“So, how did it go at work?”

Savannah’s voice tore Alexis from her depressing thoughts. She turned to look at her best friend, forcing a cheerful expression. “The usual. He got me upset and I ran off crying like a little girl.”

“Hey, women cry, too. He treated you like garbage, Alexis. If it had been me, I would have quit the second I found out. I don’t see how you can still work with the man.”

Alexis turned away, not wanting to meet her friend’s gaze. She knew she shouldn’t still work for Bryan once finding out he was married, but she was in too deep. “It’s getting harder. I told him I wanted my vacation. He said to start it tomorrow, so I’m glad he didn’t put up a fight.”

“It would have taken some nerve to do that...God, if a man did that shit to me, I would kick him in the balls. Then he wouldn’t ever be able to do this to another woman.”

Alexis smiled at her colorful comment. “Well, I just hope that I can get over this…over him. Savannah, I think I was in love with him.”

“Now don’t start that again. You were not in love with him. You were in lust with him. Big difference.”

  “Well, it hurts the same.”

“Yeah, but it’s easier to get over. You were lucky, actually. Those kinds of relationships don’t last anyway. Now don’t look at me like that, Alexis. I’m right and you know it. Did the two of you ever talk…really talk. Did he care if a thought went through that pretty head of yours?”

She looked up at the ceiling. “No, we didn’t talk. All there was was...sex. God, it just makes me feel so cheap to admit that.” She closed her eyes as she remembered how great that sex had been, sighing at the thought of it.

“Admitting it will help you get over it.”

Nodding, Alexis looked down at her meal. She started pushing the food around on the plate.

“Don’t play with it, eat it. Now you don’t want to start your vacation off in the hospital do you? If you try to starve yourself because of this, that is exactly where you will be.”

Gritting her teeth, Alexis grated. “God, sometimes I confuse you with my mother.” At Savannah’s haughty look, Alexis laughed. The mood lightened, but Alexis still felt pretty low.

After dinner, she said good-bye to Savannah and got in her car. In her black mood she forgot to fasten her seatbelt. As she drove, she let her mind wander to her last encounter with Bryan. He had been in her bed, since she was never invited to his home. Of course, she knew why now but hadn’t even suspected he was married then.

He had used his key to get in, and she awoke to him peeling her panties down her legs. The next thing she knew, his face was between her spread thighs. She quivered at the memory of that hot mouth on her pussy, sucking and licking her clit until she screamed out in pleasure. Yelling out his name as she came always excited him. Bryan loved eating her out, so she screamed out his name quite often. She had no doubt all her neighbors knew the name of her lover.

When she was halfway home, Alexis didn’t even see the car running the stoplight. She didn’t see it until the screech of brakes brought her out of her daze. She glanced up just in time to see it crash into the passenger’s side of her car, and she flew across the front seat. As her head met glass, everything went black.

She felt as if she were walking through fog and couldn’t see one foot in front of her face. She just stumbled along. Voices came at her from all around her, and she glanced to her left and then her right. They seemed both familiar and unfamiliar. This didn’t make sense and yet it didn’t worry her, so she kept walking.

All of a sudden she realized she wasn’t walking; hadn’t been walking. She couldn’t feel anything beneath her feet. Bending her knees, she leaned down to touch the ground. Her hand felt nothing, and she began to fall. She screamed but no sound came out. The fog cleared to nothingness.

Opening her eyes slowly, she hoped that the darkness had gone away, and the light nearly blinded her. She leaned against something and turned around to see her car. Beyond her car was another car, and the two cars were almost one. Alexis slowly walked around to where the two cars were joined. It was a mess, and she realized it would cost a fortune to fix.

The fact that she had insurance didn’t enter her mind as she leaned to look inside her car, surprised to see a woman in it. She was in an unnatural position, and there was blood on the cracked window above her head. Alexis wished that she could see her face. She tried to open the door but then remembered the other car. She ran to the other side and tried to open the door, but it wouldn’t give. She felt for her keys, but she couldn’t find them. She looked in the car again to see them in the ignition. Nothing made any sense.

When she looked around, the place was mulling with people who hadn’t been there before. She looked back at her car. The passenger door had been torn off and the woman was gone. What was going on? Alexis had trouble breathing. Everything was turning black again. She could no longer feel the ground beneath her as she floated toward the sky. As she rose, she felt better.

“Alexis! God, don’t go. Please come back.”

Who said that? Alexis was becoming frightened. The darkness now scared her. She wanted to scream but couldn’t. Abruptly, someone pulled her into a tight embrace. From the strength in the arms and the rigid chest, she knew it was a man. Was it Bryan? She really didn’t care who it was. She felt safe in these arms and never wanted to let go.

She vaguely heard him saying something. His voice was very comforting. It was an unfamiliar voice, so she knew it wasn’t Bryan. She brought her head away from his chest to look up at his face. He glanced down at her with such a warm smile that mesmerized Alexis. This guy was gorgeous. He had light brown hair and dark blue eyes. Those eyes intrigued her. She felt that if she looked long enough and deep enough, that she could see straight into his soul. She returned the smiled.

  “Do I know you?”

“You do now. I’m pleased to meet you, Lexie.”

No one called her Lexie, but she kind of liked it. Searching her mind for his name, she couldn’t come up with it. She didn’t even know how he knew her.

“What’s your name?” His name popped into her mind right as he said it.

“Glenn...That’s a nasty bump you have there.”

“Huh?” She reached up to her forehead and winced at the pain. “Now how did that happen?”

  “You don’t remember?”

“No.” She really didn’t care at that moment. He stared at her with those incredible eyes, and she stared right back. Although she didn’t know him, it seemed perfectly natural for them to kiss. And that is exactly what they did.

Alexis didn’t want the kiss to end. Where had he been all her life? Was she already in love with this man? If she was, it didn’t really surprise her. She felt as if she were meant to love him. Everything told her that she knew him, but she couldn’t remember ever meeting him. She felt certain that if she had, she would remember. How could she forget meeting a man like this? He was almost a foot taller than her height of 5’4”. He had broad shoulders, strong arms, a powerful chest, narrow waist and hips, and long powerful legs. She could only hope his personality matched the rest of him.

Suddenly becoming aware of their surroundings, she noticed how people stared at them strangely as they passed by. She realized they stood on a street corner and stepped away from Glenn.

  “How did I get here?”

“I don’t know. You were crossing
the street. I guess you didn’t see the car coming, because you just kept on walking. I reached out and grabbed your hand and pulled you back.”

“Cross the street? I don’t remember trying to cross any street. How did you know my name?”

“It just popped into my head,” he responded with a shrug

“Yeah, so did yours, but why did you call me Lexie? That is a nickname that no one has ever called me.”

  “I don’t know.”

“What is this? Did we know each other in a past life or what? This is really freaky. I feel as if I have known you all my life...That is such a corny phrase, but it’s true.”

Suddenly, she remembered the accident. Where was her car? She looked back at Glenn.

“Was there an accident around here? Maybe that’s it. Maybe I stumbled away and was walking around in a daze.”

“I don’t know of any accident. You must have walked quite a distance. I didn’t see you before you tried to walk across the street.”

“Do you feel the same way that I do? Why did you kiss me?”

“It just felt like the right thing to do. I can’t deny that I feel like I know you. It’s strange.” His fingers lightly caressed her forehead. “Does it hurt?”

Her eyes closed at his touch, and his question didn’t register at first. She then remembered the bump. Her hand flew to his fingers and pressed against the tender flesh above her eyebrow. “Not anymore. That’s strange.”

His fingers intertwined with hers as his other hand gently massaged her scalp. “Does it hurt anywhere else?”

Not wanting to speak, she merely shook her head, keeping her gaze locked on his face. Her lips twitched into a smile. “I feel as if I’m being examined.”

He returned her smile. “Occupational hazard I’m afraid. I’m a doctor, and I think you need to be examined.”

“Gorgeous and a doctor? Where have you been all my life?” Her thought slipped out before she could stop it, and her eyes widened in surprise. She needed to change the subject. “Which field? Gynecology?”

His laughter surprised her. “No, I’m a trauma surgeon.”

She looked down as his fingers began to massage the palm of the hand he still held. The tiny strokes sent surges of pleasure up her arm and through her body. Her knees shook, as her breathing grew shallow. “What’s a trauma surgeon?”

The hand that had been massaging her scalp moved to the back of her neck, where he continued the massage. “I work in the ER and care for those patients who need me the most.”

His skillful fingers on her skin were too much for her as she lost the ability to stand. Glenn’s arm caught her around the waist and held her up against him. Something nudged her ass, forcing her attention away from the arousing man in front of her. Her gaze went from the dumpster to the dark brick walls, and she wondered how they got into an alley. Her fingers explored the area behind her to discover a crate. She tightened her hold on the edge as he nudged between her thighs.

“What’s happening?” Her voice was barely recognizable.

“I don’t know. Once I start touching you, I can’t seem to stop. Do you want me to?”

Her instinct was to answer right away, telling him that he was going too fast, but she couldn’t. As his fingers continued stroking and massaging her, she realized she wanted him to touch her. In fact she wanted his fingers on her naked body, not just her clothes. She finally shook her head, unable to speak. As she looked up, he licked his lips. That’s all it took for her to reach up and pull his head down to hers.

Their lips met in an explosion of passion, their tongues meeting and tasting. She inhaled his musky scent and recognized it as if from a dream. Was that what it was? Could it all be a dream? If so, there was nothing to feel guilty about. She could fuck a stranger in her dream and be able to wake up and not ever worry about it again.

As Glenn’s hard cock ground against her core, she might as well have been naked. The intensity of the contact took her breath away, and she realized she could never walk away unaffected by his touch. She would remember it for the rest of her life.

She reached for his zipper, only slightly surprised to feel the silky skin of his dick against her fingers. He hadn’t wasted any time freeing his rigid erection from his pants, and she smiled. “I need you,” she mumbled against his mouth, lightly stroking his cock.

His hand crept up her thigh, finding her panties and ripping them from her hips. His fingers then found the thatch of hair between her thighs, slipping between the curls to stroke her pussy. She shuddered against him, sighing as his thumb found her clit.

  “You’re so wet.”

His lust filled whisper and hot breath alone nearly made her come, and she moaned. “Please…” She couldn’t finish the request, not entirely sure how to word it. He seemed to know what she wanted, as he pressed her against the crate and spread her legs wider, lifting one to place a foot on the crate beside her. Her other foot looped around the back of his knee, and she held her breath in expectation.

He kissed her hard, sucking her tongue into his mouth, and then plunged into her body. As his cock impaled her, she cried out in pleasure and pain, but his mouth muffled the sound. He tightened his hold on her and withdrew to plunge again. They were a perfect fit, her pussy stretching to accommodate him, tightening along the curve of his long dick.

Wanting to feel him deeper, she grasped the bent knee beside her and pulled it toward her, spreading herself more. He helped by wrapping his arms around her, banging his pelvis against hers. Her head hit the brick wall behind her, but she ignored the pain as her back arched, enjoying the feel of his throbbing cock deep within her.

At that moment, she didn’t care about anything else. Thoughts of her boss flew away along with the car crash. Nothing else mattered but the man fucking her. Her eyes opened and locked with his, and she could tell when he came. Her orgasm hit her suddenly, and she cried out. The pleasure coursed through her, and her nails dug into his back. He gave a few more shallow thrusts before burying himself to the hilt inside her, the head of his cock reaching her womb.

Her foot slid off the edge of the crate to hang limply beside it as Glenn’s head rested between her breasts. Neither could speak at first, since both had to catch their breaths. Lexie took a few more deep breaths and then cleared her throat.

“We’ll have to do this in a bed next time.”

He pulled back slowly and smiled at her. He nodded but then frowned. “Lexie, come back to me.”

Her brows knit in confusion. “What do you mean? I’m right here.”

  “Don’t go, please come back.”

“Glenn, I’m right here,” she repeated, becoming worried.

He stepped away and held out his arms toward her. “Lexie! God, don’t go. Please come back.”

She sat upright on the crate and closed her thighs, pulling her skirt down. It was then she remembered hearing someone saying those exact same words before meeting Glenn. She then realized it had been his voice. She shook her head, suddenly very afraid. “What’s going on?”

The light blinded her, and she screamed. Closing her eyes, she covered them with her hands.

“It’s OK, Lexie, you’re alright now.”

He gently moved her hands away from her face, but she couldn’t look into the bright light. It was suddenly moved away, and she stared up at a white ceiling. Her mouth felt like it was full of cotton balls, and she choked. The room slowly went dark.

Lexie opened her eyes and looked around the hospital room. An IV beside the bed led to a needle in her left hand. She stared at it for a moment before touching it with a finger from her right hand. She then reached up to feel the bump in her forehead, wincing at the pain. It was all real.

  “How are you feeling?”

She started; not realizing someone else was in the room. Her gaze moved to a man wearing a white lab coat, but she couldn’t focus on him at first.

“Like I was hit by a truck. What happened? Where am I?” She tried to lick her l
ips, but her tongue was dry. The man handed her a cup, and she drank what was offered. “Can I have more?” There couldn’t have been more than an ounce of water.

“In a bit. You’re in the hospital, Lexie. You were involved in a car crash. Do you remember anything?” He moved to sit beside her, and her eyes widened as she focused on his face.

  “Glenn?”

Confusion crossed his chiseled features before he smiled. “How did you know my name?”

“Why did you call me Lexie?”

“I’m sorry, I just thought Alexis was so formal. I’m Dr. Monroe. I was the surgeon on call when you were brought in last night.” He paused to study her face. “Is there anyone you’d like me to call?”

She sucked in a shaky breath. Her memory of fucking him was so fresh that she could still feel him, but it hadn’t been real. How could she know his name before meeting him?

“Lexie’s fine, and I hope you don’t mind if I call you Glenn?”

“Not at all.” He placed his fingers on her wrist to check her heartbeat, which sped up as soon as he touched her.

Lexie! God, don’t go. Please come back.

His words echoed in her mind, and she clasped her other hand over his. He looked up at her in surprise.

“You saved my life, didn’t you?”

He shrugged and tried to look indifferent. “That’s my job.”

Shaking her head, she tightened her grip on his hand. “I’m not talking about that. You called me back.” Tears filled her eyes. “You reached out to me and pulled me back.”

He looked stunned. “You can’t possibly know that.” Pulling his hand from her tight grip, he walked to the foot of the bed and rubbed his hands down his face. He dropped his hands and stared out the window. “I never get involved. Staying detached makes me a great surgeon, but my heart stopped when you were brought in.”

She wanted to interrupt but kept her mouth shut, watching him walk toward the window blinds. Even though he seemed to be staring outside, she could sense that wasn’t what he saw.
