, I need for you to listen and listen really good. If they really are still alive then Thug needs to be careful and stay focused. He is now running their empire. There is going to be hell to pay if they want these streets back. The both of them are ruthless and heartless and will stop at nothing to get what they want.”
Tahari sat and let what I had just said soak in. Sitting here looking at her I couldn’t help but to realize that her and Ta’Jay are the splitting image of Venom. It was crazy that we never noticed the resemblance before.
“Thank you so much for that. Keep your head up, Momma Peaches. I’m going to make sure I write you every week and keep you informed about everything.” Tahari stood up and gave me the biggest hug ever.”
“Take care of my baby, he loves you so much.” With that being said, I was escorted back to my holding pod. I felt as if some of the weight I had been carrying around with me was lifted off of my shoulders. I was so ready to get this sentence started so that I could get this shit over and done with.
6 Months Later
Chapter 22- Tahari
Shattered Happiness
I couldn’t believe today was my wedding day. It’d been a little more than a year since our first encounter. All of the trials and tribulations that we have encountered have made us stronger than ever. He had been everything to me and more. As I stood in front of the full length mirror in my one of a kind Vera Wang wedding gown, I felt like a princess. I wish my grandma could be here to see me marry the man of my dreams.
Thoughts of my mother and father invaded my mind. A lone tear fell from my eyes, but I hurried up and wiped it away. This was a happy occasion and I wasn’t about to fuck up my make-up crying over people who didn’t even want me.
“Hey, Baby. Are you ready to become Mrs. Ka’Jaire Kenneth?” Thug walked into the room and kissed me patiently on the lips.
“We aren’t supposed to see each other before the wedding it’s bad luck?” I tried pushing him away, but he just held me tight and looked into my eyes.
“Fuck that bad luck shit. No matter what, it was fate that brought us together. I love you and you love me and that’s all that matters. We are a force to be reckoned with. Nothing or no one will ever break that bond again. You’re my Bonnie remember that. No matter how far apart we are. I’m always with you in spirit.” He kissed me again on the lips and walked out of my suite. His words sent chills down my spine. It was like he was trying to tell me something, but without actually telling me. I looked at my skin and I had goose bumps all over.
“Come on, Ta. It’s show time,” Ta’Jay said as she came in and grabbed the train to my dress.
“I’m so fucking nervous.”
“Calm down, Sissy. You look so beautiful.” I walked out of the room carrying my bouquet that was filled with lavender lilacs. The doors opened and the chapel wasn’t filled up. Only a small amount of Thug’s extended family and his business associates were in attendance. I grabbed onto Malik and Sarge. I couldn’t decide who I wanted to give me away, so I had to choose both of them.
They were looking so handsome in their all white Tuxedos with the lavender ties, handkerchiefs, and vests to match. As I walked down the aisle towards my future husband, I noticed that he had tears falling from his eyes and that made me cry. My favorite song by Chrisette Michelle A Couple of Forevers played in the background. When I finally made it up to Thug, I wiped the tears from his eyes.
“I love you,” he mouthed to me and I did the same.
For the next five minutes, we exchanged vows and professed our loved for one another .We kissed each other and officially sealed the deal. We jumped the broom and I was Mrs. Ka’Jaire Kenneth.
“Come on, let’s get this party started!” Thug said as he grabbed my hand and we headed outside to the limos to take us to the reception hall.
All of us walked out of the church hand in hand. First, Thug and I exited the church. Se
cond Ta’Jay and Sarge followed by Malik and Barbie. The rest of our family and friends stood outside on the porch steps waiting for us to head outside. As soon as I stepped outside of the church, the sun blinded me. I never saw Khia until she was in my face, but by then it was too late; she had already plunged the butcher knife deep into my stomach. I never even had the chance to react.
“Bitch, did you think I wasn’t coming for that ass! There is no way in hell you will get a happily ever after. You took my happiness, so bitch I’m taking yours!” Khia said as she pulled the knife from my stomach.
At that moment, I saw Sarge and Malik tackle her like a pair of football players. Barbie and Ta’Jay followed suit and started whooping her ass. I grabbed my stomach with my hand and brought it up to my face and it was covered in blood. I felt like I was going to pass out, but Thug caught me before I fell face first onto the pavement.
“Just hold on, Ta. Breathe baby. Help me get her into the limo!” Thug yelled. I could tell by the look in his face; he was scared. I felt myself being lifted into the limo.
“You have blood all over your suit.” I mustered up the courage to say just above a whisper.
“Shhh! Don’t talk, Ma’. Just breathe okay.” As soon as the words left his mouth, I started to drift into unconsciousness, but the sounds of gunfire hitting the limo kind of jolted me from my semi unconscious state. I watched in horror as Thug, Malik, and Sarge’s bodies were riddled with bullets. I wanted to reach out and try to help them, but I was in so much pain and I was losing blood by the pint.
Instantly the doors swung open and a pair of strong arms pulled me out. I was being carried in the person’s arms with my head resting on his shoulder. I looked up into a familiar face, but it had aged somewhat, but still looked just as handsome in person. “Could it really be him? I thought to myself.
