“The natives say that she was queen of the forest demons,” the Reverend Graves said learnedly. “Hence the colour no doubt. They say she was captured and restored to her tribe to persuade them to cease harassing the farmers who were clearing this area. She is supposed to have led the demons farther into the mountains, many years ago!”
