The next afternoon, Marissa stood in the room, waiting for her brother to tell her she could go downstairs at the Rose Manor. It was the same place Isandro got married.
Someone knocked. Arianna answered the door and ushered Isandro in. He walked to Marissa and took her in his arms. “You’re gorgeous, Sis. You ready to get hitched?”
She smacked his chest. “Yeah, I’m ready to get married. Behave.”
He chuckled. “Metcalf’s ready. Time to head down.”
She took a deep breath and started for the door.
Isandro caught her hand, pulling her to a stop. Arianna smiled as she slipped through the door. “Hey, I wanted to thank you again. For everything, Marissa.”
She nudged his shoulder. “Yeah, you too, now knock off the mushy shit. No ruining my makeup.” She winked.
Her brother pulled her into a hug. “Just telling you like it is.”
She squeezed him back and pulled him to the stairs. “I’m ready.”
Marissa watched as her bridal party made their way outside and down the aisle. It was a beautiful California day. The perfect day to start her future.
Arianna squeezed her shoulder. “See you down there, Sis.” She walked out the door with Isandro, leaving Marissa there.
Enrique and Estevan joined her, each taking an arm. “I’m so glad you’re doing this,” Marissa told them.
“Yeah, well, we couldn’t let you walk down alone,” Enrique teased.
She smiled. “Let’s get out there.”
The music started, and they walked down the aisle. As soon as she came around the corner, her eyes locked on Dave’s. A smile burst across his face, probably matching her own.
Her whole life had finally settled onto the perfect path. Everything passed in a blur when Dave took her hands.
The pastor announced Dave could kiss the bride and everything melted away. His lips connected with hers. Then he whispered in her ear, “Love you forever, Marissa.”
“Love you too.” She gulped and whispered, “Hope you’re ready. We’re having twins.”
He leaned back, his eyes wide, then his grin came back full force. “Twins?” he whispered, sweeping her off her feet and spinning her around. “Ashton, you’re going to have two brothers or sisters.”
Dave set her down, and Ashton hugged her tight. “I can’t wait to be a brother.”
She hugged Ashton to her.
“Our family,” Dave whispered.
